Bit harsh to call NL Max a muppet. He's pretty much the authority on PSV in general and Depay in particular. I appreciate his comments, even though it stings that PSV won the league.

It's just the top poster in the thread, thats all. Nothing harmful meant by it. akash chose the wording.

peterstorey and GlastonSpur aren't exactly muppets of their respective threads either. Just people who really, really didn't want those players to come to us.

Rodgers Remains Coy About Depay, But Admits Manchester United Could Be A More Attractive Destination

Liverpool and Manchester United are very keen on adding a certain Dutchman within their ranks. That is basically what all the papers and media outlets reporting at the moment. Memphis Depay is attracting interest from a lot of top clubs but arch rivals Liverpool and Manchester United seem to be the two clubs who are leading the chase.

It was also reported that Depay had been impressed with FSG’s ambition in chasing him as they have been believed to be scouting him for over a year, and with their vision for the club’s future and desire to include Depay in it. Manchester United do hold the trump card in this chase as it is Louis van Gaal who leads the side and Depay could be keen to reunite with van Gaal at Manchester United. However, Liverpool – according to the various reports doing rounds at the moment – seem very keen on the player and could perhaps land him.

When asked to comment on the links, Brendan Rodgers remained coy and refused to be drawn into speculation. He did admit that the Dutchman is a fantastic talent.

Rodgers would not talk about the possibility of the Dutchman coming to Merseyside after Saturday’s game, but admitted a goalscorer is something he wants this summer.

“I can’t confirm either way – you know me, in terms of speculation of players,” he said. “The kid is a very talented player, of course. But I wouldn’t like to confirm either way.

“It’s clear we need the goal threat for next year. There’s going to be a whole raft of players that I’m sure will be looked at, then will be up to the club if they’re affordable and if they’re available.

“We’ve identified that [a striker] as a priority. We’ll have to see availability first, and then take it from there.”

Liverpool Echo report that Liverpool officials think it will be difficult to get the player as Manchester United are also chasing Depay, and the 21-year-old will favour a move to Old Trafford, with Champions League football a key factor.

Rodgers said that despite missing out on the top-4, players will still want to come to the club, “If it’s right for the player, and the project is right for them to come and learn and develop, then if we’re not in the Champions League – which is probably highly unlikely – players will still want to come. Of course, they want to play in the Champions League. But if they’ve watched us over a few years, this is maybe a season we miss out on, but if we can regroup again, get some quality starters in for the summer, then we can go on another great adventure next season and hopefully get back in there.”

Sounds like the regular things a player looks at when deciding. Doesn't come across as United under lvg is only place he wants to be.

I don't like the quietness of this thread today after a buzz of posts last week.

See there's no way he was in Manchester and didn't see us. As we've not put an official offer in I reckon he's denying he's spoken to us as instructed.

I'm a big fan of you Gambit, I've followed you're muppetry ways before I even made an account on here. But be serious now, how has it been confirmed that he was in Manchester? I'm assuming you're referring to the agent posting a picture of AON complex on twitter?

I'd be astounded if anyone beats NLMax to the title for this thread. Still early doors though, anything is possible in this game.

No. It was confirmed he flew into Manchester last week by pretty much every news outlet. The fact he was in Manchester was never in doubt.

He flew into Manchester airport, that has been confirmed even though reports are that he flew into to the airport to go to the Liverpool meeting.

Is Manchester the closest airport to Liverpool? How far apart are these two cities out of curiosity?

Which is daft unless the Liverpool meeting was specifically in Manchester. I know any proposed meeting wouldn't be done at either stadia, but these images are just to give an idea for those who don't know how far apart they are:

@Damien unless they got a private jet, perhaps flying into Manchester was easier, flights were more convenient?

Maybe there arent direct flights from Amsterdam (or wherever his agents are based) to Liverpool?

Although perhaps they just didnt want their Lear Jet up on bricks when they got back to the airport.

There's no point second guessing what's going on here, though I could 100% believe that we have our eyes on bigger things right now, such as Bale. Whether that is entirely wise is another matter.

If that is the case, I just hope we don't end up making a last minute dash for Depay when we realize Bale isn't happening. We'll end up with zilch.

Honestly think we'll get Depay this window, with the confirmation maybe even coming before it opens.

Thought what do I know, I'm still of the opinion De Gea will be a United player next season. :nervous:

The muppetry on the Caf never ceases to amaze me.
Is it not wonderful, anyways? Gives some basis to smile after debacles like yesterday. I always enjoy Sherlocks using their methods of deduction when it comes to United-related transfers. May the muppets keep their flags flying high!

Doubt I will either though that spreadsheet the other day. I wonder what the cumulative posts across all of them would be like.

Shouldn't that read as highly likely (If we are not in the Champs League)?

No he meant it. Scouse delusion.

Wait. So he thinks it is highly unlikely they will miss out?!!

The last paragraph makes it read as a typo - although I do think they have a chance to make it, he wouldn't be that positive... surely!!

lol no, i'm sure it was a mistake, i was just taking the piss.

He's going to end up at Liverpool I reckon, they've done all the running and put the effort in to make him feel wanted

Liverpool can run and put all the effort in till the cows come home it wouldnt make a shred of difference if LVG wants him....and the only reason LVG will not want him is if we are looking at someone bigger....ie Bale or Reus.....we are fine either way.
