Mats Hummels

Watch him extend his contract now
Although contracts are worth these days. This is perfect time to move, he's still considered to be one of the top defenders in the world even after a poor season(Other season like this one would see he's stock drop hugely) Dortmund aren't going to be challenging next year(They aren't close to Bayren or Wolfsburg)and I there's a only a very slim chance of getting CL(I'm not too sure but they get CL football through winning the German Cup).

Europa, surely?

Only Europa League

Is that true? I thought others have said in this thread that he's been poor for longer than just a season.

I still don't think he'll move. He will probably get close to Reus' wages and sign the extention.

He's just 26, still got lot of football left in him, hope his injury concerns are not so serious.

Not too sure really but this season everyone's pretty agree he's being poor. Which wasn't something that was said last season, well not by the majority anyway.

Welcome to this years Vidal thread

This won't end well :(

Oh no, not again, I can't do it again. Every day a new rumor and new, fruitless hope installed into my tired heart. Not again.

I think Hummels has already verbally agreed to join us, as has Depay.
If you look at Hummel's statements from December to now the trend is clear, plus he isnt one to talk crap just to get an improved contact. The list of clubs that want him is extensive and he doesn't need to negotiate that way.

PS: He has stated that the only club he will move abroad for is MUFC.

Which turned out to be false.

The most annoying thing about the goal was actually his shit pass in the build-up that gave away possession. It's missing in the gif, but he received the ball quickly after kickoff and delayed the pass forward until he was under pressure from Gladbach's pressing, played a difficult pass that was intercepted and then ran around like a headless chicken until he finally slipped and sealed his beautiful work. 30 seconds of shocking mistakes.

Current situation reminds me a bit of Kompany. A world class player on his day, but it hasn't been his 'day' in a while.

It's a bit worrying that he seems to be making a mistake every other week. We could do with two CBs anyway...Hummels + Dragovic?

Hummels and Rojo is good enough for me. With Smalling and Jones for back up.

This has to be happening.

A newbie just PMed this:
"First of all, yes he did say that he is good enough for United, so that's probably a good thing.
But he only said it because Owen Hargreaves was in the studio (Sky Germany) saying that he wasn't good enough because of his defensive weaknesses. Then they cut to Klopp who heard Hargreaves' comments and he said that he thinks Hummels would be good enough for us.

So I think it was really a case of a coach defending his player."

What about the: "He told me he's thinking about it."

Not sure it makes sense to spend big on him if he hasn't had his day for awhile.

I love Dortmund but it might be good if they lose again today because it will help us sign Hummels. They are definitely not making the UCL. But if they dont make the Europa League also, then for sure they have to sell to trim their squad down due to having fewer games.

Smalling is way better than Rojo in my opinion. Still not convinced about Rojo. Has a slight crazy streak in him.

I think he would be if he could stay fit for a stretch. I'd have him as first choice if his fitness was assured, but it's the same old story with him. He's dependable when he plays though, so more suited to a back up role imo. There's no reason he can't get over his injuries later in his career and be huge for us.

Hummels is just as injury prone as Smalling.

Another very likeable player, I'd be very happy to see him play for us. How far away is he from captaincy for Germany? Would be great if we could replace Evans with a CB with leadership qualities.

Him and Gundogan is a dream come true. Two Germans is exactly what our team needs.

Aleksandar Dragovic is a proper formidable defender kind of name. Same as age as when we bought Vidic from Moscow as well.

Was very good against Everton if I remember correctly

Smalling's comfortably a better out-and-out defender.

In terms of literally just defending? I dunno, maybe he is. Obviously there's a lot more to being a CB than just being a good defender though, otherwise teams wouldn't place so much emphasis on other aspects of the game. Hummels is a better all round player than Smalling and a better CB for what we (presumably) want.
