We're a joke in CM. Takin Carrick & Herrera out of the equation - we've feck all options but to play the same players all the time, not to mention when players get injured over the course of the season - we're scrapin it again.

We need quality competition in all areas of the pitch if we want to compete for the title - not 4th spot. F*ck those ambitions. Get title-challenging players in now & go for a domestic sweep. Thats the United Way!

I had to choose Vidal as he is alot more important than Hummels at this point in time for us, because for me if we can keep them fit, Evans, Jones, and to a lesser extent Smalling can do a decent job in defense, who do we have in midfield that can do a job with Carrick now out? Herrera that's it, and even he will need time, unless we start to play players out of position we are just desperate in midfield, less so in defense, and that's still looking dodgy at best.

Vidal, Blind, Vermaelen, & Strootman (now please) is what I reckon, but even this could still leave us short.
 
Not that it's happening but the prices being rumoured would be fair for one of the best CBs in the world. Whatever weaknesses he has (fwiw every player has weaknesses) he is still one of the best in the world and he is about to enter his prime.

IMO it's a fair price.

Well some reports today were ridiculous. Some as low as £16m.
The prices people are debating are purely hypothetical but surely more realistic. £30m+.

I'd get Suarez to bite his hand off for £16m. I don't think we'll get him but I'd be willing to pay the more realistic prices as well.
 
Hummels for 16m, Vidal for 32...

Either the papers know something we don't or they're grossly underrating these players.

Yes, plenty of times. He hardly made any mistakes last season? Or are you going off the World Cup when he wasn't fit yet still probably the best CB at the tournament?

Hummels would walk, no, he'd crawl into our first 11 with ease.

would love it to be true, but 16 million? really is anyone believing that? if your gonna make up a story at least make the price tag realistic.

There's no evidence been shown that they can. We need to replace Rio & Vida - thats the end of it!

Vidal, Strootman & Carvalho (for the right price of course) are a must in my opinion, as all are most likely available right now. This is our chance to massively upgrade our CM & its us set for years to come in CM.

Hummels & De Vrij would be sweet for CB's & Vermaelen would be an upgrade on Jones & Smalling - who both could be considered for transfer out this window. Not United standard whatsover!

Just my opinion at the end of the day, but our options in those positions are atrocious at the moment!!

I am only reading could have cost. Did Messi score? Hate to be pragmatic about this, but since you do the same. I said I can't recall his last big mistake, which in my eyes results in a goal, something like Vidic against Torres or Ferdinand against Bellamy in that 4:3. I actually want us to sign him, because I believe he is one of the best centre-halves.

I disagree

I think defence is has important as midfield to strengthen, look at the depth we have at the back
RB - Rafeal
CB - jones smalling evans
LB shaw

That is it, that is our only defensive options going into the new season if no one comes in. Midfield has numbers, but the numbers are some of the worst united midfielders for different reasons I have seen since watching united since 2004.

When your midfield consists of carrick herrera fletcher cleverly anderson fellaini valencia nani zaha young janazaj kagwa mata powell

That is a dire set of options, we may or may not sign the right players. But at this moment in time, the squad is still short of depth and quality, hopefully players will leave, and we bring in 3 defenders if keane and james are not breaking through our academy this year, and 2 midfielders that we need to add quality to the starting 11.

What drives me nuts, we have maybe have 5 to 6 number 10's in our squad
 
In regards to the strange fee that's speculated, I'm just gonna point out that there has been stranger transfers before.

Perhaps there is a low buyout clause we're not aware of? 20m would be a steal for Hummels no doubt but you can't rule anything out in football. Just because he's "worth" 35-50m in most peoples minds does not mean that he will go for that fee.

Well this "strange" transfer rumour has just been put to bed by Klopp: He has said that Hummels and Reus aren't moving anywhere this summer and that the £16m for Hummels rumours are total garbage.

If Woody got us both of those for 48m we should build him a statue outside Old Trafford, maybe even name a stand after him too!
 
I wonder if signing him would mean Jones playing in midfield more often. Evans would be Hummels partner I assume and smalling needs games too (and I hate smelling at right back). I'm not ss uncomfortable with Jones in midfield as many are, he's put in some seriously good performances there. I really hope will sign another cm, if not Herrera and Jones isn't bad.
 
Klopp has already officially come that out saying that he almost wet himself with laughter when he was told that Man Utd was signing Hummels for 16 Million and yet there is still clowns on here that believe it will happen
 
How is Vidal at £32m underpriced? In Euro terms, the only CM's that cost more were Veron and Mendieta in the ultra boom summer of 2001.

Chris Smalling has shown on dozens of occasions that he can defend at centre half. Absolute fact.

Hummels for £16m just made our local 11 O'Clock news. As ridiculous as the the alleged fee is, it's getting a fair bit of play across this side of the pond.
 
£16m for Hummels is a joke. I would call this as big insult to Hummels and Dortmund.

How much does Luiz cost again?
 
I can't believe the £16m rumors for one second, no matter how many times i see it reported unless there's some significant fees afterwards to be paid or a player swap involved. I mean Luiz sold for between £40m and £50m, and lets face it Hummels is much better as a CB. I wouldn't be surprised if we managed to give them an offer they were tempted with, but its going to be a lot more than £16m, and i still find it hard to believe they'd sell him or he'd want to move anyway.
