Cheers mate....hoping he would be quicker, a lot quicker.
I think you guys are forgetting that Young is actually quite fast, he just doesn't show his full speed much.

It's more important that he is effective when he has the ball IMO, Hazards top speed isn't any better than Depay but he accelerates well with the ball.

The 19-goal top scorer in the Eredivisie has also attracted the attention of Manchester City while PSV said Tottenham made a €20 million bidfor Depay last summer. And PSV director Marcel Brands said there is interest from some of the world's leading clubs in Depay as he accepts that the forward is set to go.

Brands told ANP: "The chances are very high that he leaves. If you see what clubs are enquiring about him, they really are the best in Europe.

"When I talk for PSV I would say he is not ready and should continue here for another year. But I am realistic and if I worked at a big European club, I'd buy him without question.

"With a heavy heart [we would let him go], because a great player and a great guy leaves. But we are also proud that a boy from the academy is going to make such a step."

Depay, who scored twice at last year's World Cup, has chipped in with 47 goals in 118 games for PSV and can play anywhere in the forward line.

Meanwhile Eljero Elia should know his role and shut his mouth...

But Southampton loanee Eljero Elia insists his compatriot must gain more experience at PSV before finding a new club.

He told Voetbal International: "I think it will be best for him to stay at Eindhoven."

"My feeling is he should play in the Champions League for PSV then he would have the experience of playing at the highest level in his locker before the moves at 22.

"PSV don't need the money and I feel Memphis doesn't need it as he signed a nice contract recently."

On the speed debate, he's fast but doesn't have the acceleration off the mark that makes Hazard, Di Maria and Sanchez so dangerous.

Yesterdays match. 2:50 might give an idea of how quick he is.

Mirror saying we've beaten Liverpool to him and will match the asking price.

I've decided Depay isn't the new Robben now. He's the new Henry.

I'll be astonished if he's not here. The only thing stopping it is signing Bale. Depay will be here next season....

Depay will be here next season, Bale will still be at Madrid next season but after that he'll be out.

Well nobody likes players who run at you with pace, so he is a real danger. He is good but with a bit a developing to do. LvG could just be the man to do that.

This is my problem, I'm not convinced he does 'run at you with pace'. His dribbling is more trickery from a standing position, in the same way a skillful central, midfielder would dribble. His speed is without the ball in my opinion.

He is certainly no 'new Robben' as some have mentioned.

I won't complain if we sign him but IMO he should stay at PSV for another year.
That may happen but only if we'll secure deal of a wing powerhouse like Bale or player close to that impact.

To be honest Cocu already called it... This summer he may leave to a club that will raise his ambitions and skills.

Firstly because I don’t know where he would fit in. He seems like the perfect player for 4-3-3 as left attacker, and that’s how we will be playing next year I imagine. Di Maria/Young on the left wing (maybe Angel will go back to midfield but I doubt that) and Mata/Januzaj on the right. He might take Young place but I don’t think that’s happening after this season, IMO he has contributed quite a lot to our play recently.

Secondly I think a lot of people think he will be an immediate success because of his goal tally. He seems to be too chaotic for the EPL to me, therefore I would give him another year to develop at PSV. He seems like a talent though, maybe we could buy him and loan back (or somewhere else).

reminds me of Nani

They're not really compareable. Memphis does way less tricks and is much more direct. Also he's not as good in small spaces, he's more effective with some space in front of him. A real team player too, doesn't go for the hard route as often. More of a goal threat than an assist giver.

Have we signed him yet? I'm bored of waiting for the announcement already.

No news from Holland yet. It's been quiet since Thijs Sleger tweeted we've shown serious interest and that his surroundings all suggest he's coming. The director of PSV said 'topclubs from the world' have shown interest without naming any.

I have a (biased) theory though: van Gaal isn't going to leave deals late this year, he's working hard behind the scenes to get everything done before preseason I assume. Memphis can become champion with PSV this weekend with nothing left to play for afterwards (except maintaining his topscorer status), my heart is hoping the deal will be anounced after this weekend (to not anger the PSV fans, except me, too much).

I'm still 100% certain that when given the option he will choose for van Gaal, some doubt is starting to creep in wether he still wants him though with Mata doing so well on the RW when we've still got Lingard, Januzaj and Di Maria aswell :nervous:

It's been reported that we will try to complete business early this summer and it obviously makes sense if possible. The amount of time it took the current squad to adapt to the philosophy shows the longer a player has under LVG's training the better.

