Mats Hummels

My word of advice to Woody and other United oldies doing PR: just call Dortmund out in the media and label them as "slave owners depriving a man from playing for a club he's a fan of".

Why quote the daily star in the first place? The express, mail, sun, mirror all make this crap up.

In fairness the Mail has some bullshitters and some genuine sources. If its from Ladyman or Samuels its generally trustworthy. If its from simon jones or anyone else, its probably bullshit. Those two are some of the more high profile journos around & neither has any interest in attaching their name to nonsense.

Samuels doesnt generally do transfers, just opinion pieces. The mail only ever get a transfer right when all the legit outlets start confirming.

The mail, express, sun, star, mirror and even the independant make stuff up.

Paul Hetherington saying we are back in for him. Been on United in Press recently but works for the Star so doubt he's reliable.

They say it's £30M now. If anything, I always believe he's rightfully worth what we paid for Rio long ago.

Is there a way we can also send them one of younger centerbacks on loan to them along with the cash (i.e. use the same approach we did with Berbatov)? I'm sure it would be a good experience to give someone a taste of continental football while United would give an extra incentive for Dortmund to sell.

It is 0 right now. He is not for sale. There are players that are happy with their club right now - and the clubs are happy with them.

And they have 4 good central defenders. Subotic, Hummels, Ginter and Sokratis - 3 stand-outs for their national teams and a younger player that was in the rooster for the German national team...

It would take roughly £40-50 m to get him this year...assuming BVB would sell, and I cannot see them wanting to sell and the player seems happy there. If we are spending £35m + on a cb benatia is available and is close to hummels in terms of his skill level/abilities.

Please let's just sign Knoche, Sule or Tah instead. Hummels will be almost impossible to get..

Unless you want to insult our officials, no.

In general, we won´t play the academy for elite clubs. We have outgrown that level quite some time ago. If we loan (and we do very rarely), we only do it in combination with a moderate buy clause similar to the case of Sahin. The last club, who wanted to send a player for education to us was Barcelona with Deulofeu and this deal died as soon as they did not offer such a clause.

Even if we would loan, who do you want us to take? Even without Hummels we would have two players of International class (Subotic/Sokratis) and the biggest German defender talent Ginter. I personally don´t even see more promise in your youngsters than in our own highly rated talent Marian Sarr, who is right now the 5th choice in the central defense. Whoever you would send would probably not even make it in the squad.

I don't know of many examples, but I'm pretty sure the Mail announced we were signing Powell a day or two before any other news outlet.

Even papers like the Guardian will have stuff which is made up, and they will cover this by saying 'according to reports'. A lot of the time, the 'report' stemmed from a paper like the Express (who have never and never will have any concrete info on transfers) which is then also reported by a shite foreign paper. This will keep going until eventually someone like the Guardian picks it up and uses the phrase 'according to reports'.

Also, shite papers will continue to make this shitty Hummels link because people keep reading about it/giving them hits.

I dont hold the guardian in high regard either, they write to their own agenda across the paper.

Most papers can pick up on a transfer a few days before its announced, who gets there first doesnt really matter. I think the Herrera deal was sniffed out quickly by the mirror or mail. Those articles generally have strong confirmation in them.

But of all the papers the ones i quote twaddle tittle tattle on a daily basis.

Guardian or Independent, they do the same thing.

The Powell one was a little bit random though. I don't remember us being linked with him at all until the Mail story and then a day or two after we signed him. Fact is, some of the reporters do have a bit of concrete knowledge.

Not a chance of this happening..
Every player has his price, it depends on how much we are willing to pay? Kagawa going back plus 10m would do it I think. We have a chance, it's definitely a possibility if the player fancies it. If we are actually in for him that is?

lol wut?

They don't even need Kagawa, or the money for that matter. We'd have to slap down 40m minimum just to get them to the table imo.

Kagawa is rated at about £10-15, hummels would cost at least £40. Plus after losing Gotze last year and Lewa this year, why would they want to sell for anything less than a record fee...I can see them asking for £50m for hummels.

I disagree mate on the £50M? I like Hummels but he's not worth that, nobody in Europe would pay that imo. He had a great World Cup and that raised his value but not by that much.

Granted every player does have a price... But honestly I just can't see Hummels leaving this summer.

Dortmund won't want to lose any more stats which will make them hard to negotiate with. Hummels quotes on Money/trophies.

Kagawa would cost say 15m and I believe Klopp would welcome him back, speaks very highly of Shinji. 25m at least plus Kagawa in my opinion. Probably even more to get them to sell, could be 50m all in..

Kagawa is the key to any potential deal here imo. You are right in saying it would be hard to negotiate with them. They have lost many stars in the last few windows, fair point.

Psg just paid 50m for Luiz, I know that's a crazy price but BVB would be crazy to sell him for anything less, especially this summer.

You are assuming they still rate kagawa...reus is playing through the centre this year with mikatarian at the LW.
Kagawas spot is gone, he would be a back up there as well.

Klopp has spoken about him fondly since he left, several times. The fans feel the same way about him as we do about Ronaldo. They even had a cringy petition to bring him back last Summer. Reus could leave next Summer with that release clause. Kagawa was the best player in Germany when he left Dortmund. Klopp knows how to get the best out of him unlike us. They definitely would take him back, the jerseys he would sell in Asia alone. That would be smart business for them financially imo. If they would be willing to sell Hummels, I wouldn't be surprised if he was part of the deal.

People here just get ridiculously carried away - I think it's some weird defence mechanism to protect against getting too excited about a transfer (which in a way is fair enough given our transfer record over the last few years.) I remember one guy saying we'd have a better chance of getting Messi than we would Gundogan.

Good, because we have no intention to sell. This is not about Hummels´ worth on the market, but the amount which would be needed for us to completely change our stance in that matter.

And the whole Kagawa topic in relation to this signing gets really tiring, because not only do people overrate his role at Dortmund back then (he was not even the best Dortmund player that season, let alone the whole league) but also the length we would go to get him back now.

The Japanese has not played on his personal top level for two years now and would most likely not even get in the starting formation. Hummels on the other hand is our most important lead player. The supporters would be rightfully enraged if our officials would accept a deal like you proposed.

Has just been named Dortmund captain. Reus as vice-captain and Weidenfeller acting as the third captain.
