I don't care either way, just saying that people better get used to the idea that he may end up at Liverpool

Liverpool can run and put all the effort in till the cows come home it wouldnt make a shred of difference if LVG wants him....and the only reason LVG will not want him is if we are looking at someone bigger....ie Bale or Reus.....we are fine either way.

You all act as if Lvg owns him or something.

LVG doesnt own him but they have a long standing relationship, not to mention we are the better club, with the better coach ...who are actually in the champions league next season....and we'll pay more.

There is nothing Liverpool can offer him that we cannot.

Regular first team football?

They can guarantee him almost no competition on the wing. His biggest competition is sterling and he prefers to be central anyway.

We have Di Maria, mata and januzaj who all play wide, not to mention young who is keeping Di Maria out.

The better club is subjective.

The only reason we wouldn't be able to offer him 1st team football is if we have someone better lined up....Reus/Bale/etc.
I think Tottenham bid for him in the last year and he rejected them because he "wanted a club with more ambition"....does this sound like a man who wants to play for Liverpool in the Europa league?

I have never been more relaxed about a transfer in years.

If he is as confident in his own ability as he seems to be he shouldn't be even concerned about Young and Adnan for starters, and offers us something the others don't if can perform here,

@Damien unless they got a private jet, perhaps flying into Manchester was easier, flights were more convenient?

Maybe there arent direct flights from Amsterdam (or wherever his agents are based) to Liverpool?

It most likely would have been a private jet. Memphis posted a pic on his instagram the day after with him and his agent by an Under Armour private jet.

Without getting too transfer muppettry about this. ..

If he was in a private jet they may have preferred manchester over liverpool airport.

Manchester airport has at least one business aviation based operator in Ocean Sky (now RSS i think...or it may even now be enterprise. ..anyway) whereas im not sure liverpool has any.

It's not a massive thing but for the sake of a 35 min drive to Liverpool, or even a meeting half way it would probably be easier for them to go to Manchester.

For the record i think the idea he went to Manchester airport and didn't speak to us as well as Liverpool pretty unbelievable

Oh it's gone past that point especially now the caf's aviation expert is involved :D

Thanks for all that. I agree with the end point. His day off was as good a time as any to possibly kill two birds with one stone and see/speak to both clubs.

Even with our current options he would have less competition at Liverpool.

It's just funny to see that you've all decided that we can have him at will with pretty much no information whatsoever. I'm not denying that he could well choose us, but anything could be going on in his head and none of you really know. It's all conjecture.

Well, yeah, but again we'd be presuming things. Adnam himself is an incredibly talented footballer. If him and Di Maria are in top form next season it's not going to be easy to displace them.

Basically I can easily see this guy signing for us, but people being so certain is a bit odd.

There will be great competition between the Bale camp and the Memphis camp. I for one would rather Manchester United sign Memphis.

They'd all start pre-season on level footing though and Depay has a speed, power and goal threat advantage over Adnan who looks like he needs a loan to me.

I agree it's not nearly as set in stone as some think, they have built up a relationship between LvG and Depay that mirrors Fergie and Ronaldo, but I am not sure that is actually the case.

Van Gaal seems to be fair with players and it seems to me that he would not bring in a prospect like Memphis unless he felt he would give him enough playing time to develop his career. What I am saying is that if van Gaal wants Memphis then Memphis would presumably feel that United is a good move for him. So the amount of competition on the wing may not be very important. And would he rather play with Rooney and RVP or Balotelli and Lambert?

My thinking goo. It's far from set in stone

He is probably 2nd or 3rd down the transfer list. Van Gaal wants to win the league and I think he will want Bale, but I don't see why we can't get both, it's not like our wide options are great right now.

We don't care too much for Messi,
'cos Memphis Depay we love.
Depay we love, love, love
Depay we love, love, love
Depay we love, love, love...

and so on.

Even if Bale is first choice, why don't we do the Chelsea thing of just buying him for the sake of it. Then loaning him out and then selling him for twice the price?

Like we did with these two muppets Bebe and Zaha....

But seriously I agree with you, you don't follow up a very good season with two goals at the WC and then absolutely storm the league this season with 27 goals from out wide...the guy has the physique, power and skill for the premier league and would be working under a manager he knows, if he did not adapt, loan him and sell him the Chelsea way. For me its a no brainer at the price being quoted.
Bale seems a pipe dream. Had the chance to sign for us and chose Madrid, wants to stay but may be forced out to accommodate another signing and then we'd have to battle it out with teams like City, Chelsea and who knows if he becomes available.

Every signing is a battle at the end of the day. Last season we had a taste of doing it big with transfers.. I think this season we need to go down the same route. Targeting the Bale and Pogba's. I'm sure Memphis will be we'll advised and won't be signing for a Liverpool as soon as the window opens.

I agree to a degree but I don't think Depay will be much of a battle if we really want him. But if we are advising him he is our back up do you really think he would be happy with that...maybe he is?
Last summer we signed Di Maria as a British record transfer after the club he was seemingly going to sign for got scuppered by FFP. Herrera we paid his clause and Blind and Rojo were hardly being chased by the elite teams. Falcao yes had options by all accounts and Jose was quoted as saying we paid too much for Shaw and they were unwilling to go anywhere near that price. That transfer window was a good one but I don't think we were battling it out for those signings.
If Bale, Reus, Pogba etc became available I'm sure the elite clubs home and abroad will be wanting them and I personally believe they would choose other teams ahead of us. I'd rather have the problem of signing very good players we could get (Depay) for relatively cheap prices then also be bidding for the likes of those, if we manage to get one or two of them also (finances permitting) then LvG will have a selection headache but also a squad capable of beating the best out there.
We may be doing that exact thing, I'm just speculating of course but it's what I would do after trimming the squad down further with the like of Evans, Hernandez, Nani and possibly Di Maria if a big offer comes in for him.

So in a nutshell you are saying the best Players will choose other Teams and we will pick up the rest and the overpriced ones?

I think we would be outsiders for the likes of those players I mentioned.
The players I believe we can get I said at relatively cheap prices so overpriced doesn't come into it.

I think it will also depend on the situation our current wide players find themselves in at the end of the season. Will Nani return? Does Young's contact expire this summer? regardless of his much improved form. Do we even have plans to play Di Maria in a wide position? We could potentially be heading into next season for Januzaj and Valencia as our only natural wide players (the latter being deployed at right back). I think there would certainly be more than enough room for both Memphis Depay and Gareth Bale.

Next season we need a bigger squad, I expect longer cup runs, European games and more injuries.

Jeez I hope not.

There's a scouser on Twitter saying Depay is liking "welcome to Liverpool" comments on FB. He's definitely revelling in the interest.

Anyone else not too fussed where he ends up? If it's us great but wouldn't loose any sleep if he goes to Liverpool. They'll be selling Sterling anyway so hardly threatening.

It's true that he's liked a ''welcome to Liverpool'' comment on facebook, just checked.

Not fussed if our first option is indeed Bale. We have much much more of a chance of winning the league with Bale than Memphis in the side
