Considering how he actually played last season... I can. (Massive hindsight obviously, thought he was an excellent signing at the time.)

Was a beast in 13/14 though, he just went to Dortmund at the wrong time, i predict a good season with Sevilla and a high profiled move to Valencia or A.Madrid in a few years.

TBF everyone was shit with Dortmund last season.

Jeez what a mammone. You're joining the biggest British club in the world and not going to Afghanistan
Nothing wrong with appreciation for the club and place where you learned your trade. Don't see how his farewell to Turin should be a love message for UTD. That's reserved for his United press conference.. "dream come true", "biggest club in the world", "best fans", "win trophies".. blah blah.

Exactly on the occasions where one of our guys has penned a letter before leaving they rarely mention their new club. The letter is a thank you.

With Porto on the verge of signing casillas I think DDG is as good as gone...sadly, but that seems to be the case.

Well, if DDG is gone, we got ourselves a brand new player in return. Woodward playing hardball you know :)

Feels very strange to have a manager targetting obvious weak spots and not signing more strikers.
Feels like Chelsea's window last summer... Everyone knew the weaknesses they had and the players they needed to get, and they just went out and got them. Schneiderlin, Depay, Darmian are all excellent signings and exactly what we needed (if we get them Schneiderlin of course). Now just add in Otamendi or Ramos to it and we're pretty much sorted.

Yup unless DDG leaves we should go for Lloris because valdes alone is just a risk

Striker if we can get a good one couldn't hurt either.

Dont think DDG is leaving this summer, looks like we won this battle.

You're rather optimistic. With rumours of Iker to Porto being done I reckon you're in for a shock. De Gea is gone. It's how much we get or who we get in return

Yeah, the striker position is still a maybe. If RvP stays then we won't need one this summer, and that'd be best IMO. Stick it out for a season with Rooney as the main choice, Van persie as back up, and Wilson rotating in. Then next season sign somebody like Lacazette as the main striker. It's tricky because of Rooney's age, he should have a couple of very good seasons left in him, but we'll see.

I dunno, I'm increasingly with Dxadel here. Not saying that he definitely won't go, just that it's a perfectly valid possibility. Woody and LVG are both stubborn when they need to be, and with United raking it in at the moment we won't be too worried about the possibility of losing him on a free next season. And the Casillas move means less than the media are making it out to, since Navas has already basically replaced him as first choice anyway.

I think we've decided that it's Ramos one way and De Gea the other, or nothing. So the ball's in Madrid's court, but whatever happens they won't end up with both players next season.

Or RVP out and Lacazette in this summer

Yep, plus that way it gives Wilson a season to stake a claim for that spot before we buy someone in expensively instead. He's yet to have a really good chance, but if we hold off on buying someone for a season he'll get some serious game time and then we'll see.

RvP's not good enough anymore, he was abysmal last season. We need a new striker.

Lacazette will want to be playing all the time though, he won't come in and be a squad player. So what do you do with Rooney, put him in midfield? Lacazette on the wing? What then with Di Maria/Mata/Herrera/Depay or others who should be starting? That's why it's better if we just keep RvP as a squad player for this season and then bring in a starter next summer. It just works better age wise with our players.

Like I said, the biggest problem with that view is that you're ignoring the momentum of the Iker to Porto rumours. RM won't sell Iker if they weren't sure of DDG. All the major RM aligned outlets are reporting that it's a matter of time for Iker to Porto. That's why I'm not swayed. Add to that the media outlets in Spain now report RM are expecting a 2nd bid from us for Ramos. It doesn't look good on the DDG front

Lacazette will probably have to play RW to utilise his decent left foot even though he is predominantly right footed. I'm not going to pretend iv seen a lot of him last season but I saw him a lot when he was a youngster playing at RW and he wasn't that good there. Depends if he would be happy with a 2nd spot as a ST & a 1st spot for RW.

My whole point is that they very much might. As I said, Casillas isn't their first choice keeper any more, Navas is. Obviously selling him is intended to add pressure to their bid for De Gea, but it doesn't guarantee it, and it doesn't change the fact that clearly we've decided not to let DDG go until they let us have Ramos.

EDIT: Very OT now, anyway.

Im referring to exxagerations such as crying etc

If DDG goes we arguably need a keeper and a centre-half just as badly. Quite a lot of work still to be done!

We can get by with Valdes. If we sign Otamendi or Ramos and then top it with a signing of a good stiker (Lacazette or someone) it'd be incredible transfer window.

Our two signings so far seem exactly the right type - young, playing in the position we have been the weakest in, at good prices. No PL experience though so we might need to wait 8 years before they get used to the amazing league.

Agree to disagree then. Not the thread for this anyway

Dunno about 8 years but chances are they will need at least a few months, perhaps the whole season. Would be unusual if they don't.

Which is why Schneiderlin would be such a great signing.

Whatever we do, we should sell Rafael abroad. I could see him killing it for Arsenal. Arsenal are fantastic in managing injury prone players.
They might be the only club with comparable injury record to us. He'l kill there for 3 games and then get injured.

Wondering if this deal has anything to do with that scouting mission to Italy a while back,if so...our next striker might also come from Serie A.

Not sure if serious?

Why not? Chamberlain, Walcott, debuchy, Gibbs, Giroud and pleanty more get injured but they always come back and remain first teamers. They have horrible injuries but they never seem to mind that too much judging from walcott's contract alone. If Rafael down the line gets over his injury problems, he might turn around to come bite us.

They're great in managing injury proned players cause when injured players come back they remain first teamers?
Hm..

Arsenal I think has even worse injury record than us...
