I was talking about Carvajal btw, I agree about Depay, I'm not too worried about that.
If I remember correctly LVG said at the beginning of his work here that there is special relationship between clubs like United and Real. Di Maria's monster deal was quite positive indication of that.

We may see someone joining from Madrid as well, especially with their way of doing things and how they treat some of their players. So far Carvajal would be a bit more ambitious signing than Clyne and if Rafael would stay we would have a flank secured for years.

It's surely not impossible. They already showed how much Danillo is important for them by already securing the whole thing in such rush. It may mean a lot to think about for Carvajal and his future there.

RM getting Danilo in, maybe something can be done. Much rather we overspent on him, than siged Clyne if at all possible.
I think it is just an another Marcelo-Coentrao case. They spending 30m for a player which isn't as good as the player they have in that position. Carvajal IMO might just be the best RB in the world.

Could this special relationship possibly be Madrid taking all of our best players?

They're not selling Carvajal, they'd signed top class back ups before and it meant nothing. Madrid can go and spend €30m on a second choice right back.

You have no idea what they might do. Losing him makes more sense than losing Bale or Modric to finance a Pogba deal!

They don't need to sell anyone to buy Pogba. They're Real Madrid, it's silly to think they'll be reliant on €20m they'd get for Carvajal to buy anyone. They could buy Pogba, De Gea and De Bruyne and laugh about it.

Carvajal is possibly the best right back in the world. Why would they sell him and keep Arbeloa?

I agree that Carvahal is that good. How good is this danilo chap? No team has room foe two top right backs. One will eventually go if they're both very good, no matter what madrid want. Carvahal is too good to be second choice for sure. No idea if danillo is.

Real Madrid play 60 games a season sometimes, both will have time to play. They might try to adapt one of them into a different role. Crucial thing though is they're both very young (Carvajal is 23 this year, Danilo 24) which is a bit of a worry.

Carvajal deserves to play by the virtue of being born on the best day in universe, January 11.

Every big team plays a lot. I dont think once he's proven himself to be possible the best right back albiey over a short period, Carvahal would be happy playing 30 games next season. That's very low at a big club in every competition. Its a number injury hit players get to. like I said it depends on how good danilo.

Danilo's supposed to be very good. I've not seen much and apparently Alex Sandro on the other flank is a better player so who knows. I think it'll be more like Carvajal plays 40 and Danilo plays 20, or Carvajal plays important games plus all Champions League games while Danilo plays against smaller teams in the league and Copa del Rey. They must have something on mind and it cannot possibly involve selling Carvajal.

Madrid post high revenues but their operating costs are sky high, they're not this bottomless pit of money.
Plus they're about to spend some serious money on their stadium, a lot of their future revenue is already tied up

It's a both way thing, now as the transfer fair play regulations are allowing us to buy their players almost without a limit.

The fact that we've been in constant contact with them from about 10 years gives us an advantage and we should exploit that in every bit for obvious reasons.

Rough translation from what Thijs Slegers (official PSV journalist) has said today:

'Cocu has accepted Memphis (and Wijnaldum) are very likely to leave, the club won't stand in the way of a transfer. This probably means there is serious interest from bigger clubs and Cocu thinks he's ready to move on. Thijs said that he will likely be available for 30m Euro.'

£22million? Great deal.

Why are people convinced this guy is coming to us btw? Is it just because LVG managed him with the national team?

Of the English clubs i think we're way out in front, but if Bayern or Real come in for him i really don't think LvG is going to make up the difference, unless we offer him way over the odds wages wise. If we make the CL and manage to avoid the big 3 in competing for his signature, i think he's ours.

While it's naive to suggest that United will be his only destination, there are to many elements to suggest its quite likely to happen. Van Gaal brought him at the national squad, gave him confidence and he has been scoring goals for fun ever since.

Question is why don't they want him?

Barca have Neymar, Messi and Suarez. Madrid have Ronaldo, Bale, Isco and Rodriguez. Bayern have Robben, Ribery, Gotze and Muller. These teams simply do not need a player like Depay like we do, and they're often happier to buy players that are already the finished product or close to it. Depay probably isn't that yet and we'll hopefully get a good deal because he's still developing

He had attitude problems in the past. Van Gaal brought him to the national team and this helped him. Van Gaal is a man who cares alot about the mental state of his footballers, they have a great relationship. After this he got over his problems, I'm sure van Gaal was a part of that.

