I really want him but I don’t want the Riola circus that inevitably comes with his players.

Don't think Raiola is his agent. He's just an acting agent this time around because De Ligt's real agent is new to the business. Who knows. Maybe Raiola gets his big paycheck this transfer and in 3 years time his real agent and De Ligt feels they don't need Raiola anymore.

This guy fits the profile of player we need , young solid defender that has it all. Break the bank like we did with Pogba when we were out Champions League , it’s the only way.
Imagine we had VVD at our disposal, we would not be the shambles we are.

I think we can stop getting our hopes up... he's currently in Barcelona and I doubt it's for a family holiday

Few Ajax players are.

We can blow Barca out the water if we wanted to. I just hope ED doesn’t go too crazy though like Sanchez.

Do not get your hopes up. This is absolutely not happening. His agent is just doing right by him by trying to get his client more money.

Only in our wildest dreams. Lets snap up the best U-23 centerback in the championship, we can't attract anyone else

This is a possibility still lost upon many here. As if a young professional in any business doesn’t seriously take income into account when considering a job offer...

If this did come off ( big if, I know) it could be the catalyst for signing several players who may not have come to this club otherwise, as they could feel that they could be part of the re-emergence of Manchester United as a major force, although, like most other posters, I'm very sceptical when/if Ed is involved in any transfer dealings.

I fear all this United talk is just the classic case of us getting used to get Barca to pay more. We've seen this loads of times now, it's boring and heartbreaking! Would even be more terrible if he ends up at Liverpool. van Dijk & de Ligt might turn out to be one of the best centre back pairings.

With the names we're being linked to at the moment Ole has a plan in place - by from around you approach. Which we haven't really done (forgetting Sanchez) on scale.

These players take time to bed into a new country, even simple things like food or driving on the correct side of road will effect anyone. If you what good players, hungry players why not buy them locally?

if you watch MOTD, which most players do they speak about how its horrible where we are and we need to get back to our former selves. Players around us know what they are ok letting themselves in for ...

Lets be honest there's no other 19 year old CB as accomplished as this kid. Not saying he's a must buy, but he's an exceptional talent. Hungry doesn't necessarily always mean good enough but im not against it as a policy as long as quality recruits from anywhere else are still being looked at

I've actually not watched him, I was in here to see what was said about him - I just wondered if he has the skills to transfer to the EPL, it's not champions League or Dutch football.

I think he has world class potential, that's enough for any league. A kid who can handle himself against the likes of Ronaldo can play anywhere, and he has some bite to his game with the physical attributes to match.

Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up at Barcelona, Liverpool or City. Unless he really likes our club or van Der Sar does us a favor or Ajax ask for too much money out of other clubs it's very unlikely we will see him here.

Not saying he's a must buy
He is absolutely a must buy. He is so much we are missing at the moment. A world class centre back in the making, young and hungry. An absolute leader on and off the pitch. I mean did you see that video talking to the fans like he's Winston Churchill, and he is 19. At 19 I was shitting my pants even presenting in front of a classroom.

He's so Barcelona bound. He'll be their next Puyol :(

You're most likely right but if we can offer him big money, starting spot and possible captaincy in the near future. It wouldn't be a bad shout especially since he'd be our leader for next decade and a half which we've lacked.

Even if we sign him, I can see talk of Barcelona by the time his next contract talks roll around.

In the next couple of weeks. I won't be surprised to see this on the BBC website.

BREAKING NEWS: LIVERPOOL SMASH WORLD WITH THE SIGNING OF DE LIGT.

Haven’t really watched much of him. Is there any risk that he is being over-hyped due to his stature and because of the excitement around the Ajax team in general? Or is everyone on board that he is the real deal?

How’s his pace?

I think he's the real deal but I'm also 99% certain he's off to Barcelona. We're just a backup option in case they don't want to pay up.

Fabrizio Romano on Italian media is saying Barca still in pole position but Raiola wants more money for his player and Barca are playing hard ball.
Basically Raiola is using us to get a better deal.
Nothing new...so no De Light...better focus on alternatives.

This kid can basically go wherever he wants so ultimately there's 2 scenarios at play.
If he has his heart set on somewhere in particular then he will end up there, all other clubs will however be strung along by agents in order to get him the best deal.
If however he's open to options then it really comes down to our pitch (as in sales pitch not OT:)). We all know we can offer great wages but what else can we tickle his fancy with? I hope weve used our vds connection to get the inside track on his character because for everyone crying about how terribly shit it is to be a utd player  the truth is a great number of professional sportsmen thrive on a big challenge and offering him the chance to be at the fulcrum of our return to the top may well get his juices flowing.

His performances against real and juve (though not perfect) convinced me he's the real deal, he'd be a fantastic acquisition for oles revolution. Fingers crossed

Is Raiola his agent? Then we might see him come here for a couple of seasons before he starts dreaming about Barca/Real.

Isn’t he an advisor, not actually his agent. I’d be very happy if we signed him regardless of his agent. Having quality players shouldn’t be seen as a negative, we get 5 years of quaintly out of him for 50/60 million plus wages, then he’ll head of for his dream club, will be far more worthwhile over Jones getting 15 years at the club and filling in when fit...

We are being used so that Barca increase their wage offer. This would be too good to be true.

I'm perfectly happy with us ramping up the price on De Ligt. It weakens Barca to make other transfers, full throttle Ed.

Same. So long as it doesn't distract us from doing due diligence on realistic targets at the same time.

If we could get him instead of Koulibaly I hope we do. The problem with Barca is they only have 11 slots in their team and all the players seem to want to go there.

Isnt Riaola banned for three months?

I think Barcelona are in dire financial straits. They have a bloated wage bill and they've been trying to offload everyone from Coutinho, Rakitic to Cillessen to fund new arrivals but they're not finding many takers. They are probably trying to bridge the gap by selling players + asking De Ligt to reduce his salary demands but Raiola is the last person in the world to get cheap with and he'll also demand a hefty agent fees.

This will go along for a while, in the end Barca might have to sell even more players like Dembele for less than they had hoped. On the other hand if De Ligt signs elsewhere, expect the usual parrots like Ballbag singing the "he only wanted money anyways" song.
