@Henrik Larsson Why wasn't he (Vilhena) taken to the WC? Just not ready? The midfield competition isn't up to much.
Wijnaldum was chosen over him, and compared to him, Tonny Vilhena just isn't ready like you said. He did make it to the last 30 players though, which is nice. But Wijnaldum is an excellent player, played on the wing or at #10 for Feyenoord and PSV, but this season he was used at CM, did really well there. Got injured heavily, but is fit now. Bit of a Muller type of player, very energetic, smart movement, always looking for a goal and multifunctional.
Thanks for a very informative reply,
@Henrik Larsson. Interesting to see how highly you rate Vilhena. I've got a mate who follows Dutch footie closely and he absolutely raves about him. Between the two of you and my having liked what little I've seen of him, I'm starting to think he's the real deal.
Yeah well he's also my favourite because he plays for my hometown club, I met him a couple of times watching Feyenoords youth training and all, and he's really funny/silly. Prenounces his name like 'Tony' as in T. Soprano Tony, though his name has to times 'N' in it. So everyone simply refers to him as ' Tony ' .
Talent wise Tonny just looks very special, hard to describe him really. Outstanding left foot, very strong too for his size and age, but he is a #10. Feyenoord has used him as #8 mostly and he did very well there too. A bit of a Van der Vaart x Strootman hybrid is what he looks like. Not as technically brilliant as VDV, but stronger than him and more creative than Strootman.
Whether he's the real, real, real deal I don't know, but Tonny is just something 'special', as in: really different from anything I've seen style wise. But when I was talking about Van Persie for instance, he gave an assist in the semi final of the Uefa Cup vs. Inter Milan when he was 18. It's a bit easier to tell if someone is really special when he gets tested on a level like that.
Richairo Zivkovic is also someone I'm really curious about. Looks very special for sure. Ajax just signed him from FC Groningen (Robben, Suarez, Blind played there too) and he is 17 years old. Already played a full season on the Dutch highest level, scoring 10 goals in 29 matches. He will be 18 years old in September 2014, and looks like the new top bracket forward the Dutch have been waiting for for since RVP and Robben hit the scene.
got some really smart and good moments for a 17 year old playing on the highest level for sure.
