Memphis is so gangsta.
Didn't realise we'd signed Lewis Hamilton as well!

I think there's a good chance he will get #9. Anyone with me on this? :)

Van Gaal wanted RvP to take that number but he refused. He also made Wilson change his from 47 to 49 because he's a striker and needed a 9. Memphis (currently?) isn't a striker so I don't think so.

Just watched the press conference, he seems like a good, confident kid. I'm also a fan of his game, so I'm very happy about the transfer.

He is very vein(?) and spends alot of time on how he looks. Also buys the latest fashion which looks terrible but I still have hope that he might grow a full beard one day.

'vain' :)

Looks like there's some chemistry brewing between him and Shaw.

I hope some of his confidence rubs off on Shaw. Exactly the sort of personality he needs around him. And Memphis for all his 'gangsta' cool ways, seems like a decent lad. So will be pleased if they get along well.

They need to get along too, given they're likely to play on the same flank.

For the Di Maria is leaving brigade out there; Memphis' Twitter cover picture says M7...

It means nowt you bellends

Having never seen him what should my expectations for him be for next season? I still feel we're missing that match winner like Hazard was for Chelsea last season, could Depay be that player or too soon for that?

He's not as otherworldly nimble as Hazard but he'll get on the end of more things and shoot better from distance. More goals and less assists than Hazard would be my prediction.

In the league, Hazard got 7 non-penalty goals at the age Memphis is now, in his debut Prem season, than 10 then 11. Sanchez got an impressive 15. Going off that, and thinking about others I think we could see 8-10 for a year or two than 12-14 from Memphis in terms of goalscoring, which would be right up there with Pires (behind Cristiano) in the history of the Prem in terms of wingers, but he's not going to be as consistently brilliant an overall player as Hazard is.

hazard is the twinkle toe winger, arguably the best dribbler in the premiership. plus he is pretty cool infront of the goal especially with penalties. 10-15 goals in the PL for a winger is an achievement. beckham for a couple of seasons did managed to get into double figures, and like you said, a certain robert pires, and even ljunberg.

memphis is more direct than hazard, less skillful on the ball but a better shooter. i agree with you about the more goals but less assists prediction. maybe in a year or two though, first season in the PL for a 21 year old, it is tough for sure.

It looks like Depay is thinking to himself "will that guy just shut the feck up!!"

They seem to have started off a good friendship looking at the recent photos this week.

He always looks really really bored in his interviews. Is that his usual style @NL Max? Or is he already bored of the British journos and their cliche questions?

He's shy and doesn't like interviews, from what I've seen he's not fully fluid in English either (it's not bad mind). He ignored Dutch media alot and like he said during his unveiling: I'd rather let my feet speak. He does interviews from time to time as he accepts it's a part of his job but I'm sure if he had the choice to never speak to a camera he'd take it.

Don't expect him to change much, he's dedicated to training and playing football - interviews aren't his thing. Cocked up 3 times in Dutch videos already too.

Ah that would make sense, he did look rather nervous. Much rather have a player that just wants to play football, and prove himself on the pitch, then constantly talk himself up. I reckon the English media wont take long till they misinterpret him and start labeling arrogant and what not though. I'm sure LVG will protect him well.

He doesn't care what media write about him luckily, he's been portrayed as all kind of things in the Netherlands already. 'He ignores media and is constantly on his phone, listening to music, spending money on expensive clothes bla bla'. He said it doesn't affect him as they don't know him, they don't need to. He doesn't want pity for his past either, he's a strong kid with his eyes on a goal: to become the best footballer.

When fights started in the stadium after a match, Memphis saw a young kid crying amongst the fighting elders. He ran over there, lifted the kid over the boards and gave him his shirt, saying: people shouldn't fight with each other. He does care about his fans, but he's usually too nervous during interviews to be really open about himself (during a TV programma with de Mol he was 'really open', but still didn't say much and was pretty nervous). He also hired all kind of professionals for his personal life, by his own accord. They regulate how much he has to spend and his diet etcetera. I have full trust in Memphis as a person so don't really care he doesn't interact much with the press. He also didn't speak ABN (official Dutch) but usually combined with a bit of street slang.

Look like a pair of school kids - the naff 'school' tie, the backpacks, the questionable facial hair.

Shaw the overenthusiastic nerd tasked with showing the new kid around.

:lol: exactly what I was thinking before i saw your post.

His dutch is about as good as his english.

In an interview with SportBild, new Manchester United man Memphis Depay has revealed that Bayern Munich also wanted to sign him.

“I spoke with almost all the top clubs in the world,” Depay said. “Bayern Munich was one of them.”

I saw the scout nation skill videos for the 13/14 and 14/15 seasons. I can see why people liken him to Ronaldo. It's not in the playing style. In 13/14 he was raw and tried to do a lot of tricks and dribbles going past players ad all. Like Ronaldo when he arrived first. He was also quite wasteful at times at the goal level and was more focussed on assisting than scoring I felt. But in 14/15 he seemed to focus more on the finishing aspect and was more direct than before. Some goals seemed selfish just like how Ronaldo had been in his last 2 seasons or so. He has the confidence to do well and I think he will do well here.

I don't know why people want him to play up front, its a complete waste of his talents imo.
Anyway if this guy brings 50% of what he brought last year, he could be the signing of the window imo.

Have you seen him play? It's like when people suggest Ronaldo should play up top. I don't necessarily agree with it but I can see why it's being considered. He scores goals and has the instincts of a striker.
