Barca seems a legit destination. When was the last time Liverpool signed someone the whole world wanted?
They’ve just finished on 97 points and playing some of the best football over the past year or two. Don’t see why they wouldn’t attract the top talent. If I was
putting my money on someone I’d go with Liverpool signing him.

Something to do with them not offering the wages available at the bigger clubs?

From what i've seen, we need this guy.

He is a leader. He could be our captain for 10 years +.

He would be my priority signing this year, closely followed by Sancho for RW.

Centerback with the highest potential out of ANY player in that position in world football. Break the bank for him or live to regret it. Natural born leader. I don’t know if you guys saw the video of him talking to the Ajax supporters after there title win but those kind of players you need in your team at all costs.

I think Barcelona are in dire financial straits. They have a bloated wage bill and they've been trying to offload everyone from Coutinho, Rakitic to Cillessen to fund new arrivals but they're not finding many takers. They are probably trying to bridge the gap by selling players + asking De Ligt to reduce his salary demands but Raiola is the last person in the world to get cheap with and he'll also demand a hefty agent fees.

This will go along for a while, in the end Barca might have to sell even more players like Dembele for less than they had hoped. On the other hand if De Ligt signs elsewhere, expect the usual parrots like Ballbag singing the "he only wanted money anyways" song.

I think they’ve been floating the story about the players not wanting Greasyman. The truth is that they can’t afford him and DeLigt. One or the other unless they shift loads out

We'd have to put a gun to his head to get him to choose us currently...

We’re not signing him, although I’d love us to. Don’t think we’re spending much this summer which would be a mistake as I think we’d be making the same mistake other teams have made in not taking advantage of a position of strength

Don't get sucked in guys. He's not coming here. We're getting name dropped to get the money from other clubs.

Ya I’d have to agree, there’s no chance he’s going to choose us over Barca.

Play with Messi or Play with Jessi. The choice is yours.

Had the wheels not fallen off and we got top 4 like it looked like we would at one stage....we.may have stood a chance.

Can't see any reason other than money why he'd come here. Even if Barca can't afford him this year I think he will stay at Ajax until they can.

He won't stay on, that makes absolutely no sense. If Raiola wants him here, he will convince him to join us and spend a few years before another mega move. He is still very young and would probably relish the challenge of the PL.

You overrate Barca’s attraction to think he’d spend an extra year at much lower wages to wait to see if Barca sign him.

Whilst Barca are very attractive right now, it’d be stupid for him to wait a year with no guarantees. What happens if he breaks his leg?

He'd have to be mental to sign for us right now.

I think players like to be part of a project especially at his age. Also, we could pay him handsome wages and Raiola would get paid well also. If he moves to either of the Spanish teams, they won't pay him as much and his wage increment would be pretty small over the years. However, if he played for us for say 5 years, he would be in his prime at the age of 25 and would command a larger increment in wages when Barcelona, PSG and Real Madrid coming calling. So it's not completely infeasible for him to join us right now.

Agent Blind and Edwin, please help us out here.

Can you imagine he joins us and in interview he said Blind influenced me to join.

What a masterclass transfer strategy from both club & Mourinho would be to sell Blind to Ajax so we can land this guy.

I'd obviously love it if he came here, but if he doesn't then please, anyone but city.

Kompany has been a squad player. His departure has no relevance to De Ligt. Classic drama queen reaction.

We miss the Dutch players in our squad. RVN, VDS, Stam, RVP. All exceptional players. I don’t see De Ligt coming here but would love a couple other Dutch players. Generally very technical players which our squad lack.

They were reportedly after a new CB anyway.

That is kind of the point too. I'm not suggesting City would have no interest in De Ligt.

I'm saying Kompany leaving will play no role in any pursuit of De Ligt.

If City are after De Ligt then they would have been after him regardless of Kompany.

To me it just seems another excuse for people to have a cry.

Last week there were cold sweats over him joining Liverpool and forming the greatest defensive partnership in the history of football with van Dijk. Now he's nailed on for City.

Yep I'd be surprised if he went anywhere else but City now. Well them or Barca.

People are suprised all the time. A new project at the worlds most famous club will not be something people dont care about.

United has not been great after SAF left, no one will argue that. That said, we are a powerhouse in football and we will rise again. Stop being so shortsighted.

You would prefer him to go to Liverpool..?

He has such a big choice of clubs, the only significant advantage for Utd is that he would be unequivocally our best CB, as opposed to going to City, Liverpool or Barca - that’s clutching at straws mind!

With Kompany leaving makes perfect sense him going to City now.

Both PSG and City secured players when they were “shite”, we simply need to do the same with Felix, Sancho and De Ligt... blow absolutely everyone out of the water with our offer. This one Summer could define us for the next decade.

Have you seen the state of their defences? He would walk into their teams.
