Best young CB in the world. Absolutely no problem with us pushing the boat out here. COuld be our starting CB for the next 10-15 years.

Him and Lindelof as a partnership

De Ligt is young and special, Sanchez although we thought would be great at the time was still unfortunately neither.

Yeah i was one of the few against signing Sanchez, could see the trouble coming a mile off. Whilst i think this guy would do better, it's a massive gamble. He's not the perfect CB and he's not played in the PL either. So to give him the type of money that we are is going to cause issues with other players that we have and might look foolish in a couple of years, especially if he flops.

So you don’t think De Ligt is worth this kind of investment then?

I'd never pay a 19 year old anything like that. It's insane.

He has no other options. He cant offer 'play with Messi' like Barcelona, he cant offer 'have Pep has manager' like City, offer CL football or even offer to live in a city like Paris, Madrid or London. Offering big money is a thing Manchester United can do and something to convince a player to join.

Why would you, when you arent a Manchester United fan, join Manchester United instead of joining one of the five better English clubs, PSG, Juventus, Spanish top two, Bayern or even Dortmund?

Look at other options?

So everything so far has come from Barca journos? Not sure what to make of that. Understandable though that Man Utd won’t brief journos in case it fails, but would be very nice if something came out from that side too.

I'm going to say it but we're getting fleeced by the sounds of it. All year banging on about wanting players that genuinely want to play for us and give their all and we're pushing hard for a 19 year old CB that turned down £250k p/w. Must really want to sign for us!

People are so fickle. Thought we'd have learnt after Sanchez. What's they old saying "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...".

What a thoroughly nonsense post.

For 19 yrs old? Feck that. I don't care how good he is or how good he will become, 250 for 19 yrs old is too much as well. When he turns into walking, jogging, sulking, moonwalking, dabbing fat little prick, who will buy him? I know I'm old, but still, don't like it, too much money for someone who never kicked the ball in PL. No guarante he will make it.
Or maybe, I'm too used to our spoiled, over hyped, over payed divas, so I think every player is like that.
Feck, get him Woody
How much do you think Mbappé should be paid in the current market? £60k a week? After all, he’s just a kid.

I think the challenge of helping United get back to the top and becoming an all time legend could be an appealing scenario.

That, and the fact that for any prize you win at Barcelona, all the credits go to the midget up front.
Yes that's fair. Although, at the end of his career if he's won twice as many trophies at Barcelona than he has at United then I don't think he'll complain regardless of who he played with.

Technically he wasn't wrong. He said he was very close to PSG, and he was, De Jong also confirmed it
no he said hed chosen PSG

"As French media announced days ago, we confirmed that Frenkie De Jong is going to the PSG!!! MD confirms that he has broken the pact with the FCB. Ajax and PSG profile transfer details to be closed soon"

Offering a 19 year old who sounds like he doesn’t really want to play for us £300k a week may not be the best idea.

What happens in 5 years (or 3/4) when we come to renew his contract?

This off the back of wanting to shy away from such massive transfers to avoid another Sanchez saga. Not giving De Gea the money he wants after years of brilliance?

Could get Maguire/Alderweireld much cheaper.

He’s quality, no doubt. If he favoured us over other clubs because he wanted to be part of the rebuild, believed we had a strong future I’d be happier but IF we do get him it sounds like another player that doesn’t care much about the club but wants a fat pay cheque

Although I agree with paying someone that much. Those two players (bold part) aren't cheap, as Alderweireld will only cost 25 mil but we'd have to pay him 200/250k plus he's 29 and Maguire will likely cost 70 mil () << He's not that good.

Definitely, but at the same time he could be someone we struggle to hold onto in 3-4 years time if we don’t look like competing for major trophies.

I'm trying not to get too excited but what a signing this would be. Would send a massive signal to others that are reluctant to join us.

Mbappe is a world cup winner and Baloon de whore successor to Ronaldo and Messi though.

He’s not a successor to anything until he succeeds to it, and when he was signed by PSG as a teenager and put on £290k p/w (reportedly) - he was not yet a World Cup winner. What he was though, was extraordinary and already one of the best forwards in the world as a teenager. De Ligt is not far off that as a centre half I think.

So what? Players come and go. If we get four good years out him and then he moves on, what’s the big deal with that? Not every player needs to be here for their entire career.

I know.

Woodward: Listen Sancho, we're building a new team, we've signed some players we want you to be part of it. Well we've got Maguire, some lad from the championship and some reserve from Newcastle, we might be getting one of Tottenham's cast off's as well. Waste not, want not you know?

Hello? Sancho? You there?

It would also send a similar signal that inbound players could negotiate massive wages out of us.

Don't want him... better giving the playing time to Tuanzebe and Regan Poole

This is the player we want and need, I can't even begin to explain how excited I am about the prospect of Matthijs de Ligt signing for this club. It's looking more likely to happen as well

Attackers will always get far more hype in this regard. Mbappe is a world cup winner and probably already the best striker in the business (spare one or two others). De Ligt has a bit of work to do to match that sort of profile.

In short, the notion that we shouldn’t use our financial might to attract players who otherwise wouldn’t sign.

That if a player does choose to join United on account of a superior financial package that they won’t be committed or try and have as successful a career as they would elsewhere.

Are we supposed to deliberately offer less money so we build a squad of players who only definitely want to play for the shirt? A shit squad essentially.

Referencing any other signing as an example against a certain approach is pointless.

Wonen daar ook superjoden?
Ja daar wonen superjoden!
Vinden Joden voetbal fijn?
Als ze maar voor Ajax zijn!
lalalalala

Are there super Jews living there?
Yes, super Jews are living here!
Do Jews like football?
Only if they support Ajax!
lalalalala :nervous: :nono:

What sort of chant is that

Who is the perfect CB? What good is PL experience? We've bought PL experienced players like Schneiderlin, Matic, Lukaku, Jones, and Mata. It really means nothing.

How much was Mbappe bought for and at what time in his career? After one great season for Monaco? It's the same thing just with the attacking slant changing the pricing.
