Memphis Depay | PSV confirm deal with Man Utd is agreed!

Wasn't quite his day today in the sharp end, but you can see his potential and his threat in behind defence is something we lack massively.

He was absolutely gutted not to score, which is a trait I love to see!

If this is him having a bad game we could certainly do a lot worse.

Spot on, quite a crazy game but the desire was always there from him to influence the game. He's a dusty gem that needs very little polishing and he'd slot right in.

Seems like an obvious signing. We need a quality wide man that can score a goal. Given his age, his numbers at PSV, relative affordability and the fact he has already played under our manager for the national side it makes a lot of sense. Almost too much sense, so it's not happening.

Haha yeah let's wait till he scores against us for Tottenham and pay 4x next summer.

According to reports Pochettino was present in Alkmaar on Friday night to watch Depay.

 No expense spared!

Edit: Obviously not good enough if someone spotted him. :p

I guess not. The report comes from the Daily Mirror, who also claim that "Depay is ready to join Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen who have swapped Dutch football for White Hart Lane"

How do you see Spurs line up if he goes there?

Eriksen moving to #10 with Depay on one side and Lamela on the other?

I'd fancy our chances to sign him if it were us and Tottenham in for him what with the Van Gaal connections.

Wouldn't be a surprise. If we're in for him we'll get him, Poch will probably go back to Southampton for Jay Rodriguez instead.

Yeah, I guess so. But whilst Poch probably was at the game on Friday to watch Depay, I don't take seriously the report that Depay is favouring a move to Spurs. The summer is a long way away and no doubt he'll have several clubs after him.

The fee is an issue, also. Would Spurs pay the apparent £20(+)m it'll cost to get him? I feel confident we'll get him.

I think we've got start adjusting our mind sets to accepting that £20 million+ fees aren't going to be a big deal from now on. If Everton can spend £28 million on a player before the new TV deal, then £20 million+ deals are going to become common fairly place now the new deal has been struck and clubs know what they will be getting. Clubs like Tottenham, who could routinely buy players over £15 million and have done for years, will now be doing the same for players over £20 million.

I'm pretty sure with Bale it was a case of we wouldn't pay the fee despite being small. At any rate the biggest difference here is obviously LvG's relationship with Memphis.

Yeah but that will only drive up inflation in the long run. If Spurs et al can spend 20m+ as a matter of routine, you'll see us and the likes of Arsenal spending 40m-50m+. Plus we can pay the sort of wages that Tottenham just can't.

No, the biggest difference is money. United and Spurs operate in different leagues with regards to finances.

Second is the chance of silverware and the prestige of playing for a household name the world over.

10 years ago I would say you would be mad to choose Spurs over United - today not so much.

It's stupid to imagine that Spurs have no chance of signing Depay, when far bigger names than him have chosen Spurs over the years.

But in any case, I see Bayern Munich as his most likely destination.

Not in the last 25 years. Plus its a very small amount before that-which isnt really relevant.

Anyway your plans for him will go out the window when you sack your manager.

Yes, as did Ronaldo ... who left to go to the same club.

United presently and in the last ten years will not beat Real to a player if both are interested.

I absolutely think Spurs have a chance of signing Depay - but only if their isn't interest from United.

This isn't anythjng outlandish. Surely you recognise this also??

There may be odd exceptions to this but the general rule prevails.

Lloris, Modric and Van der Vaart all say Hi.

PS. I'm willing to bet that Looney Van Gaal gets the bullet before Pochettino.

We were never in a competition to sign any of those with Spurs.

Poch will be sacked when you dont make top 4. He hasn't improve you lot at all. 47 points you had after 25 games last season. 4 less this season.

No, I don't recognise this. There are many others factors besides the ones you've cited, including London as location rather than Manchester, the player's views on their chances to improve as a player, their views on chances to establish themselves in the first XI, the perceived playing style of the club and so on.

Other players that signed for Spurs in preference to United have already been cited. And besides, it's not as if Depay is some established galactico.

Again, I'm willing to bet that Poch won't be sacked if we don't make top 4. That's two bets I've offered now.

Two. Gaaza from 26 years ago and a 17 year old kid from Southampton.

In this specific instance the only thing you have over us is the London aspect and Memphis seems like a character who's football comes before what glamour spots he can hit on a night.

Bale says "Hi".
He was a 16 year old who knew he wasn't going to get ahead of Evra at left back or Ronaldo on the wing. It was a wise career move. Depay would play here which makes it irrelevant to point out Bale as an example.

No one would pick Spurs ahead of United if they were to have the same role at both.

No. We also have a better recent track-record of developing and/or bringing young players into the first XI, we have better training facilities - as good as any in the world and better than most - and we have a manager who is more willing to give young players the nod ahead of established names where merited.

Oh good, another thread ruined by Glaston and people continuously replying to him.
