MEN: Carrick and McKenna next in line for contract extensions

I don't know the work they do behind the scenes so can't really comment if it's good or not.. neither can anyone else. The responsibility of everything working or not lies with the manager though. They pick their own coaching staff to do what they want. So this is just extending them to what Ole is extended to.
 
Doesn’t really change a lot. If we lose 7 on the bounce I doubt this will keep us from pulling the trigger.
 
Who knows, maybe they come up with a bunch of ideas behind closed doors that Ole just rejects. We honestly just don't know.

I don’t think they come up with “ideas” at all. It’s all about get the best players on the pitch and hope they do something on their own and win the game. There isn’t a plan.

If Ole gets fired their compensation pales in comparison to how much we’ve already lost on glazer dividends, super league payouts, creep agents, crap players and other managers and their staff whose names nobody remembers. Truth be told we probably still aren’t hardworking, consistent or ruthless enough to win a league anyway and that’s disappointing for sure. maybe a different manager is the next step but in the meantime begrudging someone a contract while we are going through a rough patch but also while we’ve shown improvement year after year seems quite petty to me. If they don’t improve or compete this year they’ll most likely be gone. Not much more to say about it. You have to back them and hope they can improve and turn it around again when things are a bit shit too. Take the rough with the smooth and the entertaining with the confusing. These things aren’t always linear and it’s always a work in progress.

Its hard being a utd fan post Fergie but just look at Arsenal or Liverpool until Klopp. Nothing is guaranteed. Indecisive owners sacking managers and back to square one over and over. Trial and error. Lots of messing up and false dawns and wasted cash. It’s par for the course. If you aren’t financially doping like Chelsea or City you have to cut some corners and have some faith at some point. So as long as we are still improving each season I’m happy.

Of course their compensation is peanuts compared to what they've taken out and all the other things you've mentioned. It's not my money or yours that are paying for these coaches and I have no hate towards them whatsoever. My problem with these contracts is not Phelan, Carrick or whoever getting paid I respect all of them for what they've done. My problem is we were put under the impression this summer that maybe the club is turning over a new leaf, signing 3 world class players in the transfer window with no headaches or twists that our transfer windows usually bring. People were impressed with Murtagh and happy that Woodward is leaving. Optimism at the start of the season was definitely at an all-time high post Fergie. The performances on the pitch have not backed up the optimism whatsoever and the fact that despite this, they are still willing to give out these contracts proves that we still have the exact same issues in terms of running the club that's been plaguing us since the beginning. Do you think the Chelsea owners, City owners or even the Liverpool owners will be giving out new contracts after seeing what we've seen, knowing in the next two months it might all go tits up. No chance. Unfortunately this proves the general consensus that we've always had, our owners and top management are happy with top 4 and that for me is the problem, not Carrick or Mckenna getting more money. I'm not the one paying them.

Organizational continiuity is invaluable. Renewing staff on outgoing contracts is the only way to handle employment when the club is backing the ongoing project.

Fans who insist that we don't renew contracts "and wait and see" are wrong with regards to how a good workplace operates. Just imagine going to work every day and wondering if you're going to get fired in 6 months because you don't know if you're getting a a new contract? It's incredibly distracting and no way to foster a good working environment.

Mckenna is a highly rated coach there are countless articles on his preferred style of play, he’s done long form interviews on it. His under 18s played very very good football.

How do you think it should have played out? Ole was given a new deal. That’s that. But from there on what should the club have done.

Let’s say they do think Ole’s days are limited if he doesn’t turn it around. Do they not give the coaches the same extension as he got, and what was expected and thereby undermine him abs unsettle the whole coaching structure. Or do they support them until the last and give them the chance to turn it around.
 
It's quite liberating tbh. You only feel pain if you actually had hope of winning something. Now I know our aim is to get top 4. We'll be Arsenal under Wenger, minus the FA cups.

Well usually if you do have a change of manager they end up changing the coaching staff as well. What I would do is hold back on negotiations at least until we've gone through the next seven games as to be quite honest, Oles short term future is really in doubt. If we go through a rough patch in the next seven fixtures which is certainly possible considering who we're playing Ole will get the sack regardless, therefore the new manager might end up changing the whole coaching setup.

I don't understand the argument 'unsettle the whole coaching setup'. Mate you're the manager and coaches of Manchester United if you ain't performing at your job just like any other job you're going to have to face the consequences. They understand the situation more than us and are grown ass men. They know that right now the way the team is playing they are underserving of a new contract. It may light a fire up their ass instead of unsettling them.
 
It's just standard for a coach and his assistants to have the same number of years on their contracts.

Honestly I hadn’t heard of him before he joined us. Now I’m not saying I know every single top coach but I usually know about the coaches we hire cause I genuinely like to read up on them and see their style of play. But being a great U-18 coach doesn’t mean anything if you don’t adapt to the level of completion and players you’re playing with. It just means you aren’t good at your job. Same with players coming from the Championship. Just cause they smashed it in the Championship doesn’t mean they will smash in the PL.

So that just tells me you didn’t read much about him. It was quite well publicised that Spurs were pissed that we poached him. Also more I’m saying he doesn’t just think ‘go out there and play’ he has a style of playing and knows far much more than you ever could about coaching tactics and football in general. But yeh belittle him because you’ve done now research into him.

Exactly. No issue here. If things get worse, coaches being on slightly longer contracts will make no difference.
 
Don't worry. If they don't deliver, they will be all sacked together to.
