Great signing! Welcome aboard Memphis.

Serious question - why don't we make all our signings like this? Quick and before the transfer window is even open.

What I'd give for a pre-injury Strootman. He'd have been perfect

A lot of people were saying the same about Vidal, earlier in the season. After watching him boss central midfield against Madrid the other day, the post-injury Vidal is looking tempting too. ACL surgery takes a lot out of you. Can be a year or more before players get back to their best. I wouldn't write Strootman off just yet.

I wouldnt write him off yet but he did have a second bad injury this season didn't he? We need to be careful. This summer is out of the question. If he remains injury free next season and does well then we might take a look in 12 months time.

I swear this thread has had its title changed 10 times today

Wonder why we waited when PSG had already made their move two weeks ago. Is there any advantage to doing that in terms of negotiations? If we knew for sure we wanted him, surely the best course of action would be to get to him before anyone else can turn his head?

Maybe someone at the club as well...

Can o' worms...

Dont understand that either. Maybe we were waiting on Bale but given that Ancelotti and his agent have both denied he is going to leave this summer we decided to act fast and actually get Depay.

True, and I wouldn't be surprised if LVG has earmarked Strootman for next Summer, as Carrick's long term successor. Providing he proves his fitness and gets back to his former level of course.

"PSG were already very serious for Memphis before the winter break. We had reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain and I'd have said he would be joining PSG had you asked me about his next destination two days ago." PSV sporting director, Brands told Omroep Brabant.

"Only in the last 48 hours did Manchester United step up their interest and things went very fast from there on. In the end, the player decides where he wants to go and he wanted Manchester."

Because it's better to give Liverpool some hope of getting him before utterly crushing them. Pure entertainment.

Well, having not seen loads of this lad and watching YouTube videos, I have a good strong erection...FYI.

Here are 5 facts about Memphis Depay :

Born in Moordrecht, 13/02/94: Depay is the son of a Ghanaian father and Dutch mother, and was born in the southern Dutch town of Moordrecht, where he played for local team VV Moordrecht before his desire to succeed as a professional led to him joining PSV at the age of 12. His late grandfather was a great influence on him and Depay has words dedicated to him tattooed down this left arm. “That man gave me a lot of strength,” he once explained.

Won the Euro U21 Championship in 2011: At 16 he was called up to represent the Netherlands at Under-17 level and was later part of Holland’s European U17 Championship winning squad of 2011, even scoring in the final as Holland beat Germany 5-2. “Memphis is one of the greatest talents of the Netherlands, a very passionate and ambitious guy too," explained PSV technical manager Marcel Brands. "If he continues his development in this way, the club is going to have a lot of fun with him around."

Scored 42 goals in 104 games for PSV: Depay netted within 20 minutes of his senior debut in 2011 in an 8-0 destruction of VVSB Noordwijkerhout in the Dutch Cup. His Eredivisie debut came at 18 in the last minute of a 3-2 win over Feyenoord in 2012. In total, he has scored 42 goals in 104 appearances and won the Eredivisie title late last month. A fast, tricky winger with a direct style, he can also play as a striker and has often been compared to Arjen Robben and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Holland’s youngest World Cup scorer: Depay has 15 international caps and impressively scored twice at last summer’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil. His first goal, against Australia in a 3-2 win for Holland, made him the youngest-ever Dutch goalscorer in a World Cup, surpassing the previous record set by Boudewijn Zenden at France 1998. The 21-year-old followed that up with another strike in a 2-0 win over Chile.

Memphis has mates in Manchester: Louis van Gaal gave Depay his international debut on 15 October 2013 when the United boss was in charge of the Dutch national team and he has a strong bond with the player. Of course, when the transfer is completed, Memphis can look forward to linking up with his compatriots Robin van Persie and Daley Blind at the Aon Training Complex.

Here's an article from last year on our new signing to give some insight into why Memphis is not the next Andros Townsend. Makes for some interesting reading.

TL,DR:

How many guys last season across the five big Euro leagues and the Eredivisie created more chances per 90 minutes than Depay?

The answer
: two.
Their names? Ronaldo and Messi.

Not to forget that Albert Stuivenberg was his manager of that U17 team he won the EC with. Didn't win it with U21 though, I assume that's a typo.
