MERGED - The 2010/2011 ASHES tour thread...all Ashes related chat here please!

Perhaps we did bat too long. Surely the England camp knew about the weather.

Imagine if we'd had 50 less runs on the board & they'd had an extra 40 or so mins to bat, scores would be close to level by now. If they batted until mid/late afternoon, we might not have the time to chase down the runs.

At least this way, we still have a reasonable cushion, they could bat until mid/late afternoon & we'd still have the chance of a run chase.

Factor in the weather & I would say Strauss got it about right...

According to Sky, there is speculation that Broad for England and Katich for Australia could both be out for the rest of the series. A big blow for both, but particularly the Aussies, I would have thought.

We've just seen the affected area on Broad's stomach - and it looks as if someone has squeezed a squash ball into his side. It's a huge purple circle and it looks painful. The BBC's Simon Hughes spoke to Broad this morning and the fast bowler says he is set to fly home and could spend up to 10 weeks on the sidelines, which also puts his World Cup campaign in jeopardy. However, England have plenty of cover - take your pick from Ajmal Shahzad, Tim Bresnan or Chris Tremlett. But Broad's loss is going to be huge.

At least we have a good backup range of quicks. Very unfortunate for broad though - i think he's bowled far better in this series than his figures would suggest, been very economical.

If katich is out then i guess that might be the end for him? That's if his replacement does well - the aussies have to lower the teams average age at somepoint, probs sooner rather than later.

Awful news, Quickest of our bowlers and the one man who can consistently cause the likes of Clarke and Ponting problems with the bouncer, don't fancy Bresnan at all on these wickets hes fodder at times, Shazhad is a lesser version of Anderson and doesn't offer much without swing, Tremlett is probably the best bet as hes most similar to Broad in style.

Weakens the batting but if you're only playing four bowlers then the best four have to be selected.

The 7 batsmen we have right now should be good enough to get the runs we need. Especially the kind of form each of them have been in.

Which is why i have a feeling we'll opt for Bresnan, hes the one of the back up 3 whos featured most recently, hes also a very decent batter at number 8 something that wont be ignored when replacing our number 8 effectively.

Unfortunately i also think hes the weakest bowler of the back up 3 we have.

So you're going to tell me, that an inform Katich, Ponting, Hussey and Clarke are not some of the best batsmen in the world :wenger: Watson and Haddin are also very very good batsmen although not to the standard of the other four. North is just pure shit.

you said minus North your batting line up was the best in the world not among the best in the world.

I agree on form your batting line up is there or there abouts but is certainly not the best as you put it,in my opinion England are better at the moment and by a fair margin.

Hot spot showing Hussey edged it, lucky break for Australia.

Weird. The last delivery produced the biggest turn of the day and England take the new ball.

Pretty high humidity today I think they're going to look for Anderson and Finn to get some swing going.

Broad out for the tour is a blow, but atleast the reserve bowlers have the warm-up game before the next test to get ready. They should go with Tremlett as he's a better bowler than Bresnan, but I think Bresnan's ability to bat as well as bowl might give him a slight advantage.

Batting looks easy this morning...

 you jinxed it!! Good delivery, poor shot and a comfortable catch. Haddin is the last recognised batsman for England to contend with.

Another wicket, it's the big wicket of Haddin. 4 more to go....
