On a scale of 1-10 how happy are people with this signing? I've heard or read good things about him, but also pretty average things too.

8-9. I thought that we would go down the Clyne route and that Darmian would go to Bayern, Juve or Barca as he is not the type of signing that we have made over the past few years.

Very happy.

Dunno about that. Kagawa, Rojo, Blind were all arguably that type of signing. Performing to some acclaim in a European league, well thought of, not much hyped in England, relatively recent additions to their national teams but already established fixtures there, and bought for a decent price.

Also very happy.

6/7. We need a RB and he's cheap. Not really sure how good he really is though, slightly mixed views I've seen.

I'm very happy. And, along with Schneiderlein (hopefully), will be pleasantly surprised at the first window in memory where United simply went out and bought the obvious, logical targets.

Darmian, for my money, was the best right-back on the market at the beginning of the window, in a key position of need. Depay was probaby the standout young player in Europe in a position of need, and his Dutch connection made him a 'logical' choice. Schneiderlein was the logical DM for a top PL team. All good priced, high-quality players, all at selling clubs looking to make the next step.

I think Ed will have done very well if we can get them over the line. He has also handled the De Gea situation brilliantly so far, and has really stood up to Madrid in a manner that is now backing up his words of where he sees United in world football.

Where did you read that?

How reliable is the Mirror ?

"Manchester United are close to completing the signing of Matteo Darmian from Torino.

The Italy right-back will join United for £12.9million on a four-year deal with an option for an extra year.

Darmian is expected in Manchester today to undergo a medical at United's AON Training Complex tomorrow.

A senior United source claimed the deal for Darmian was "pretty much done" with an annoucement expected within 24 hours."

Sorry if this has been asked before, but if he's as highly rated as everyone says he is why is the fee so low? Are Torino in financial trouble ?

20m euros is still a lot of money - what we bought De Gea for and what Vietto went to Atletico for. It's just how fecked the euro is compared to the pound makes it very cheap for us.

What's with the trend of 4+1 year deals? Seems all of our new players sign these deals?

Did not watch his every game,so i dont know much,we not gonna pay a lot,not gonna be on high wages, seems he is good enough to be in Italy squad, hope things will work out for him. Happy enough we did not take some other option.

7/10 for the player himself. He's looked good when I've seen him for Italy but I'd need to see him more before I make up my mind. Don't think he's world class or anything but a good addition who will improve us.

The deal itself gets 8/10 though as we appear to have brought in a player in a position we needed to strengthen at a low price and with no fuss. Nice to see.

The Mirror is usually pretty garbage, but if David McDonnel is reporting it then there's usually some truth to it.

Its funny really, this guy has been mentioned so much on here over the last few months as being exactly what we need, yet no one thought we were even in for him. All the rumours about Alves, Clyne, Coleman etc etc Then it turns out we've been after him for the last 4 months! I do love this kind of signing.

We probably need a thread here to make Woody/LVG show himself. He is a poster here.

Same here. Love when these sort of signings come out of left field, yet they are sensible and usually at a good price.

Woodward has done very well here.

Man.. Comments like this really show the difference between leagues. 20m Euro is alot for a small club like Torino, in Holland most clubs don't have more than a few million.

The fee isnt low for clubs like Torino or even Serie A in general. The ridiculous amount of money made by the PL clubs and the 2 Spanish clubs mess transfer fees up.

Cheers.

So what I'm hearing is "let's raid Serie A"? :)

I like elated/happy/flowerbunnyboy Sam.

Yeah, I actually used him as an example of the best available RBs around without ever really thinking we'd go for him. Bit strange really. Maybe it's because he's Italian and I assumed he'd go to one of their big clubs, or because Clyne seemed nailed on for so long.

I wouldn't read too much into that four months thing though, I'd say we have loose provisional agreements discussed with a lot of players we won't actually end up going for too.

It shows the media have absolutely no clue what we're up to which is great to know. It should also put to bed the nonsense about Woody picking our transfer targets because if that was the case, Dani Alves would be our RB now. It was idiotic in the first place knowing our manager was actually Van Gaal who would never tolerate it but still.

Cheers.

Not really brimming with Darmians though. The Bundesliga on the other hand

One of the journo said that Woodward was bitter, and fed them with BS last season. Maybe he is still feeding them with false information.

WIth each day passing, I love Woody more. Hail the king!

9/10 signing without a doubt. Considering his qualities, age, character, price and versatility. Coleman and Darmian were the only realistic RB's i wanted when we got linked with Clyne. Thank feck we ended up with him.

This is a great signing, credit to LVG for picking him over more mainstream names. Also a great bargain made by Woody, Depay and Darmian have both been acquired for reasonable money.

This is what united should be doing, going into the transfer window making smart signings, strengthens positions that were weak, and in all we move players on that were on good wages that we were never going to use like rafeal and nani. Depay replaces nani, Darmian replaces rafeal, so we are replacing the dead wood while maintaining the quality those 2 once give us.

So this is a done deal then? Good stuff. Don't know much about him but I've been hearing his name for a few years and I remember him being absolutely class on one of the FM games a few years back, so that's good enough for me.
