He looks decent, although he is incredibly one footed and very predictable because of it. The amount of times the space is there for him to go right and he persists in going left and loses the ball.
Only that he isnt, he ofcourse has a massive preference for right, but I've seen him give crosses with his left, that Young barely puts in with his right.

Young's also right footed?

only he's actually two footed and can shoot with both feet and can also cross with both feet. Strange that you would think he's very one footed

That's the point.
I didn't really catch the gist of his sentence all together but I thought he was saying that it wouldn't be a problem if Memphis could only use his right because Young plays and he barely puts any in with his right (implying he only puts them in with his left). Apologies.

Don't worry about it!

Young is a good crosser with his right but fairly inconsistent which is Depay too I feel but we will see it next season..

...and the more we know...

Just going off the bits I've seen so far. The video above is an excellent example of the way he always goes left before getting crowded out and losing the ball. Looks a bit raw to me that's all. Clearly a talented player but not the finished article at the moment!

He's as finished an article you'll get at 21. He needs to pick his moments but he's shown it all already at PSV: skills, teamplayer, pace, strenght, goals/assists with both feet, headers, tap-ins, vision. His 'weakness' (doesn't really have any) would be backtracking which he didn't need to do alot at PSV and his decision making. Once the latter improves over time he'll be a monster, trust me :)

In fact his backtracking internationally when it matters has been brilliant.

Yeah he is raw... Needs to be better in decision making. But he can use both feet, takes shots with both and crosses with both. Maybe not as much as Nani but good enough. Lvg has said we should be patient with him but I think he has showed enough to prove he can be fantastic

@fergieisold he looks one footed with his dribbling a little bit. It seems he's comfortable to go on his right but he seems a little lost when he goes left. His might be two footed with his shooting and passing but he looks very reliant on his right when he dribbles.

I thought he's so good at dribbling because he keeps switching between going to his left and then right sort of like Suarez does. He waits for the defender to commit and then just go to the opposite side.

Well I don’t think he’s that good at dribbling anyway. It does remind me of Suarez indeed, but it seems to me he doesn’t have full control over the ball at times. IMO he will be good once he improves his close control, seems more comfortable with running at speed though.

Well, he's only 21. There's a lot of improvement to be done and that is why he's so exciting. He's already at quite a good standard at his age with a lot of first team experience and now he just needs to step up that extra level. No one expects a 21 year old player to be the finished product. I don't think anyone here expects Memphis to score 20 goals in his first season.

I agree with your post completely, although I think he is quite overrated on the CAF and a lot of people expect too much from him for the next season IMO (just take a look into https://www.redcafe.net/threads/predictions-for-depays-debut-season.405320/ thread).

On his instagram profile, with the comment 'Real recognize Real'.

Either he's already tapping up players for us and he's a good boy, or he's suggesting he and Pogba are planning their Real moves.

not want Pogba, he wouldn't pass his medical here due to his right-angled thumb anyway

Found a little more information about Liverpool their chase of Memphis. Marcel Brands has said this:

'I've had contact with 3 clubs, they all knew we were willing to do business. I haven't spoken to Rodgers, but I have had contact with Ian Ayre. I was aware of fitness issues with Sturridge and maybe that has changed their decision, but I wouldn't know that. I don't know how Liverpool work. In the end, Manchester United were very quick and convinced Memphis. I'm happy with the transfer.'

Dutch press suggests Liverpool backed out at a certain point, but that isn't certain. So they definately were interested but might've been scared off by his transfer fee/wages/they didn't know Sturridge was injury prone.

Am I the only one who fails to see what all the fuss is about? I really hope im missing something and he turns out to be a great player for us and I know he has some good scoring/assist stats from last season but the few times I have watched him play and from the video clips I see posted around everywhere I really struggle to see what is so special about him. I know hes young and not the finished article but I have seen many players who look better at a young age and there's nowhere as much hype around them.

Why is Memphis being hyped up so much like hes the next big thing? Is there some evidence im missing that indicates he will be a great player?

He's strong, quick, skillfull, has a great freekick and scores goals, is a team player and has the drive to become the best player in the world. Within 1,5 years he became a regular starter at PSV and grew into the best player in the league and topscorer as left winger, earning interest by PSG, Liverpool and us (at least). He's 21 and hasn't really got a weakness, he's still inconsistent though. What more are you looking for in a talent?

Memphis is a winger, he is very fast, takes on his man and can strike the ball very good. This is the type of player people most people like to see playing. Also signing a young player who already proved to be a very decent player in the Eredivisie, Europa League and at the World Cup is exciting. He could develop into a top player just like Ronaldo, de Gea and Rooney did at this club. He could also fail and be a Anderson (although Memphis his mentality is great) but a young player becoming a star is an interesting process to see.

I am happy we signed a more proven talent this time instead of the gambles like Zaha, Powell, Bebe and Obertan.

How many people do you see score 30 goals (and another 7 assists or so) while playing on the wing? Only Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar have scored that many in a season while playing as a winger (off the top of my head), in recent history at least. That's with him just having turned 21. Ignoring his productivity, he has a great shot, had the best record from set pieces in Europe last season, is fast, physically strong, is creative, scored 2 goals in his first ever world cup when he was 20, has the drive to become the best that some lack perhaps, etc.. Really not sure what else you would want?

So many notable people from the netherlands have come out and said how big of a talent he is, how he is already a very good player but his potential is enormous. He has the stats to back that up, and has the perfect manager to get the best out of him.
