They probably see the fan hysteria and know that the further it goes, the bigger the backlash when he goes to Barca. Maybe as well put a lid on it.

Not a crazy suggestion but they aren’t responsible for fan hysteria. They’ve done nothing to fuel the fire, not even things like have Ole watch him or leak stuff to the media. It’s not a hysteria they’ve created and therefore need to respond to.

Nothing has changed. Last thing reliable was that we have a better offer than Barca. So give it time.

Rac1 are quite reputable to be fair.

Fair play. I've been close to being sucked into this one a couple of times but I've resisted. I'm not convinced on this occasion it's going to happen so there seems little point in setting myself up for disappointment. I'm depressed enough as it is.

Also in a larger context we've had what I would describe as a variety of disappointments with the players we've managed to acquire in recent years. Perhaps it's better waiting to see how well de Ligt actually plays before becoming too excited.

I don't even know how people get excited about this.

Even if he truly joined, it's clear he'd only join as part of Raiola's plan to make money for himself and move him on again within the next 4 years to make even more money for himself. Not one logical reason to join Europa League level United now when basically the whole of Europe is interested in you. Spare me the: "He might want to be part of a United rebuild" fantasies.

These muppet are fecking weak. One party popper tweet and everyone gets sheepish. They would have folded like a cheap suit in the pogba thread as early as June.

True muppets like us wouldn't even bat an eye to this nonsense opinion of Simon Stone

Mkhi? He isn't in the same bracket as Pog or De Ligt. Was never considered one of the biggest talents around. The situation with Pogba was totally different as well. Also, we are in the worst situation for decades with a manager nobody will scream to work for. I don't think we'll be able to get the best talents around anymore. But we'll see.
It wasn't totally different. It's remarkably similar. PSG, City etc didn't just one day wake up as one of the big boys. They started signing top talent from a far inferior position than we are in now.

If we got 4 years out of him, it would still be worth it though. Actually having a quality defender for a change.

The only one who is reliable on skysports related to United is James Cooper. Then skysports official website's De Ligt article is not mentioning who writes it. Normally they will say it's James Cooper reporting it if the information came from him. But they haven't mention any reporter this time. It is reporting from "Sky sports news" and "Sky sources"

https://www.skysports.com/football/...e-out-move-for-ajax-defender-matthijs-de-ligt

Also, Guillem Balague agreeing "Sky sources" and he said De Ligt is not gonna join United yesterday. I assume "Sky sources" equal to Guillem Balague.

"Manchester United have ruled out a move for Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt, according to Guillem Balague."

Exactly this.

Ogden is not connected anymore, and has helped turn ESPN into a click bait farce.

I honestly see no changes since yesterday. All the club have done have refused to say they want him.

The press are using this opportunity for huge clickbait

He is still a 19 year old kid, not prime Maldini. People get excited because he was part of a great unit which had a couple of great games. Once he comes to United, he might take 1 shaky season to adapt, followed by 2 good season, followed by a so-so season because "his head is not in it" and suddenly him and Raiola want to leave again with 1 year left on his contract and all United did was develop him for his next move.

so true. Why are people kicking up a big fuss? I trust the Spanish Tier 1 source, Stone's tweet was nothing more than a personal opinion, as said many times already. I think the move not dead yet.

If we’re being rational about this, the only piece of information so far that we should be paying attention to is the tier 1 Barca source and Simon Stone, but that was just an opinion so he hasn’t really said anything noteworthy yet. As of now it’s definitely on, though I can’t see this being concluded shortly. It’ll likely drag on just like most other big transfers.

To fair Ballague called Di Maria correctly and was supportive of Pogba signing from when the rumours first started. I'm not a fan of the guy but just saying that he isn't entirely clueless.

He couldn't keep his bitterness from the Pogba stuff though, it was another Pep or money thing.

Yep. Between those two sources you're left with the idea that we've made a bid for De Ligt but he's likely intended to go to Barca and that probably remains the case. Which was already the rational take on what would happen anyway. It certainly isn't any reason for people to have their hopes dashed as nothing has really changed.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. He does get some info correct but most of the time it’s to suit his or his friends agenda.

Recently he seems to be talking more and more about football index which he either has shares in or puts money into.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he uses his stature to manipulate the market.

I think people never truly believed we had a chance anyway so the first bit of negative news everybody has jumped ship and said told you so.

The narrative has always been we had a chance because Barca refused to pay up, otherwise let’s be honest why would be prefer to join us at this stage? We aren’t at our strongest right now.

Let’s just see what happens. If he goes to Barca then we invest elsewhere, but we have to strengthen RB/RW etc

He was right with Di Maria but the Pogba one, I’m sure I remember he kept saying he wanted Madrid more than Utd. We desperate to see him in a Madrid shirt back then.

Not clueless but he’s got way more wrong than correct which is why many, including myself take his news as a pinch of salt. Loves the sound of his own voice.

Why not? Been mentioned before - be the leader to lead a giant to glory again, CBs are highly regarded in PL, guaranteed first choice football, nice pay packet, easier language to follow.. etc etc... he even said it himself that he prefers the PL

Remember there was a thread of Balague which showed he was a bs merchant.

How, in anyway, can a ‘journalist’ be so active on social media as to post a GIF aimed at a set of fans and then claim to have journalistic integrity?

The whole form is beyond a joke now; opinion pieces mascarading as ‘news’ - i honestly don’t know why our fans bother with most of it.

wake me up when manutd.com have something to say

Is Guillem Balague SS's main source for that article denying our interest?
