£££, offer him a lot more than what Barca are offering.

That normally work.

Also whilst not quite at Barca/Milan level, we’ve had our share of Dutch superstars, so that should help
When you finish top 3 maybe... top 6, not a chance

Because that worked out well for us with Sanchez didn't it.

If a player only wants to come here for the money - we're better off without them thanks.

You think the problem with Sanchez was the money?

So, so, transparent. Barca make take it or leave it offer and right on cue it’s reported in the media that he might be interested in a move to moneybags United.

Bollocks.

To be fair, De Ligt won't be coming here to retire though, we'd be building a team around him. Very different situation, and Barcelona are absolutely going to pay to whack for him anyway, it wouldn't be just us splashing the cash on him.

I refuse to get hyped over this, I'd be shocked if he chose us over Barca.

Nothing wrong with splashing the cash no - my point was though that I'm not keen on signing players who chose us purely for money.

Of course not - however it has caused problems with players wanting the same as him (reportedly) so yeah it did cause problems mate. The fact that he was finished as a top footballer before he arrived is another matter altogether.

This is a classic "we're building a young team around you, project blah blah and this is our trophy room as we used to be really good and how about 300k per week ?!"

Yes, we're being used again.

Keep calm lads, United is being used by his agent, so Barca up their offer. Why would he join United ahead of Barcelona.. No chance.

This idea that Barca will always be at the top of the tree. History doesn't suggest that. They could also fall on barren years. Get the right guy in the room with him selling United and we'd still attract a lot of the best players. It's like United are the only club on the planet that can't attract players unless winning the CL. I'd say the club being in Manchester and not London is a bigger obstacle to the modern footballer over CL. And we've always done ok on that front.

This was said about Pogba and Real Madrid, funny its the same agent too.
I do think he will sign for Barca though

Probably the best signing we could make this year. But there isn't a chance in hell that it will happen

If Barca had the money, there is 0% chance of signing him. However, I doubt they can afford him, De Jong and Griezmann. Still think he'll go elsewhere but maybe not 0%. If Liverpool come in for him, we're fecked. How depressing is that?

Whoever gets him will have signed the next best CB of the decade providing he stays injury free.

He has it all, tough, great in the air, phenomenal reading of the game, leader etc only at 19.

I have to say I'm going to be incredibly jealous of whoever signs him. Feck whoever it may be.

Strange deciding that we’re watching a future defensive great at such a young age.

But it’s not even irrational to think that. It’s difficult to see his secret.

I think he’s fantastic, and would love to have him here, but agree with most he’s nailed on for Barcelona.

What I don’t see a big problem with is offering him a huge amount even if it is just Agent games for a better deal with Barcelona. Worst case he chooses them and we’ve forced Barca to pay more than they wanted to. No skin off our back.

If this happens it will change the toxic and negative image of Utd being potrayed by the media. Imagine De Ligt and Sancho next season :drool:
No way this is happening though, we werent able to go toe to toe against Barca in the transfer marker in our glory days, let alone now.

How does Barca have so much money?? Their spending has to be on par with the oil clubs and miles ahead of Real.

Looking at their accounts I have no idea how they can afford to buy De Jong, De Ligt & Grizemann. They made an operating loss of 175m euro's last year and had to rely on selling players to break even. Even if they didn't buy a player this summer it looks like they'd have to sell a few to break even in the next set of accounts.

Apart from Coutinho & Umtiti who else can Barca sell to generate funds?

There is no chance we can get him. We should stop spending our time on unrealistic targets. If we do not prepare us well for a transfer period (which it seems like) then time is a very scarce resource. In our situation we need at least 5 players so let us spend our time wisely and go for players that are more realistic and where we don’t have to fight with the top five biggest / most in form clubs.

Like Sancho the chances of him coming here this summer are zero, shouldn’t allow ourselves to be strung along before he goes somewhere else. We can’t make these kind of signings in our current position, just no incentive for players of this type other than money.

If this time next year we are back in Champions League and on an upwards trajectory it would be a different story but we’re shopping in a different market this year. Have to resist urge to throw money at players to move somewhere they don’t actually want to go.

I'm guessing they'll look to sell Malcom, Cillessen, Rakitic, Rafinha, maybe Vidal and they also have Andre Gomes on loan at Everton who'll probably sell for £30-40m.

Fat ? Kid's built like Superman

He is, until Van der Sar comes into the picture. Then he's Robin.

Would love to sign him but agree with the majority that he looks certain to be a Barca player very soon.

We are being used to make Barca pull their finger out.

There are reasons. First, the salary might be higher. Second, he'd likely play more minutes. Third, the PL physical demands would help his development. Fourth, he might want to test his skills more before going to a one of the teams where defenders are less demanded.
The lad is only 15 or whatever so he has a lot of time to join Barcelona or any other club. Manchester United wouldn't be a bad move for him.

They don’t which is what makes it fishy. Highest wage bill in Europe and they had to borrow 140 million Euros to pay the wages.
They do have some people they could probably sell like Umtiti (if they can find a buyer) Coutinho (although Other than PSG not sure who would take him) Dembele, Gomes, Rafinha probably about it. They’d fetch a good price for Countinho and Dembele.

They've a big issue with Coutinho, everyone knows their desperate to get rid for playing and financial reasons and there's not many clubs who can afford him and actually want him.

People overvalue players' ambition. They are in a job and the goal is to accumulate the most amount of money in a short career.

Plenty of players go to China for that exact reason.

Just because it failed with Sanchez doesn't mean it always fails. Have you seen how City established themselves?

Did they sign Robinho, Aguero, etc when they were top 3?

Plenty of players also choose to not play in China, depends on the player. What I know about De Ligt from his years at Ajax he won't prioritise money over his ambitions.

I went to watch Guangzhou Evergrande about a month ago. The crowd are great, the football, is a sight to behold
