Yep, 100%. Hard to believe why so many can’t see this but muppets will muppet I suppose.
What's the problem with that?

If he hasn't signed a contract, there is still a chance we can sign him. There's a point where negotiations stop and one job offers you more than the other so you have to make a decision. Barcelona won't match us so the choice is his.

Don't understand the people coming in here and acting like people's mums saying "it will end in tears!".

We fecking know it will, but we're fully grown men and have been rejected before so we'll fecking live. Dare to put yourself out there muppets. You'll only regret it when he signs and you've got to come back with your tail between your legs like the cowards you are!

Aye exactly. It's just a laugh, all part of the fun of the summer. People should just lighten up really.

Strongest league in the world. All English teams in European finals. Playing against the best week in week out. Physical game.

Or

Playing against whipping boys 30 weekends out of 38.

Where are you going to develop best?

Please. He would be learning his trade playing alongside Pique (not to mention Messi and co) in Europe's premier competition, the Champions League.

Meanwhile, other than de Gea, can you think of a single player we've signed in the last 10 years who has actually enhanced their reputation while at the club.

Yes I'm sure facing the likes of Kane, Salah, and Aguero multiple times a year would be terrible for his development. He's probably best off going to a league whose clubs actually make CL finals.

I'm sure City/Liverpool will have already intimated this to Raiola. If he doesn't go to Barca, there's no particular reason to think he would join United.

Pique's not even in the top 5 defenders in the world. He can't defend for shit.

You're talking about last season. If we actually get De Ligt and follow that up with Felix and Sancho next summer are you still going to be so depressed? We're not ancient Rome, we had a bad season but things are on the up. We will get better again but we have to sign these players when they're available to hasten it.

We’re the only ones that are desperate for quality so we will value him. I think that’s the only thing. We’re bigger than city and Liverpool, it’s debatable.

I doubt from the outside it looks like things are "on the up". We finished the season with our worst run of form for 50 years.

It means something this summer, when we're trying to persuade the top talents in Europe that we are in fact not a sinking ship.
It means feck all. No potential signing is going to sit down with Ed and say 'look, I really want to sign but this shit form 3 months ago has put me off. Make this offer £400k instead of £300k and I'll think about it some more'.

These guys are pro's they know how form works, and anyone who decides what club they join based on the last 10 games the club played is a fecking snow flake anyway.

Some people are simply too scared to believe and insecure to the point that they scoff at others who dare to be positive about tweets etc. it’s not like we haven’t had these sarcastic sourfaces piss on parades before actually pulling off signing x or y.

We’ve done bigger and/or more unbelievable/difficult deals before in the past years. Quick examples: RvP, di maria, pogba and even sanchez (at the time believed to be a huge coup) whom everyone believed was bound for city (and no way would arsenal let their star player go to us ever again after rvp).

You're right. They will probably look at our record over the last 6 years.

Rules us out. We're the worst place he could possibly come to if developing himself is his primary aim. Sad but true.

I disagree.

Ole & Ed are clearly targeting you g players as possible. Whilst all the fans want meunier and what not - the players we seem to go after is AWB, Longstaff, James etc & maybe we could add De ligt on to that list alongside the other young players like Sancho or felix.

If De ligt knows this - then that may do him some good because the guy is still young. He has Alot of centre defensive competition at Barcelona with players they have bought quite recently as well, whilst also being around players like Messi & Suarez who will be expected to deliver performances 10/10 most of the time and de ligt would fall for that too.

On the other side - De ligt's first season at a new club like United's finds him in an europa league competition where he can take his time and effort to blend on to the team and possibly lead the team towards the next steps - getting united big again step by step from qualifying to CL football to one say competing & possibly winning the league.

That's what I think anyway. However I also think this Dutch freedom to Barcelona is overrated - sure the best player or two may go there - but having de ligt just follow de Jong to Barcelona just feels like a very babyish thing to do. He is better than that just to follow his partner to a club & from what alot of the ajax fans to say is that de ligt wants to test himself. I don't think holding de jongs hands to go to Barcelona is doing that. Obviously that is just my opinion.

Biggest proof tht De Ligt is signing for us

Our wages are significantly higher. Plus its a misnomer to think we are suddenly not an attractive club to go to given that the likes of Chelsea, Pool, and City continued to attract top players when they themselves were rebuilding. Just look at Roman's post-Ranieri buildup in the mid 2000s and the City takeover a few years later. Ultimately money and prestige (or some combination thereof) matter more than who happens to be in the CL next year.

2nd place finish, Europa League, League Cup, FA Cup + 1 more final. We've not been as bad as people like to make out, we've had a couple of terrible seasons though.

We'll be back in the CL next year and might even win another EL this coming year.

On the flip side, let's say Messi retires in a couple of years, where will Barcelona be then? Where will we be then?