He favorited 2 tweets which linked him to us.

His close contacts all suggest he's coming - Source: Voetbal International, a 100% trusted Dutch football website. They've got their own dedicated PSV journo, who also said we've shown serious interest.

He's money driven. He used to show off alot, although he doesn't do this anymore I'm sure it's a big factor for him.

He doesn't want to go to a midtable team, only to a top team. He confirmed this himself.

He's the biggest Dutch attacking talent there is at the moment.

EDIT: PSV confirmed he's leaving. They're willing to agree to a transfer.

They may well do. But i don't think them not wanting him is indicative of him not being good enough for us.

Thats right. When has that ever been the case ? Madrid is the standard ( i would like to put United in that list aswell) in terms of the ultimate achievement, but that should not be confused with the criteria for quality. You can also state the opposite. How often have we seen Madrid signing players who failed to make an impact ? How often have we seen players actually performing better after they had been released by Madrid ? Sneider and Robben as my favorite examples since im dutch.

So who said we aren't? You've just named Isco and Gotze.. There not the finished product. Why aren't they looking at him to replace Ribery or Ronaldo(obvs not straight away).

I'm not assuming that he can't but surely.. Big talents generate this interest regardless who is on their books.

Then we should do it right now!! Why wait 2-3 months?? Bayern has bought players before seasons ends.

there is no need for Depay. He isnt top class, why should they buy him? He cant get ahead of his competition, see Afellay a few years ago.

Afellay was starting to get into Barca's XI untill he got injured. He couldn't walk for a year, picked up another injury and was loaned multiple times but that didn't work out. Bit of a weird comparison. If Memphis picks up a carreer threatening injury here he indeed will struggle to get ahead of his competition.

I'm sure there's something going on behind the scenes. Van Gaal praised himself after we bought Valdes so fast, he will want to do that again. There will be no mocking around this transfer window.

Yep. I'm looking forward to seeing some progression this summer, where we know what we want and go after it. It hasn't happened since we bought Van Persie.

I would say they're further along than Depay is and I bet he will cost less than either of those players did. The point is that these teams already have a very strong mix of talented attacking players, young and old. They will obviously all take interest in the most talented players going, but they can't buy them all and will have to pass on a lot of them. I don't see where Depay fits in those teams unless it's on the bench

He will be expensive. Chelsea/PSG could easily be looking to upgrade their RW, and City, Arsenal and Liverpool would improve massively with him in the team too. The good thing is that Madrid have Ronaldo/Bale, Bayern have Robben/Ribery and Barcelona has Messi and Neymar. So I think we have a great chance at getting him even if he will cost quite a bit I would imagine.

There just aren't many dribbling wingers these days so he's certainly unique in that sense. I think whoever signs him will improve their team massively.

He's a left winger, isn't that great on the right (hasn't played there for ages since he likes to cut inside). Rumoured price for him from PSV journalist: 30m Euro, or 22m. That's not too bad. If given the choice, he will choose for van Gaal anyways.

Really doubt he'd go for that price, it would be a steal for whoever got him. He's still a great option for Arsenal, City, Liverpool, United, PSG etc. I can imagine that 30 mill euro is what PSV considers the starting price, then if there are more than one team in the race they'll go for the highest bidder.

I think that this 'everyone would improve with him' is nonsense, yes I think WE would, but not every top club would, it would be an agents dream if every top club came in for him and thats why we will hear all sorts of rumours, but as i read it, 1/ He is leaving PSV, 2/ There is mutual respect between him & LVG, 3/ He would be a regular starter for us, 4/ We can offer CL football ? 5/ We pay the wages he would be seeking .........................it's on.

Remember that Strootman is gone, for 17m, in the Eredivisie or the Ligue 1, 30m are almost impossible to refuse.

Yup, like I said I believe it is what PSV has set as the starting bid. They wouldn't sell him for less even if just one club is interested. If two clubs are interested they are going to let them bid rather than just take the first 30m bid.

That price was reported today by PSV journalist Thijs Slegers, he's 100% reliable when it comes to PSV. If a bidding war started he would obviously cost more, but the player always has the decision to choose us. I mentioned before why he'd pick us and we could match any offer a different club makes.

Note: PSV sold Strootman (box-to-box players aren't cheap) for 20m Euro including add-ons. Dutch clubs can't say no to this amount of money, and PSV already said they're going to sell him.
