It was
Two things: Age and asset value. Van Dijk is 28. Ramos is what? 33? Their transfer value will depreciate over the next couple of years. That is as much of a cost to the club as wages. Look at yourselves. Eriksens transfer value has been cut in half over a year according to CIES for example. From 100m EURO to 50m EURO. Thats 50m in asset depriciation over a year and would in itself fund a new contract to him for four years at 250k a week. You have basically paid 50 m to keep him this year.
De Ligt is not going to lose value over the next three years at least. Might even increase.
So Van Dijks actual cost is 150k a week plus asset depreciation.
De Ligt would be 250k plus/minus asset depreciation OR even value increase (like Pogba, who is worth much more now compared to when we bought him.
So yeah, a no-brainer to me. If he wants to come.
Buckle in muppets!
Tottenham's rise was also fueled by a similar transfer strategy, and it's what I'd love to see us pursue. This whole "we can get anyone because we can pay them obscene wages" mentality is both gross (so we're OK with being a mercenary club now?) and unsustainable (we have massive money, but we cannot compete financially with oil money or the literal state of Qatar).
I think De Ligt is an incredible player with an extremely high ceiling, but giving a kid 300K wages is mind boggling. I remember when people flipped out about Rooney getting 180K a week after he submitted his transfer request. Or when we mercilessly mocked City and called them a team of mercenaries because they were paying an in-his-prime Yay Toure 220K a week. I understand that the game has changed substantially since the early 2010s, but when you start a 19 year-old on 300K, you're (a) asking to get held to ransom every 2-3 years come early-extension time, and (b) upending the wage structure in a way that ensures that even mediocre players will start asking for more than they're worth, forcing you to decide whether you pay them that to ensure continuity/to keep squad players, or let them go and risk not finding a like-kind replacement.
That´s a very Spursy way to look at it) Fact is that you let an asset worth 100m depreciate to 50m over a year, while paying him, what? 5m in wages for that same period. But hey, I am not complaining as long as you win on Saturday....Your not taking into consideration the initial transfer fee for depreciation, if we do sell Eriksen this summer for £50M we wont have lost anything, he cost us £11M.
At the end of the day its United's money to spend and they will spend it how they wish, I still think he will end up at Barca, I doubt he will do anything until after the International tournament.

333.
33 league matched played, 3 goals.
You've got another 10 days before the nations league, and the daily updates are only going to increase in that time, then he'll go on holiday whilst dropping hints every five minutes like Pogba did, and then it'll no doubt it'll still drag out to early July at the earliest.
So with all that I'd say 463.
Totally unrelated to this specific post, but surely the whole of England bar Arsenal (and Liverpool!) fans will be cheering you on at the weekend! I reckon even Chelsea will mostly, as they hate Liverpool from Jose days.
I have very little faith in your boys, but you never know, it's just one game.
Don't come talk to us about our money when your chairman probably drives a Fiat Punto.
Yeah I agree we will have the support, but like you say its hard not seeing Liverpool winning it it would be devistating for them what with last years final and the 2nd place league place.
ITs a one off game and if we turn up we could get a result, its our midfield thats concerning me. We have Dier, Winks and Sissoko fit but only Sissoko has really impresed with the other 2 having recent injuries. Then there is the whole Kane issue, this is why I dotn wanna talk about it as there are to many unknowns were as Liverpools 1st team will be a lot more predictable... maybe thats to our advantage.
Yep - so one last post from me on it..and you can come back to it at about 6pm Saturday - yes you have a relatively poor midfield, but Liverpool certainly do too.
Both teams can claim "Name on the cup fate" if they win it, you even more so probably. Someone said quite geniusly, that you've been 20mins from going out the whole way through.
Liverpool losing again, and Klopp again being 2nd will be an absolutely catastrophic blow - and would spark mass "we'll never win anything" doubts. Bring that straight on.
I'd even take Glaston being Glaston afterwards, as truth be told he's the main reason most of us like to see Tottenham fail. Otherwise you're a pretty safe club all in. And a little secret, in 1990 when I got into footy, I was a 50-50 in who to support between you and United (Wycombe my home town too).
Gazza and Lineker at their peak. But they couldn't quite draw me your way.
We must be of a similar vintage I started supporting in 91 I think, it was Gaza's last season and dreamed of being like Lineker (such an underated player). The deacde after that was all down hill TBH, then Big Martin Jol started us on the way back up again.
I think we reached peak turnover in the weekend reddit fun.
Unless we just have 200 people a day going "I fink he go Barcelona- we got no chance"
I most preferred your team when you had Bale, Van der Vaart etc. That was a team with a level of pure flair I don't think you even have now.
Nah, nothing beats the magic Berba&Keane performed when it comes to Spurs. Such a lovely team back then (not that they're detestable now).I most preferred your team when you had Bale, Van der Vaart etc. That was a team with a level of pure flair I don't think you even have now.
£400k,Ramos, probably the highest paid and most decorated CB in the world is on £200K,
what makes de Ligt worthy of £250K?
£400k, and United's revenue
Ramos is on 400k a week, and the thing that makes De Ligt worth 250k is United's revenue

Why is this Ajax fan always being quoted on here?
Same place you got the 200k a week. Difference is you got it from english sources, which got it from spanish sources but for whatever reason forgot to add the "after tax" partWhere did you see £400k a week?
Barcelona is prepared to pay millions and millions for Coutinho, Dembele and De Jong but now they are making a fuzz about paying Raiola a few million. Yeah right.
They are just spinning the narrative to save face.

Well, obviously our transfer policy has sucked over the last couple of years. That I think we can agree on. I dont agree on this age discrimination when it comes to wages though. Its understandable from a moral point of view, but not from a footballing and financial one. Who of Sanchez and De Ligt would you have at our club for 350k a week? We just have to accept that world class talent will cost that in wages nowadays. You cannot buy a 20 year old super-talent for the amount of money that is being talked about for De Ligt and not give him a salary that is equivalent to his transfer value. It will take one year and he will be poached by another club, not to mention the extreme financial setback we would take if he sees out his contract. Its a nice dream but not practically doable to offer him like 150k a week. Not to mention that his agent would laugh in our faces.
EDIT
I should say that I think that the 350k is exaggerrated. Including bonuses and incentives maybe. Base salary around 250k seems reasonable.
If PSG are in for him then I don’t hold out much hope of him coming to United, they can easily match or better anything we can offer.
I have a muppets hope but it’s certainly on the wain
Depends on Sergio and timing. I don't think Flo wants to blow a significant chunk of our budget on another CB, so unless Sergio brings in a good enough offer, unlikely. And that would have to happen before De Ligt agrees to go somewhere elseYou reckon you guys will be in to him?

Also, Florentino hates Raiola. Like, really can't fecking stand the sight of him. Whole reason we're not going all out for Pogba
Why should we? No plans to switch to a back 3. We only need 4 CBs and right now we have 5...Even if Sergio stays, you have varane and the new Brazilian CB - is that enough? Are you linked to anyone else?
Ramos gross salary is 384k a week. Net after taxes its around 200k. English media always report gross salaries which makes these comparisons null and void.Where did you see £400k a week?
