Memphis Depay | Corinthians player

Glad that Memphis of all players is bossing it in Spain.

Shows the quality I always thought of the "rest of la liga".

Harsh, he’s a miles better player than he was when he left here. And even in his United spell, he played a couple of good games up top that hinted at that being his best position.
Watford away I remember him looking very promising there.

He’s likely still a terrible left forward/winger.

I’m happy for the lad, he’s tried to be super respectful to United since he left yet our twatty fans seem to despise the bloke. We don’t make it easy, people are on Sancho’s back already after one fecking game where the team played like shite.

He is such an un Barca player but I'm pleased for him, which really shows the fall of Barca of how underwhelming their squad is now, from the likes of Iniesta, Xavi, Messi to now Depay being one of their standout players.

I reckon he's a bit of a bellend, but it has nothing to do with how he performed for us.

Nice to see him doing well there. Can’t be easy in the immediate aftermath of Messi leaving. Would love to see him play for us again.

What a reaction this is.. Imagine living your life in such sourness haha..

Lets say - for the sake or argument - you áre right and Memphis doing well at Barca at 27 cause he was underwhelming in the PL when he was 21 does indeed show La Liga is crap.. Why would that be something you are 'glad' about?

Respect to the player for improving and becoming a better player. I have not followed him but it seems he put in a lot of work.

Because I believe that the EPL is the most competitive league there is and people overvalue things that happen in alot of leagues like La Liga and Bundesliga.

Just look at the managers in the last decade, Pep, Klopp, Tuchel, Ranieri, Conte, Benitez, Mourinho, Mancini, Brendan Rodgers, Ancelotti who managed Everton  and is now managing Real Madrid.. I could go on but cba.

PL is the most competitive but it’s also true that I’ve played in more competitive Saturday leagues.

Why would you include Brentan though

He obviously won't reach the heights of Messi or prime Ronaldinho, but he could be their new Eto'o or Suárez: a motivated no-nonsense forward constantly trying to score; a strong finisher.

As I've said in LaLiga post, if he gels with Dembele and Fati (and Pedri and De Jong assisting) Barcelona's attack will be fearsome.

Nah, he's not as good as Suarez was at Barca. Purely on a skill level he is, but he can't seem to shake the urge to go for the most difficult play in almost every situation and when things don't go his way in a match he can drop to an insanely low level. Having said that, I would never have imagined a few years back that Griezman and Memphis would be teammates and he would make Griezman look shite.

All of these managers bar Rodgers developed into the managers they are at leagues other than the EPL. This seems to suggest that the only thing the EPL has that other leagues don't have is money (which everyone already knew).

But its important for your joy that the PL is stronger than La Liga and Serie A? This is somekind of nationalism?

Could say the same for the support of Memphis to be honest.
The other poster isn't happy because they see someone else do worse though. You're glad because you're convinced Memphis is showing that La Liga is poor. That does sound pretty bitter.

Fair enough.

There was a time when the PL only had 2 competitive teams (arsenal & United). This turned to 3 teams once Chelsea joined that brigade back over a decade and a half ago.

Now we have City, United, Liverpool, Chelsea competing for leagues with teams like Arsenal, Tottenham, Leicester (won't even include teams like Everton or West Ham who might compete for an europa Cup once in a while) easily capable of influencing the outcome.

I got nothing against memphis & happy that he is doing well; yet the league is no where as competitive league and I can sleep at night a bit better knowing that Memphis could be a potential top scorer and then hope that people start calling him this amazing player aswell.

Do you mean competitive internationally, in the sense that La Liga clubs are now less likely to compete for European prices? Cause with Barcelona and Real Madrid taking some steps back, inside La Liga, things are arguably more competitive now than they've been for a long time. But I get why someone who is into English football would like the former.

Good for Memphis if he tears up the La Liga.

I'll always admire more those players who are willing to try out other leagues or teams rather than being contented sitting out on the bench at United.

Moronic take. I think PL is the best league in the world right now (after a dip a few years ago) but very rarely have their title races been interesting in recent times outside of 2019.

La liga had a 4 horse race going into the final day while city or Liverpool wrap up the league months before it ends outside of a season here or there.

Same la liga that has been knocking out united for years. Well done

This is particularly the reason why. Same La Liga that has been spanking getafe for 10 months and come to face the English leagues who are absolutely drained out of energy.

If you had watched the match vs Wolves then you can see the difference in what Varane has to go through vs an average team in England vs an Average team in Spain.

Let me guess, French League is competitive too because they knocked some teams out too

Getafe is a poor example, they're an absolute shithouse team to play against. Ask Ajax.

Honestly, money to quality ratio the pl should be much further ahead than it is. A newly promoted team gets more transfer budget than the entire Dutch league combined.

So this is basically just an excuse right, which you can throw in if the direct head-2-heads dont fall your way...

I could then also argue on the other hand that the average amount of players a PL team has in their main squad compared to Spanish sides is not comparable.. Unlike many English sides, Spanish sides have much less luxury to rest/rotate players to keep them fresh for the important matches..

But I get it.. If I would actually also loose sleep over stuff like the competitiveness of La Liga vs the PL (or in my case the Eredivisie vs Jupiler Pro League for example), I would also argue everything in the direction that gives me good dreams..

Why are people still making these excuses despite prem clubs finally doing well again in the CL? There's no drained nonsense going on, clubs are either great or not as seen by prem clubs winning the thing in recent years.

I dont believe they are drained. They train and are prepared for it. I do admit that Sancho for example will have to get used to the intensity. Wolves gave him no room to breath. Verane will have to get used to lesser sides having a go more times but I doubt it drains them to that extent to give anyone else an advantage.

I think he means that there are more games that can effect the outcome of the key battles. e.g. if PSG played the the premier league they would probably have a better chance of winning the CL most seasons. They would get more accustomed to playing more challenging games. City x2, Utd x2, Chelsea x2, Liverpool x 2, Leicester x2, Spurs x 2, that's 12 challenges potentially.

Most of us don't rate him because he was playing for Lyon and act like a global rap star. Won't go well if he still doing that at Carrington.

Credit to him for the good start in La Liga.

He hasn’t been at Carrington for years. It was obvious he developed into a top talent when he was at Lyon. You shouldn’t have to wait for a player to leave France to have an opinion on whether he is good or not.

He's class, I still think we misused him. Less trickery and more "directness" has definitely improved him game. We should had taken the buy back option, even though I'm not sure we would have accepted.

No sir Pogue, I meant if he stayed on at United, he might be a rap wannabe + footballer. It won't go well with me.

Pogba dances, and it's a problem. Rap and music videos? United player? Imagine the trolls and memes.

He still need to prove himself at Barca, early days but he has to deliver to be considered as some the world's best.

Such a different player from the one we saw at Utd. So much better now.
