Mathys Tel

Don't really want another unproven, young striker. We need goals and don't see him being the answer.

Tasty player. I'd assume we would want an option to buy but even if we don't it's a rare opportunity. I thought Ferguson was going out on loan this window too? It's almost like it's hard to break through as a young striker these days even if you're very highly rated

I'd take him if we have even an outside shot. We're desperate for a bit of quality in attack and we have nothing on the bench while Rashford remains exiled

Not seen lots of him, but he could slot in nicely as the left 10?

Not for me, we don't need anyone's projects, we're struggling with our own.

What type of forward is he ?
Originally was seen as a striker, but actually more often played on the wing for Bayern. Which I guess is part of the reason why he is leaving - he struggled to really nail down a position. Last season he was a super-sub for Bayern to replace/support Kane for some weeks, I guess that was his best run of games. As a starter he never really impressed I think.

We desperately need some pace and penetration. He would be a great signing. Are they looking to sell or take on loan?

Thanks.

Surely not :/ last two striker we signed were young with not great goal scoring records. Surely the last sort of profile we should be looking at for those front positions.

He’s the sort of player Chelsea can’t resist signing, some sort of deal with Nkunku going the other way to Bayern.

Yay more young strikers that we have no patience with.
How much patience would you like the fanbase to have with Hojlund. What would it require for you to think he's not the level required.

Genuine question, because it would be interesting to see what your parameters are besides the fact that he's young.

Agreed. This is a not for me also, we need somebody at least semi proven with experience. Hojilund and Zirkzee should be living, breathing evidence that these signings are a huge risk unless you already have a top striker at the club.

I don't think he's what United should be looking for. There are reasons he has never made it further than being a substitute, and has fallen down the hierarchy even there. He's gotten only 400 minutes this season, accounting for one single assist in that time. He has shown a few moments of brilliance here and there that show that he does still have a good chunk of talent, but most of his playtime is best described as "trying, but struggling".

Would love to be proven wrong, but I think United can do better than picking up yet another youngster with some talent that might not ever come to anything. Not like they have cash to spare on experiments.

Wouldn't the main ones be having the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane ahead of you as the main options at your position?

Don't genuinely think any 17-19 year olds in the world would ever not be a bench/squad option behind those 2

Tel wasn't at Bayern when Lewandowski was there. He came in at the same time that the other left. Kane came in a full year later in summer '23.

And as was already said in the thread, Bayern mostly used him wide, most often on the left, where there wasn't nearly as much as an established, reliable player in front of him. Coman constantly struggles with injuries, Gnabry and Sané are rollercoasters in terms of quality and have been struggling for more than enough time to give Tel a chance to establish himself as first pick or at least a frequently used squad player if he had made more of the chances he had been given. But Tel has been overall unconvincing and inconsistent so things are what they are now, and he's only getting very sporadic appearances on any of the four attacking positions.

Not for me. I don’t think hes the right profile for the #10 that RA is looking for. He’s much more of a winger (likes to occupy the same positions as Rashford) than an inside #10. Not fully convinced of his technical ability either, but that could be down to him not playing particularly well whenever I’ve happened to watch him.

I remember a few months or a year back that Tel said he wanted to play as a striker more than a winger.

I think he only played as a winger because Bayern had more strikers in their prime.

Henry was on Juve’s bench?
