Mayweather is being respectful because this is the absolute pinnacle, no need for antics. He also wants to maintain and gain a fanbase from the casual fans this fight is bring in when he leaves boxing.

Floyd looked in brilliant nick tonight to be fair. Looks a lot more ripped than the Maidana fights (or I'm imagining it?). His shoulders and neck look stronger in particular. Interesting to see if Freddie Roache's comments are on point, as he thinks Mayweather has lost power in his legs. Unofficial weigh ins tomorrow will hopefully be interesting as well, see what weights the lads are in reality.

Pacman wanted to laugh during the staredown. Mayweather got him on that one.

Pacman 'My focus in training comes from God.' When asked what he'll be doing before the big game he responded, 'relaxing, thinking of God and reading the bible'.

For all the casual and non-boxing guys out there...

This is one of the biggest fights in boxing history.

Why? Well it's simple. It's got even casual fans and the those who know nothing of it interested. When does that happen? It happens when the match is everything and more inside the ring and outside.

PACMAN vs MONEY MAYWEATHER

- The best pound for pound In-fighter of the last decade vs the best PfP Out-fighter during the same.
- Overwhelming force vs Master tactics
- Speed vs Speed
- Power vs Counter-Power
- Religious man vs Money man
- Entered public service in the Philippines vs cares about himself and earns more than anyone in the sport, ever.
- Adored by the mass vs reviled by most (for his antics, as a boxer, even I respect his insane mastery of evasion)
- Has been KO'd vs Never been KO'd (Or even punched at properly in his 47 fights! NEVER LOST A FIGHT)
- Has been through wars in the ring vs Not nearly as much (Maybe that's MM's skill! We'll know soon)
- Manny hits more often than not vs Flloyd doesn't get hit at all

- ONE SIMILARITY - They both came from nothing. Though MM's dad was a pro boxer himself and trained him at a young age they didn't have much to go around with. Pacman rose from the streets to the stables. He's the epitome of salvation. Pacman has had his own problems with infidelity and his views are heavily influenced by religion to the point he's almost a zealot on some issues.

It's an incredible match up of styles and personalities. Technically speaking, it is what the sport has been craving for a LONG time. Gone are the days of Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson. There are no Joe Frasier's or Lennox Lewis's around. One could say the Klitschko brothers are great but they've hardly had to face the kind of opposition the legends of lore have had to.

Remember Ali people? He became ever so famous for knocking out the most menacing boxer of the 60's and 70's - George Foreman! He was 40-0. No losses and a knockout artist. Ali put him down! Boom! History was created and a million dreams launched. PACMAN vs Money Mayweather is one of those fights. The sport of boxing needs this big. The anticipation has been 6 years in the making.

Do not miss this! Cheers.

Manny is always like that. He doesn't do the 'I'm a bad ass' thing. There was a stare down in the Cotto promotion when the pair of them burst out into hysterics instead of looking like they wanted to kill each other.

On his religion: it is in the past few years that he has become devout, supposedly looking for redemption from his past sins. Worth mentioning because some people seem to use his pastinfidelity to in part excuse Mayweather's violence towards women weirdly. Floyd refuses to even admit to the crimes that he has committed, which is a problem. His 'only God can judge me' line suggests that he actually doesn't think that he has done anything wrong, that there were enough mitigating factors to justify it.

To be honest, I didn't even know who mayweather was before this fight became big news.

I've heard a lot about manny pacequaio. I guess he's more famous.

From what I've read, this hasn't been the best era for boxing with Floyd mayweather not having really had enough competition to be compared to the greats, and hence his unbeaten record looking better than it is.

Question as someone who knows little about boxing: I know Ali and co were heavyweights. Is a heavyweight simply too strong for a welterweight or is it no real advantage?

A heavyweight is far too strong for a welter! Generally as a boxer gets heavier he has more natural power, in turn, as a smaller fighter moves up the weight divisions those shots hurt more and take more out of the fighter.

Perhaps the most remarkable fighter in terms of moving through the division was Sam Langford, he fought from lightweight to heavyweight and at the highest level, albeit in an era when heavyweights were smaller as men in general were.

I know mayweather isn't seriously considered right up there among the greats but doesn't him not being a heavyweight then disqualify him anyway?

Yes, Welterweights weigh 10 stone 7. Whereas heaveyweights nowadays weight as much as 18 stone.

David Haye once fought a heavyweight who weighed about 22 stones and was 7'1.

No dude, that would mean any who's not lucky enough to be 6'3 + can't be a great, which is wrong.

Some greats who were not heavyweights:

Duran
Leonard
Hagler
Hearns
Pep
Sugar Ray Robinson (GOAT)
Oscar De La Hoya
Bernard Hopkins
Shane Mosley
Etc etc

You consider these things 'pound for pound', in relative terms. A fighters greatness is judge by his achievements in his own weight classes. There is no truly definable answer as to who is the greatest because of that, there is a degree of subjectivity but Sugar Ray Robinson who competed at welterweight and middleweight is considered the greatest by many. And by a considerable distance by some.

Ali became known as 'The Greatest' by the media primarily, he had a significant role in American social history too. He is top ten of all time but not number one for most people.

Sure. Ive also read that sugar Ray Robinson is considered to be the best.

But I find it interesting. I mean can someone be considered the greatest if he would be beaten by someone else who was stronger? The greatest should be the greatest right, rather than just in his division.

Can someone tell the starting time of the fight , I am on the road and really don't want to miss it. Eu time please

Anyone know of a reliable river site I can visit to watch this fight?

Thanks

Ali is number one for me. Others in my top list are Joe Louis, Frazier, Foreman, Sugar Ray Robinson, Georgia's own Larry Holmes (most underrated), Tyson, Roy Jones jnr.

No exact set time. They'll be other bouts before it and you cant put time on the duration a fight. Saturday night the fight will start roughly around midnight or half past US eastern time...so prepare to see it around 4-5 a.m your time

Poll is closed, anyway i think Pacquiao will win this.

About to head out now and start getting on the piss in a few hours. I'll see you all tomorrow after the Mayweather masterclass

Wait, have they changed the time. Or is the match still roughly 6:00 in the morning here in the UK

Got it on PPV and a few mates are coming round, really looking forward to this! Any tips for staying awake?

Er...just stay awake. Its 5:25 where I am and im still awake. Maybe you should take an extended power nap before the fight, especially if you're going to be up early and up all day Saturday. Even a 2 hour nap before the fights start should help
