I hope we are not targeting Vermaelen because he is cheap. The guy is a very good backup but is so injury prone that I am worried we will see more of Carrick at CB if we stay with our current options + Vermaelen for next season, as they all seem to be made of glass.

I seriously doubt that's the way LvG would view it if indeed we buy him. He's probably looking for depth and experience from a player he knows and rates. Nothing more.

Sounds like the name of a Vegas cowboy bookie of French heritage.

"Hello Ladies, they call me Memphis DePay, and if you lay a bet with me I always pay off!"

I dunno, maybe I am misguided in saying this but I thought he was quite poor and wasteful today. It was probably his worst performance in the world cup so far.

Don't know about that. He's been great since start of '13, this last season he's added the end product though.
It is true they all seemed to hate him and loved slagging him off even after he started to play well at the start of '13. A case of fans who don't actually pay attention to matches, just complain and Ramsey was the go to guy. The best was down in the newbs last summer some guy tried to tell me Aaron was one of the worst players in the PL.

He's not impress me at all yesterday. His first touch is not good. He lose possession so easily too. But he's still very young though.

I will take a guess. I don't think LVG will try to sign him this summer. :D

Depay is not a certainty to become a top player. He is a decent talent and only should be signed for something close to 10-12 mil if we want to gamble a bit. He may turn out great or just ok.

I don't see it with him, he's certainly not in that "special" category. He'll turn out a good player, I'm not sure he has a higher ceiling.

Said it before and I can only judge him on this tournament, it's all I have seen of him but he just seems a more powerful Ashley Young.

Almost any winger at this WC is better than Ashley Young. Depay at 20 years of age looks worth a try, can only get better.

Zaha showed more in the championship play-offs a couple of season's back than Depay has shown for the Dutch in this tournament.

We don't need another prospect, we already have Januzaj, Zaha, Lingard and Lawrence. What we need is a proven talent like Sanchez. Reus or diMaria for our wings. At the worst Cuadrado.

all you mentioned are dream stuff, even Cuadrado, the only one can improve or has not to move away from CL football is a long shot as he is wanted by a lot of CL clubs.

United has always has been good at signing players before their prime. I like that and Depay fits right in there.

I can see why people think that as they both play as inverted wingers. But Depay does anything Ashley can can do better. He can beat players both with skill or just with his pace. He's got an insane shot-technique similar to Ronaldo and Bale. He's also got good vision and likes to thread through a pass. Even on a bad day he still has these matchwinning attributes. I have to agree with the opinion that he's probably not the ready winger we need as of now.

No doubt from what I have seen from him he is better than Young and he does look like he has a bright future. But I agree that he just isn't the right player for us at the moment.

Please tell me this is a joke? Trying to compare the championship play off to the World Cup is insane. They are on completely different levels. To me Depay has done well in the tournament. As a 20 year old he may be worth a punt but LVG will have seen a lot more of him than I have so obviously wouldn't make a definitive call on that.

He is quick, has a good shot. 2 goals 1 Assist from 3 games he played is more than Zaha managed to do in 12 PL games.

Zaha is still miles away from being a PL player. His decision making ist poor and he is therefore unproductive.

I share your opinion that we shouldn't block the way for our prospects but if we can get rid of Young and maybe Nani too, then there would be possibilities for Lingard, Zaha or Lawrence.

Looked Raw today starting from the start and didn't impress much.

He seems talented but we need probably someone more ready if we buy that sort of player.

Why are some United fans like this? You are in my eyes the biggest club in the world, the biggest name there is in football. Even a United hater couldn't deny you are at least one of the biggest.

Yet you think Cuadrado is a "dream" signing just because of one poor season. You've just got an excellent new manager and are spending money, players can see you are going to be a different prospect next season. Seriously, your expectations are so low. You have money, pay very high wages and are a big club - there aren't that many signings that are impossible.

He's great coming from the bench!

But we don't need another raw winger. I still think LVG could get something out of Zaha.

well shit, was his move only a loan move? that seems so long ago.......i have not seen zaha enough to judge him but lvg may want to take a look at both he and nani. are ya'll convinced they are both shite?

Lingard, Lawrence and Zaha all need to be given a chance before we even begin to think about bringing in another young winger with potential.

Depends on how big a talent that young winger is perceived to be as i earlier said in the Lawrence thread.

Seems to blow a bit hot and cold. Definitely needs another year or two before he's ready for a big club IMO.

I don't think we'll be going for him, as some have pointed out we have a couple of young wide players in the same age bracket that have yet to have a real chance.

We already have players before their prime. We don't need another one.

Agreed. We are not in a position to pick up players and give them tme to develop in the hope they come good. We need established quality to make up for failing to buy such players in recent years, and also a string of "promising" buys turning out to be bleh.

Dutch football writer seems to think Depay to us is done and dusted

If true, Spurs have a very exciting three behind the forward in Lamela, Eriksen and Depay that should develop and progress season on season. Good signing for Spurs.

Need a striker though.

Think Soldado will do well under Poch and with better service. He's clearly a good player (unlike Chadli) that was horribly low on confidence and service last season. His all round play is excellent and he's done well in pre-season (Though this means little, to be fair.)

His goal scoring record at Valencia was excellent.

I wasn't impressed in the slightest last year, but as you say, with the service he should get and a superior manager in Pochettino he should look better. Front three is looking strong but I still think you're in need of a CB (Mustachio if/when he arrives), a RB (not a fan of Walker) but most importantly a comfortable, ball-playing midfielder in the middle. I think your current crop are too physically and defensively reliant. Will be interesting to see if Pochettino can get you playing like the pressing unit he had at Southampton and if he can, the battle for top four will be all so stronger.

Looked a very good prospect in the World Cup. Surprised that Van Gaal has not hijacked this one as he seems to rate him.

Bit of a case of where does he play at the moment. If we continue with the 3-5-2, Welbeck basically fulfils the role he did at the WC.
