I didn’t say “he needs to spend his entire career here”. The original poster that I quoted mentioned he could be our starting defender for the next 10-15 years which is true as he is a terrific young defender and the sort of leader we are desperately lacking but if we aren’t competing for the major trophies, he won’t be short of offers elsewhere if he wanted leave to win things.
Take nothing away, I’d love it if we got 3-4 excellent years out of him, similar to when Cristiano Ronaldo was here.
