If Barca are really in for him this is over. We need to turn these players heads a season before Barca or Real or even Bayern come knocking. Basically we need to take risks on players for the next few years and accept we don’t have a divine right to win anymore. We need to develop a new strategy. We are the super club that will really give youth a chance and all the commercial gain that goes with playing for united will not be lost in players agents either.

He has the choice of any club in the world. There is absolutely no chance he will choose us. He’s already wearing a Barcelona shirt in my opinion.

Very unlikely he'll be coming here, be an amazing signing. A quality CB and leader is really needed. This is the type of signing we would have made under Fergie, don't have that pull at the minute unfortunately.

From United’s point of view we make a profit on an unhappy player and get a top prospect who will have similar likely resale value. Now you might complain about us becoming a stepping stone club but the only way we can keep players like Pogba and De Ligt (if we sign him) is if we get to the top table again so retaining him (if we sign him) is in our hands.

If we have to bring him in to oil the Pogba wheels I'm happy with that. It's far from certain we'd be a stepping stone for him. Northern European players are less likely to get their heads turned towards Spain and do generally like England as a destination.
