Messi in Miami

Oh he’d trash me up to 400m. 800m would be questionable.

But Zero chance that he beats me over 3km. I think that the mile or 1500m is the point that I’d start beating him out of sight.

The fella is 6 and a half feet and built like a house. They’re not built for endurance. At all.

Yeah, I think most basketball players are way too big to have great endurance at an Olympic sport.
Plus heavier/bigger body = slower movement

Short footballers also tend to have a better center of gravity, the taller you are the worse the center of gravity will be for sports like Football, which is played using the feet. Probably the only scenario where being a short man it's not negative hahaha.

Beckham struck gold with Messi, imagine if Suarez's deal gone through, every match would be much more goal galore for and against them. Their defence is that atrociuos.

I read somewhere he made like half a billion just from the act of signing him, in club valuation. That's just going up by the day with how well he's doing there.

I watch the Miami highlights when they turn up on youtube. Its just ridiculous that every time there's going to be something special from Messi, literally every game.

I'll take LeBron.

What's your fastest 5k time? I think peak LeBron could do sub-17.

The MLS makes Messi look like 20 again
I'm happy for him that he found his happiness after 2 miserable years in Paris.

I tried to Google his xg for miami but no luck. Anyone able to procure it?

Pretty crazy that a past it (by his standards) Messi has 10 goals in 7 games. I wonder what a peak Messi would have done in the MLS. I bet he would have 20 goals already.

Dunno if its crazy, its more he literally joined the worst team in the MLS and has already won them their 1st ever trophy. Only 1 assist though. By Messi standards that's a bit off. Of course I doubt Messi gets all that much of the ball and his supporting cast up front must be pretty shite(by MLS standards(and more shite by european standards))

One thing I have to credit to, is that the crowd for that cup final was fantastic compared to what I was expecting of North American crowds. Cool to see. They were so into it.

Football crowds are pretty good here, at least the games I have been to.

He's just doing what he's done his whole career tbh, with the exception of those two years. Maybe PSG really was the problem, not his legs.

Wilt Chamberlain would beat you at any Olympic event.

He was average in his 1st season. In his 2nd he was pretty good. Just remember Messi has always considered himself a nr. 10. He seemed very content to assist Mpabbe and let him be the star.

Well he's never actually trained to be a runner.... so probably not. Not to say he couldn't, because he absolutely could, given his ultra elite athletic mentality and ability... but you'd like struggle to pinpoint a version of LeBron to date and drop him in your local parkrun and he'll go sub 17, almost zero chance.

Like I said, give him a reason to do it, which basically doesn't exist in running for ultra rich celebs say unlike Golf, and he could do it with relative ease in a very quick training window. But not without that specific training window.

Less posts about whether caftards nerds could beat legendary athletes in a sprint please.

Yeah apparently they hadn't won in 1 and a half months, winless in 11. He immediately drags the worst team in the league to their first trophy ever, by leading them to 7 consecutive wins en route to becoming the most decorated player ever  Leapfrogging Maradona on the all time free kick list with the two he scored recently is another highlight.

I would contest that your Tagline be changed to “can beat Lebron James over middle distances”

Is the MLS too easy for him? Every time i see my youtube feeds, there are highlights and clips of him scoring goals for his new team

No its rigged/scripted.

We'll have a better idea when the MLS starts. But yeah, at the moment it looks like he's playing against children. Flashes of when he was tearing the best teams in Europe apart, week in week out. Pretty damn good flashes, if you ask me and his goal in the final was a thing of beauty, MLS or not.

He is the best ever, but even he can't fight nature. In his last years at barca he started to lose the ball way more often than he used to. I didn't follow him in Paris, but in his last years with us he was noticeably slower. And he never ran much without the ball in the first place, but he reduced that part to nearly zero. The MLS level definitely helps him showing his skills again, where maybe a good european defender would have stopped him simply because of his declining speed. And I don't mean that in a negative way. After watching him for 15 years at barca and ignoring his PSG time, I'm glad he plays in a team I'm willing to watch again and even better if he plays like he does now. The time will come when he will end his career, so let us enjoy him while we can.

The biggest surprise so far for me is how well Busquets has played. Yes, he’s one of the more press resistant players of his generation, but so was Pirlo and he looked way off the pace during his time in New York.

Xavi begged Sergio to stay at least another season. He is still perfectly able to play in europe, so it doesn't surprise me at all.

Wouldn't surprise anyone who watched him last year. The guy would have done a splendid job for most clubs in Europe, United included.

When did they sign Garnacho?!

I lumped on him to be top scorer between 20/1 to 40/1, it’s now down to 4.75 with Mukhtar on a 13 goal head start so should be an interesting 12 games!

Allen Iverson ran a 5 minute mile the first day of training camp and he was notoriously lazy. Curious have you even played basketball?

Dude is playing Fifa on easy mode. He is still way too good for that league.

C'mon now. La Liga and Champions League were too easy for him too.

The only place we can feasibly say he struggled was International competition, but not really there either. Two world cup finals and one victory.

Football has been too easy for Messi his entire life and we are lucky as fans to witness it in our lifetime.

I agree here, I think any semi serious runner would beat him once you get to 800m, 400m I think would be close as well - he is 38 after all, he must weigh 17/18 stone. Assuming you run at least a few times a week, you should beat him over longer distances.

I’ve ran sub 17. So there’s that. It’s a decent milestone for a club runner but even that’s not super quick.

Never in a million years is any version of LeBron James running a 16:xx 5k though.

Unsure why people are taking this as some affront to one of the greatest basketball players of all time. I’m sure he’d admit it and not give a Fcuk about doing so. Y’all catch feelings over some weird shit.

Athletes in specificity shocker.

You’ve picked one the shortest, lightest and fittest elite NBA players of all time. So that’s not surprising at all. Also one of my favourite players of all time.

AI had a frame that probably could have ran a sub 4 minute mile had he trained to be a runner and not a basketball god. He’d have been under 60kg and emaciated but probably had it in him.
