That is definitely not true anyway.

Happy if we do sign this fella.

Not saying I don't think Depay is a good player, just saying that its a little hyperbolic to say that he has more to his game than Ronaldo as the same age. 2006 was Ronaldo's coming out party, he was great in the World Cup and was already voted in the top 20 for the Ballon d'Or and the FIFA World Player of the Year twice, and by the time he was 22 he was voted second for the same awards. It was in his 21st year that he solidified himself as one of the best in the world.

Second player in the last week or so to favourtie a tweet about us buying them. That would be the left side of the front 3 sorted, now we just need Dybala, Vietto or Fekir for the right with Rooney as the #9 and our front 3 is set! :)

Depay just favorited this tweet:

Twitter/Instagram strikes again. He's as good as ours

That's my number 1 target sorted. Now I'll have to find someone else to harp on about during the summer.

Don't rate him. Granted, I haven't watched a lot of him but even the youtube videos aren't very convincing and judging by what some have been saying, he's becoming more of a goalscorer than a winger which is what we need.

Hope he proves me wrong though.

How about? No.

I have mentioned somewhere before in this thread, haven't seen anything to suggest that he'll become a special player. I don't think he has the attributes to reach top level.

That's a hilarious thing to say considering how many terrific players Spurs have had in the last few years

Not anymore ridiculous than saying Spurs have had 'many' terrific players in the last few years. Modric and Bale, and that's it.

As for my comment, I don't see a player who woud achieve much more than a Chadli or a Mirallas. I don't consider his level to be higher than those players. I would gracefully accept that I was wrong if he turns out to be a top player.

Although, it can be debated what is our level anymore. Young, Blind and Rojo are considered great players for us these days. Fellaini is a regular in the team. Who the feck knows.

In the last decade Spurs have had Bale, Modric, Berba, Vdv, Eriksen, Lloris etc. It's silly to put a player down by saying that he is not good enough for us and just Spurs level

I don't consider half of those players top level. Those who were, Modric and Bale, left for greener pastures. Others if they are, will leave soon enough.

Bud, when someone says 'Everton or Spurs level', they mean players in general who are good enough for a team which remains on the fringes of top 4 but do not have the attritubutes or the quality to be regulars for a consistent top 4 team or a title challenger. It is not judged by some of the best players they have had in the last decade.

Depay is definitely good enough to play for us, Everton level? Get out. Everton are in the bottom half of the table aren't they?

He's 21, plays in a position er desperately need and his attributes very few players in our squad have. On top of that, he has shown improvement every season so far and a willingness to improve. He has that something inside him, that drive to be the best. The intangibles are important.
Also, the price mentioned is a great price in today's market and he plays in a system similar yo what Van Gaal will want, I imagine, and he plays in an exciting, physically and technically sound league. All promising signs for me.

I don't know much about social media. But what does it actually mean when he favourited that tweet?
It means he saw the tweet and liked it. People favourite for different reasons, but a footballer to favourite transfer related news is probably a positive sign.

Still not massively convinced by him yet. Tbh i'm not sure what he would bring to the table that Nani cannot for free, Both seemingly inconsistent but capable of great moments. Suppose this will all depend on whether LVG will still be here, Big IF at the moment.

He would probably offer a few more goals than Nani. We should be looking at bringing both in for next year though - basically, two good players for the price of one. Also, I reckon Depay would learn a few more tricks from Nani. Di Maria would also benefit by working off Nani on his diagonal cross cutting runs towards the box. These are the things we lack in the final third.

He is more direct than Nani and does the simple things better. He is more effective in my opinion and is a rocket too.

yes - but he is young so has the opportunity to develop the consistency that nani never quite managed.
Personally I would expect him to struggle in his first season adapting to a new and more physical league and in truth I would rather see adnan getting game time to aid his development but Id be happy if he signed initially more as a squad player to develop rather than people expecting him to instantly be the new giggs/ronaldo hybrid

People need to seriously watch the next PSV game. Not just the highlights. He's not just a flair player capable of great moments, he's real team player too. He's fast and direct, has a great passing range, is very strong for someone his size, holds the ball up very when needed and has one hell of shot on him. The lack of end product and decision making has improved this year and is ready for a big step up. A few years ago he would have been described as a "Manchester United Player". Lets sign him up.

His pace with Sterling and a healthy Sturridge? I would
Sturridge wouldn't stay fit long enough for them to gel. We'll take Sterling as well as Depay for that reason.

Sometimes transfers like these work out, sometimes they dont. Depay has all the attributes to be a success here.

True. I find the best approach with transfer is to not get excited until they actually play for us in a way that elicits excitement.

I've always had a soft spot for Nani but I would concede that inconsistency at 21 is a whole lot different to inconsistency at 28. Nani is unlikely to change, Depay might.

Also i really dont think there are any question marks hanging over LVG from the board's point of view.