Why would it be announced before the window opens though? Seems completely pointless to me. More likely it'll be wrapped up shortly after the window opens imo.

Thanks @NL Max - I have suspected that there were some "movements" behind the scenes while time passes and confirms A) PSV's title and B) our CL prospects. Nothing official till those matters are finalised of course.

I assume B) in particular influences payment structure of transfer fee and the wages and bonuses combo.

Well that's where the biased part kicks in. PSV confirmed he's leaving so no fan is counting on him to be in Eindhoven next season, if he's champion it's a good time to announce it since he then will have completed his goal he set himself before the season (along with wanting to be topscorer, which he already is by 3 goals). So why leave it late to torture fans like me who want it to happen? :D

If it happens later it'll be fine with me aswell, but since Liverpool are also very interested I want the deal to be announced ASAP.

Was he involved in any football over 2013 summer?

If assuming we wrap it up early, he could be set for 2 years of short end of season breaks in a crucial period of development given his age and frame.

It makes sense to wrap this one up as early as possible especially ahead of a prospective first major pre-season tour for him.

Yea I do see what you meant by the bias part now! Wishful thinking I think there mate but you never know :D

What's the bold part referring to? I read a quote from some Eindhoven official along the lines of they were aware it was a real possibility. They've actually said he's definitely off now?

PSV confirmed they will accept offers above 22m (price reported by PSV scout Thijs Slegers) since Dutch clubs can't say no to this amount of money, it's how they continue to exist - by selling. They managed to hold onto him last summer (Tottenham offered 20m Euro) because it was his first season when he wasn't even a starter in the XI at the start of the season. They convinced him that it was better to stay, become champion so he wouldn't end up as a nobody if he failed at the next club, like so many have from the Eredivisie. He agreed to stay 1 more year, signed a new contract and he wanted to become champion and topscorer before he left. This will be a matter of time.

PSV haven't said it's 100% certain he'll leave since they'd like to keep him ofcourse, but they've got a gentlemans agreement to sell if the price is right (22m pound, 30m Euro). They can't say he's off because they don't have an agreement yet, but everyone in Holland (and at PSV) know he's leaving. The director said: 'we'd like to keep him, but if I worked for a bigger club I'd buy him aswell. He's ready for the next step.' The coach of PSV, Cocu echo'd this. He's too good for the league, it's his first full year and he's bossing it while improving his game massively. He will only stay if no clubs are willing to pay 22m, which won't happen.

Not that I know of, unless the u21 competition was at that time (where Spain trashed Holland if I remember correctly). He wasn't a regular started untill halfway of last season though, this is his first full season in his carreer. He played in the youth PSV team before this. PSV have been carefull with him, and he's a gym fanatic so I don't think we'll need to worry about it too much.

If van Gaal thinks he needs an extended break, he will get one - just like he did with van Persie. You won't play if you're fully fit under him.

Thanks @NL Max that's interesting. I'm surprised they are so vocal and open about it all. Especially the scout mentioning a specific figure! I suppose that's the difference in leagues for you.

Thijs Slegers is the dedicated PSV reporter and has got good sources, he works for Voetbal International - a trusted Dutch football magazine. He's reliable so the fans can get to know alot about the club's behind the scenes. Alot of people thought Memphis would already leave after the WC, it was a surprise he didn't. PSV have been great this season and it became quickly obvious they were going to be champion if they didn't feck it up massively, which they didn't. Memphis was putting in amazing performances and became better and better. Topscorer in his first season, 19 goals (PSV's striker, 2nd on the list only got 16) for a winger is a terrific record.

Since Dutch clubs can't have debt at all (or they'll go bankrupt and get relegated) our league becomes younger each year, we give game time to youngsters (combined with some experience) to sell them later on. Memphis Depay is the biggest talent in the league right now so it's obvious he's going to leave, PSV couldn't deny this with the interest from United, Tottenham and Liverpool.

It's nice that they're this open, I also know Wijnaldum is leaving if a good offer comes in, whilst Willems (fantastic leftback talent) will most likely stay. No uncertainty in our transfer window. No muppetry either as it's also known they're looking at Corona/Pereira/Gudelj to replace them 2 (wether they'll succeed to get them is a different question).
