I don't doubt it, but he'd still be rotating more than the other clubs, and would have a good shot of being captain within a season or 2. That's not the case with Pool.
He’d always play if fit, just like Van Dijk does. No question about it. And the latter made it to third captain within less than two years while our vice captain and captain don’t even start every game.

I suppose only time will tell really. I just don't see Liverpool as his ideal destination, I might be wrong.

There is no way he’s going to pass up the chance of winning silverware with Barcelona to join the ‘project’ the glazers are messing up here. Maybe if we had a world class manager rather than the clear mistake we’re going with. Total mess.

Don't think so either, we don't have the proven track record of consistently winning trophies the last decade, sadly. At this point of his career he should be aiming for a definite first XI spot at a top club and regular silverware. But it would be lame if he joins Juventus imo. I think he's Barça bound, unfortunately.

Yep. Hate Barca.

A Manchester United scout alerted the club about the two Ajax players, Mattijs de ligt and de Jong but the club dismissed them. Again, Man Utd is badly run!

I'm just not sure he'll want the kind of rotation he'd be getting at Pool or City. Barca is perfect because Pique is pretty much gone, Juve as well because of the age of Bonucci and Chiellini.

This is what I was thinking at Pool and City, I mean if he goes to the EPL it is to either of those clubs. Sure Chelsea and Spurs have CL football but Spurs dont have the cash and Chelsea are on an xfer ban so it leaves just Pool and City as the options. Spain, RM is well equipped at CB, so Barca seems the obvious choice, and Juve have an aging defense.

He’s only coming here if we can blow the rest of the competition out of the water with wages , which we can do. Unlike Sanchez and City , this time it would be worth it.

Assuming he's motivated purely by money and not the desire to compete at the top level in Europe. If it's the latter, he'll give United a very wide berth. Besides, do we really want to get players who come just for the massive wage packet? We've got a few of those already and look where we are.

I don't think we have a chance really. Barca and City will both offer high wages as well as a chance to compete for all trophies. In Liverpool, he might not get the same wages but he'll be able to pair up with Van Dijk, his national team-mate. All these three teams play a brand of football similar to what he had in Ajax. I simply can't see any reason for him to choose us except our willingness to line up Riaola's pockets.

Anyway, I think we are going for Koulibaly who might be exactly what we need. A leader at the back and very strong physically. His position being LCB is an added advantage as Lindelof and Smalling are both better at RCB.

Not really. Barca under Varverde usually plays in some weird defensive 4-4-2 shape without the intense pressing. Liverpool is a very direct team without focus on possession control, triangles etc. City is the only club that is true to Cruyff-esque principles at the moment.

He'd fit in perfectly in any one of those teams though.

I’ll be very surprised if Valverde isn’t sacked after the cup final. Albeit he has just come out and said the president/board said they are fully behind him after the anfield humiliation.

He's going to Barca unfortunately. We should've snapped him up in January. The fact that VDS is their President would've made getting him a bit easier. Unfortunately we gave new contracts to Jones and Smalling. It's the whole "having a English/British core at Manchester United" fable. It is ridiculous.

If the British core includes Sancho, Kane, Wan Bissaka, Maddison, Sessegnon and Maguire then it wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, we have Young, Jones, Lingard, etc who are not going to take us to the best level.

Absolutely zero chance that either he or Ajax would have sanctioned a January move. Ajax had him exactly where they wanted I’m the European shop window. They’re not daft enough to let someone nip in on the cheap to get him before any bidding war.

As for our English core, it’s pretty much regulations with the home grown rule.

I meant something like what Barca did with De Jong. Sign him but let him stay till end of season.

Also we have better players in the reserves to replace the current British core of first teamers. Also Tuanzebe and TFM would be coming back. There was no good reason to give Jones, Smalling and Young new contracts.

I’ve seen some stupid things blamed on Smalling and Jones but this is right up there.

thread on soccer reddit that Ajax had to cut his shorts so his thighs would fit.

United vindicated !

Someone tell him Ole wants to play attacking football

Break the bank.

He’s the leader we need, not to mention he’s absolutely class.

Would be a great signing, but we are lacking in what we can offer him at the moment besides $$$.

Ignore those scouts spotted them x number of years ago interviews, normally done by ex scouts with an axe to grind, and to be fair, there wasn't a scout in Europe that didn't know about these two ages ago. People just held off to see how they would develop and now it seems to have gone well everyone is in ..... but Barca has one and will get the other.
