Yeah except I didn't say that, I said there are more financially stable clubs.
Are you seriously telling me that the following quote doesn't imply that Dortmund isn't financially stable?
If anything I'd take a more financially stable clubs word over Dortmunds crazy yet brilliant managers.

If so, I'm sorry. Good that you cleared that up before @Sphaero showed up.

I was kidding. ;)
I know, me too and I get the feeling @Sphaero will hate me now for tagging him again :(

They are stable yes, but there are club like ours that can blow them out the water multiple times over. Then theres he likes of Juve who have many more sellable and Hu v have value assets than Dortmund who once they sell Hummels and Reus the well starts to look pretty dry.

Hummels' pace isn't much of an issue at all, really. If a slug like Mertesacker can look capable in the league, what do you think of Hummels- a quicker, far more intelligent and technically capable player? He also looked very good in Germany's high-line, he was only caught out once or twice against Argentina, but that was against Messi so it's hardly a bad thing.

He made 3/4 Luizesque errors in the finals. Got away with them though. Against Ghana as well got done for pace a few times with the high line by Asamoah Gyan.

He is a very good player and can obviously cope with a high line as well which he has played for Dortmund but his lack of athletic ability prevents him from being as good as people think he is. Plus he has a mistake or 2 in his game as well. Things similar to which people will call out Vertonghen and the likes for far more because they play for less successful teams etc..

Is Hummels better than Pique?

Right now definitely yes.

Pique has declined over the last 2 seasons fair bit and gotten even slower than he was. But Hummels right now is like Pique from 3/4/5 years ago.

Both pretty good and ball playing defenders but both bit overrated. (Though Hummels has a added bonus of being a leader as well.)

Yeah. Being the Nr.2 club in the richest country in europe(de facto perhaps the world) is really tough. Growing TV money, getting 2 or 3 big German companies to buy parts of the club for great money.
Yeah, poor Dortmund....
The PL was never and will never be the only place where money goes big. Some should really have heard the shot by now. 4 German clubs in the KO rounds in the CL for the first time. Dortmund in the last 2 years had a CL final and the last 8.
Fox money will come, the home tv money grows 50 % from 2013 to 2017 and so on.
AND Dortmund is something you cant buy or only for big money; they are winners. They proved it and so on.
Dont worry about Dortmund. No PL and no other league will blow it out of the water.;)

P.S. Man, Im defending Dortmund again. Feel so dirty.

Pique has a good reason why he's slow the last 2 seasons, great reason actuality

Hummels is a long long way off from the world's best CB he's a brilliant player, yes. But people need to reign in their hype for this guy and realise 20-25m is about the right price.

He hasn't exactly had the most amazing last couple of seasons With Dortmund leaking goals at the back being a big part of their recent slump and having to push hard to get closer to Bayern and yet still finishing 17 points behind them.

He's a ball playing CB his skills lie in anticipation and distribution, his defensive qualities don't quite match up with the likes of Kompany, Silva or even Verane. Now I personally would love him at United, I think we need a player like him, smart, organised and technically gifted at the back. Beforehand Ferdinand was that player for us with bags of experience. He's my dream CB signing to bring more assurances at the back.

He'll almost certainly leave Dortmund at some point and I think right now would be the wisest time to sell him from Dortmund point of view. Off the back of winning the WC his value will be at its upmost peak. Having said that they will be lucky to break 30m and I think it would only happen if a bidding war ensued.

Yes we all think Dortmund are this unflappable team and when they say they aren't selling (which they haven't so far) they really mean it. If anything I'd take a more financially stable clubs word over Dortmunds crazy yet brilliant managers.

For me this is as nailed on as Vidal.

Literally everything you say in that post is wrong :D

Apt username.

I honestly feel for him every time I see the thread getting bumped. By now he should have most of his posts in here saved up on his PC and just copy+paste them every now and then.

Love how Solid's name was changed though, apt username. His tagline cracks me up every single time as well.

