I'd obviously love it if he came here, but if he doesn't then please, anyone but city.

And Liverpool. Him and Van Dijk at the back together :(

I still reckon he is Barca bound but if City step in and pay the money, it’s going to swing it in their favour unfortunately. Especially now that Kompany has announced that he is leaving.

De Ligt to City simply makes too much sense for it not to happen at this point. Barcelona don't want to pay up, City probably will. Not to mention that City under Pep have the same style as Ajax do so he wouldn't have to adjust. Plus there'd be a big chance he will win trophies with them. City are a better fit than Liverpool and us, that's for sure. We can only hope he's looking for more of a "project" ie taking us back to the top but having basically done that with Ajax already, why would he?

He wants Barca. And it depends on Barca being ready to pay what it takes to have him. If Barca are being hesitant and City offer him much more money, then City are favourites. But Barca will be forced to raise their offer. 70:30 Barca.

I don't think we've ever signed someone I've desperately wanted so I'll pretend I don't want him.

Will be at City by the end of the week.
Barca is the only option I see now,as things stand now he would move to Barca. In case they sign Griezmann they the other options comes into picture.

He would have to have a soft spot for United.

I do believe he probably favours the Premier League. Depends if Pep really wants him. City and Liverpool are flying high right now and Barca you know will be there or thereabouts over the next ten years. I'd imagine many people are telling him to go Barca much like they did to Ronaldinho.

If City aren't in for him and Liverpool can't spend that much, we might have a small chance if the Spanish league doesn't excite him much. Also he could spend 3 years at United and if it doesn't go well he can leave at 22 with lots of experience.

I'm sure his head is saying Barca and this is just about contracts. I'm happy for Barca to pay top dollar. They shouldn't be getting a bargain.

He should avoid us like a plague. We're going to be shit for the foreseeable future, so the fans and the media will make him the new scapegoat of our failures once Pogba leaves. We'll destroy the guy.

Overrated, mercenary, lazy etc.

Because he’s only 19 and wants a challenge? Maybe he buys into United history after listening to VDS?

In 5 years he will still be only 24 and could still move to a new experience

Sure. Could be. Just think the chances of it happening are very slim. With City the challenge would be winning the CL. Playing for arguably the best manager in football right now with one of the most talented squads around. He'd be playing the way he's been taught at Ajax too. Apart from all that United is a better club for him with better fans, better history etc of course

If he has any sense it would be Barca or MC and I'm not so sure that Daley blind would give him much reason to come here,
the way he was treated.

The only reason he would come here is if the club convinces him that there is a plan to bring success and he will be part of it. History doesn't matter when you can join Barcelona or Manchester City under Guardiola. The question is, can we do that? Convince players that there is a project which will lead to success?

The size of a club matters for feck sake, you would think we were Swansea with the shit that's posted on here.
Not everybody is as dead inside as we are on here.

I agree the size of the club matters, unfortunately our shit team and shit manager will also matter.

If he goes to Barca I can accept it. If he ends up at city/liverpool then I’d be super pissed off.

Chances in percentages:

Barca 70
City 20
PSG, Liverpool (combined) 9
The rest (combined) 1

If Real decide that they need him, then I'd give them 10%. Basically, it's Barca or City.

fecking hell don't say that - you'll be accused of "wanting to watch a bigger better man screw your wife" or something. :wenger:

I just really hope he doesn't go to City. Has Pep bought any Raiola clients before? They've had issues haven't they - like when Pep called Raiola out for offering Pogba to City.

Footballers seem to be easily sold on so called projects from big clubs though.
Plus the market is very thin for these players. If Barca don't pay him his worth and he doesn't want to be affiliated with what City represent (or wait out the investigstions) then where does he go? The market is do expensive to the point vast sums are already tied up in acquiring other targets that a Madrid just can't say oh he's free now? Heres 80m let's go..
Its why our spending. Is hilariously inept. Its stupidly rare for an elite club to mess up huge spending sprees to our extent but the ego of footballers and the appeal of plating for the biggest fan base in the world shouldn't see us slip too far in the pecking order. Theres already reports saying he would be open to a move but those are took easily dismissed on here as if we are indeed Swansea.

In 5 years time his reputation and value would've been destroyed irrespective of his individual performances.

For some reason it reminds me of schweinsteiger in his prime. Perfect for united, would have been brilliant, but you couldn't make a case.

Let's see him when he's 30 I guess

That's a good point. Barca are the obvious outcome. But both Raiola and Guardiola are likely to swallow their pride if Barca don't pay what it takes.

Yep I'd be surprised if he went anywhere else but City now. Well them or Barca.

And to be fair, during most of his teenage years, we haven't been the best english club. Would be odd for him to want him to come here unless he prefers money over titles in regulation with ffp

Maybe he grew up watching Jaap or Ruud? There are a lot of United fans in Holland too. Look at Denis Bergkamp, named after Denis Law. There has always been a liking for United in NL

..but also Barca
I'm quite sure it's Dennis, not Denis Bergkamp.

City can match almost any financial offer, they didn't do it with Sanchez only because Woody's offer was stupid. I very much doubt that Woody would offer 500k a week to a 19 y.o. player (who doesn't happen to be Messi or at least Mbappe). If that happens, then we might be in with a chance.

My point is our history probably has little influence given our lacklustre present.

Dutch authorities refused to accept the name Denis, because it was too similar to girl's name Denise. That's why his parents went for Dennis.

At least, that's how the legend goes.

Have you seen the state of their defences? He would walk into their teams.

That's not the point. I never said that he wouldn't get a chance to play. He has a higher chance of getting paid more if he goes from one big team to another instead of sticking with Barca for the rest of his life and that's why Raiola has been trying to convince him for us.
