Have you watched a PPV event this way before? Anyone expecting to watch the fight that way will be in for a rude shock

The short answer is yes and in very good quality. Someone that rhymes with Blob Deed and runs very HQ river will have it for example.

Why do you think PPV is more difficult to be rivered?

Well Showtime and HBO have already sued several pirate websites....before the event has even taken place! Sites are being taken down. I wouldn't bet on watching it this way without a plan B.

Are you aware that there is a world outside of America?

This is in no way different to any of the other rivered weekly events.

You can't sue someone who you can't find or take down someone doing it over p2p.

Well. Good luck to those going that route. Its free in some countries like Mexico so it'll probably find its way out there one way or the other.

Its also free in most of eastern Europe, in fact I think the only people paying extra for PPV are those in Western Europe and US/Canada.

Here's a list of channels showing it:

I'm still amazed that PPV is a viable funding strategy in the age of internet streams.

People are still more than willing to pay for big fights. I know several people who have dropped a $100 for this without a second's hesitation.

It's €25 here and I'm seriously considering going for it, if you watch it with a couple of mates it's only like €5 per person. I don't want to be relying on a decent enough stream for such a huge event like this.

€5 each for the kinda fight that comes along maybe once in every 20 years? Go for it, mate. It's the kinda fight you'll be able to say you saw live in 30 years time :)

Even the best streams can sometimes lag and drop out now and again, no way I'd be happy relying on that for an event like this.

You'd also expect the usual services (sopcast, acestream etc) will be monitored extra vigilantly tonight, so I wouldn't be surprised if many are pulled altogether.

Sure. Ive also read that sugar Ray Robinson is considered to be the best.

But I find it interesting. I mean can someone be considered the greatest if he would be beaten by someone else who was stronger? The greatest should be the greatest right, rather than just in his division.

Not really. It would be reductive to the art of boxing if you worked like that. I mean Rigondeaux is probably the most skilled fighter in the game but would lose against a heavyweight like Tyson Fury. To consider Fury a greater fighter than Rigondeaux, well, I think that I need to take a bath!

This is the first time I've bought a PPV. And I don't have that much of an interest in boxing.

It's sad when you hear women on the train talking about how Floyd will beat Mayweather though.

Those prices are ridiculous, who on earth can afford such tickets :wenger: I wonder if there'll be a lot of genuine boxing fans inside the arena. Of course Dan fecking Bilzerian will be there as well.

That's why the fact Sky don't have an online PPV option is totally stupid. I'd happily pay for the fight to avoid any viewing problems, I'm a Sky customer too but will have to make do with a stream because I won't be home for it. Surely it would be more profitable to have online PPV too, strange that they haven't tapped into that.

Yea, agreed.

Why can't they fix a time?

Undercard fights might last 12 rounds or 12 seconds. They can't keep the crowd waiting for nearly an hour if there's a round one KO. There's also the possibility of injury, and no doubt, ridiculous walk ins.

You are 100% right but to the casual fan, the Heavyweight fights generally get more of a buzz. It's the history of the division with household names like Ali and Tyson, along with the spectacle of two giants fighting it out. It's just the way it is, but is purely a view that is likely held by casual fans.

In reality the Heavyweight division doesn't feature many supremely talented fighters nowadays, whereas there are many in the lighter divisions. I think you need to follow and understand boxing to appreciate this.

I'm a casual fan, and the heavyweight division has been shit for years.

So if you're going to bet on something, are Mayweather on points at 1.80 and/or Pacquiao in Round 1-3 at 21.00 a fair bet or are the chances of the latter happening too small?

It's been poor for a while agreed and the other divisions have got stronger and the bigger names tend to come from them (the proof being this fight is the most anticipated fight of the last 10 years easily) but people always seem to clamour for a new heavyweight rebirth anytime there's any slight chance of a boxer coming through. Wilder in the US, Joshua and to an extent Tyson Fury in the UK being examples of it.

I personally prefer smaller fighters but traditionally the heavyweight division was the "box office" division of boxing.

It was a bit of a generalization but I think it's true, especially in the UK. Most people I speak to will only take interest when it's David Haye or, increasingly, Anthony Joshua.

I couldn't stand David Haye... "Wlad's scared. Wlad's dodging me."

A few months and 12 rounds later.

"LOOK AT MY POORLY TOE!"

Prat.

You can't rule anything out for sure, but Floyd is unbelievably good at not getting hit and his shown that he can take a punch and recover quickly. I'd say it is therefore almost impossible that Pacquiao will finish it in 3 rounds. Mayweather on points is always the go-to bet in any of his fights.

I think Manny will try to knock him out.

Mayweather will superglue his chin to his shoulder for 12 rounds and turn it into a borefest. As always.
