DiMazrio reporting its done means its done which is awesome news, people have been praising this guy a lot so i'm glad hes joining.

Excited about this. Shaw on one side and Darmian on the other, with Blind and Rojo, Tony V (and hopefully Varela) as back ups at LB and RB respectively. That's an excellent set-up.

If we add Ramos and Otamendi, best defence in the league?

Yep that is pretty damn solid. A few more signings like Schneiderlin and Otamendi and we'd have seriously strong depth throughout the squad.

It would certainly be better than the one with a crocked full back, a winger and the idiot who heads the pitch.

I don't think we'll sign two. Van Gaal seems to really rate Smalling, I think he just wants a senior partner for him.

Besides, any back line coached by Mourinho is odds-on to be the best in the league. That's fine though, I'd always rather win things with our attack than our defence. what looks certain is that by the end of the transfer window we'll have a better back line than we've had since Neville-Rio-Vidic-Evra was in its prime.

Maybe to London first because Woody is working away in his office there and he wants to give our Darmian a great big hug

Proper classic United style signing of old like Schmeichel, Evra, Vidic, Valencia, etc - fairly unknown in the UK but with a good pedigree, able to slot into the team but with potential to develop further - hope he turns out to be as successful as these

I also think only one of the will be signed FWIW.

Adding just Ramos next to Smalling would make it IMO the best back 4 - on paper at least. Chelsea's isn't that great. Terry can't go on forever with his age, Cahill is good but nothing amazing without Terry, and then there probably isn't much between the fullbacks. With Schneiderlin shielding, hopefully he'd be able to do a similar job to Matic protecting Chelsea's back 4. Not much between the defensive set up of both teams if we bring in one of Ramos/Otamendi.

Cant disagree with any of this tbh. Pretty much what I think...

Shaw is bigger than 6 feet
jones is 6'1 if that is to be trusted (previously listed as 5'11 lulz). I think we can trust that he is 6'1 because he seems a tad smaller than Carrick (who himself ised to have his height wrongly listed... 6 feet just a couple of years ago, when he stood as tall as vidic) in recent training pics.

So welcome to the world of unreliable height profiles for football players... Shaw's height has been exaggerated. Doesn't even seem 6 feet to be honest...

And whilst they may have Courtouis we've got David De- ..:(

Apparently this deal has been going on for four months but we only really started hearing about this last week or so. Or haven't I been paying attention?
If I'm right it tells me that the journos get feck all from the club. Which is quite opposite of what some have been moaning about on here.

I read somewhere that Zaha is 5'11...

Darmian Smalling Otamendi/Ramod Shaw

Valencia/Rafael Jones Rojo Blind/Rojo

is quite a good setup. Probably the only weak point is Shaw (for next season), but in a better setup (then what we had last season) he should develop at a higher pace. Give them a year together and they would be as good as any back four in England (to not say Europe)

I almost gave up on us signing a RB when Clyne was going to Liverpool, Coleman was going to cost a bomb and we're not even linked to this guy at all despite him being my first choice.

Suddenly magical Ed comes in cool as all hell and we have signed our first RB for the first team since.... Henning Berg?

Apart from that one sky sports report a few days ago when they quoted sky Italia, has anyone in England mentioned anything at all? They really don't know feck all when it comes to our transfers

Yeah, plenty of them said we were 'closing in on him' yesterday (or the day before, can't remember). Looked like a clear brief from United with all the major papers and journos tweeting it at roughly the same time.

It's fecking annoying tbh. Chelsea get their world class keeper gift wrapped to them from Atletico after they've done all the work. We did the work with De Gea, stuck with him through the bad times, he becomes world class and then buggers off to Madrid.

Nice under the radar signing if true, even the resident Caf bullshitters/Google experts know feck all about this lad.

I don't ge people saying this. I have seen many calls all summer for us to go for him. Hard to get excited without even a trace of reported interest, this is why you saw no threads saying we should sign Alaba last summer when after a LB, not because we don't rate him.

I personally, have name checked Darmian a few times in recent months.

Anyway, sounds like this one is nearing completion, and I am very pleased with our deals so far if this is the case. Schneiderlein, Ramos/Otamendi and a 25 goal striker and I'd be exstatic.

This is the kind of signing that sends tremors through our rivals..

Yup seems about Shaw's true height.

Van gaal is 1.86, just a teensy bit over 6'1.
He looks exactly the same height as me. A mm or two under 6 feet from the pictures.

I think this pic is also slightly deceptive as LVG will probably have trainers and Shaw will have boots on making him seem slightly smaller

Edit: He has boots on, never mind...