Nah, no worries, mate ;)

Although, when I saw my name tagged four times in this thread I actually expected something interesting here and instead I witnessed "that". I honestly don´t know what I´m expected to do now. Rip that post apart passage for passage? I´m not gonna do that because I don´t see a reason for that. Nobody takes that post seriously anyway. Most of it is not worth a discussion, because it is not a differing opinion to mine, but just factually wrong.

we presumably want Hummels, Dortmund presumably want Kagawa back.
We're overstocked in Kagawa's position.

it's obviously too simplistic to work an obvious solution out here.

Yeah, problem is that we want to keep Hummels several times more than getting another player for the offensive midfield.

Our pre season so far, which looks like us seriously considering a 4-4-2 for some games in the upcoming season does not make that deal any likelier, because it gets rid of Kagawa´s favoured position.

This deal did seem the least likely of the 3.The infamous Vidal, Di Maria, Hummels triple.
And those other 2 are bloody unlikely enough as it is!

I honestly believe the post deserved some sort of response, definitely not that one though  . But it's just too beautiful to ignore.

Ramos is dirt.
If you are comparing him to defenders of the past fair enough, although dirt is a massive overreaction and not true at all. Going by todays standards of defenders, he is definitely world class and one of the better defenders around. His performances vs Bayern and atletico in the final were immense this year. He definitely has flaws in his game that make him susceptible to mistakes and was poor in the first half of the season. However once the defence was much better organized in 2014, he improved also.

The rumour going around this morning is that Arsenal also want him.

Do you guys think that we can use Kagawa as bait for this deal? Or do we want to keep Kagawa after his performance yesterday?

Personally I love Kags but we also need Hummels so

Can we please stop with the Kagawa rumours. Dortmund have stated several times now that they aren't interested in him.

This isn't going to happen.

They lost Lewandoski this summer and are going to lose Reus next summer.

They're not Southampton, they are a competitive Champions League club. There are other options at more reasonable prices than what Dortmund will demand for Hummels. It's that value word but why spend upwards of £40m on Hummels when others are available for £25m? I really like Hummels but I'm bing realistic. It's a complete no go.

Arsenal can feck off to be honest! If he is gonna be sold and that's a big if, then I have no doubt we will move heaven and earth to get him. He is the one name that has been a constant throughout the transfer rumours. I don't think we will but it would be funny just to see that mad Dortmund bird on twitter have a complete paddy about it!

I agree!

Realistically speaking, what other CB targets can we go for that could turn out to be a leader at the back like Kompany, Hummels and Vidic?

Fabian Schar. Been flying under the radar a bit like Vidic in 2005. But he's an immense goalscoring centreback and has been so for a while. Wouldn't mind us signing him instead TBH, wouldn't cost more than 10 million, a great strategist in defence and only 22 years old so has plenty of time to elevate his game. Infact I think at one point, Dortmund were looking at him as a Hummels replacement.

I don't really watch him at all so I have no clue how good he really is but the simple fact that Senderos, Von Bergen, and Djourou were above him in the pecking order at the start of the World Cup is a bit worrying.

They weren't before though. Don't know why Hitzfeld did this at the WC and I think he got criticism for it. He is a right-footed centre-half with good vision from what I've seen.

Hmm I'm afraid that's not indicative of a player's level. Some national managers give preferential treatment to certain players and OH made a few really weird selections in this World Cup. Also for eg. Scolari took Alves and Maicon over Rafael and kept persisting with Fred, del Bosque kept playing Casillas and Xavi despite having de Gea or Koke, Portugal with Meirelles, Sven preferred Lampard and Gerrera over Scholes etc. National teams don't mean a lot when it comes to judging someone's potential.

So you bump a thread that hasn't been posted in for almost 24 hours just to tell us to move on from something which by the looks of it we've already moved on from.

This transfer is at least as likely to happen as Vidal IMO
