MEN say United considering selling Rojo and replacing him with Martins Indi

We already have Phil Jones as a back up to Smalling and Blind I'd replace Rojo with someone (Hummels would be my choice) that would/should come in and be first choice along with Smalling. Then as back up we'd have Blind and Jones then young up coming in McNair.

Is there still talk about this in the press? In my times watching Martins Indy, I just don't see what he offers that Rojo already doesn't. Some people have said that Rojo has been overrated but IMO I think he is being underrated by fans. Considering that he played his first season as a LB-CB in the Premier League, I think he did quite well.

Well, LvG seems to like him anyway:

Louis van Gaal says Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has the potential to be a “very good player” for the club.

Van Gaal and Rojo have not always enjoyed the best of relationships at Old Trafford, with the Argentina defender missing the tour of the United States after failing to renew his passport before angering his manager again for not warning the United medical staff about an injury.

Rojo, who signed for United from Sporting Lisbon for £16million last summer, has only made two Premier League starts, but he started Saturday’s 3-0 win over Everton and Van Gaal is happy with the defenders progress.

“I didn’t know that he played for Spartak but I have seen him in the World Cup in Brazil and he did it very well and he played also for Sporting Lisbon. There I have analysed him,” said Van Gaal.

“What I like is that he is physically a very strong guy, a good header and his pass is fast.

“That we need, always. There is the potential in him to be a very good player for Manchester United.”

Wayne Rooney, meanwhile, said he’s expecting Rojo to play a key role this season, especially after Luke Shaw’s injury.

He added: “He is a fantastic player and a fantastic team-mate. He is a player who is very tough to get around. For him to be from Argentina and play in the Premier League is not easy but he has done a great job.

“He will be a very important player for us for the rest of the season.”

The OP article seems like pure speculation. Rojo on the other hand seems a quality player who will stay with us for a while.

I completely agree. But just goes to show how fickle the caf is (not attacking you), on the first page of this thread everyone wanted him out, criticised his attitude, now after one good performance vs Everton he is a 'quality player'.

We need to give our players time and cannot be so cut throat. Rojo, Memphis, Blind also, are all still new to the league. Let them gel, give them a chance and don't be so quick to want them gone after a few bad performances.

I agree. He was a bit out of sight out of mind when the article was posted and people were saying he will leave. Then he puts in a decent performance and the tide quickly turns.

That was a pretty bad thing for a professional player to do tbh.

He'd had his break, and all he had to do was make it to his pre booked flight with his passport, not asking too much really, and given how much emphasis LvG gives to fine details it was a really stupid thing to do, and well worth a bollocking + a bit more for doing it, if he's still not getting on with LvG (which I don't know he isn't) then we should get rid.

Meh. I'm pretty sure everyone's forgotten something "important" like that at some point. I forgot to renew my car's license plates for almost two months last year.

Apparently forgot to sign my most recent passport as well. I crossed the Canada-US border twice before a customs officer noticed, too.

I Started half way through the posts so missed where the c**t bit originated from, and yes I'd agree it isn't a accurate description, but that's not really the point, Rojo cost £16 million + Nani's wages for a year and has offered virtually nothing, the least he can do is actually turn up when he's supposed to.

Wouldn't be sad to see him go myself, he just doesn't seem like a United player to me.

Is it Nani-hurt that's influencing your opinion here?

I don't get the Rojo hate tbh. I think he has some good attributes and had an OK first season at the club.
He passes the ball out of the back well, he is strong, quick, and good in the air. He makes a few mistakes and can be a bit rash. Not that dissimilar to Jones.
He is however pretty versatile and setteling into English football. I expect him to be at the very least a very good squad player for us, which isn't bad for £16 in todays market

He has had quite a few shockers at doing that though particularly when he is played at fullback.

No Nani hurt from my side, just making the point that he was quite a big money signing and a pretty average one at that, we need to upgrade.

Can't see anything more than, at most, become an Ok-ish defender for us. We obviously need an upgrade to Rojo. But replacing him with Martins Indi would be a stupid move.

He's a useful squad player but he'll never be anything more than that - we need them so I don't see a problem with having him.
