I still think devilish witnessing the hairdryer is the best work of caf fiction though
Great another No10.
He's not a No10 but carry on
What is he? A centre midfielder? We don't play a formation for a player like him he will either get Anderson'd or play as a number 10. But i'm sure you can explain....
he can play like an anderson because he can actually tackle, and unlike anderson he's already well on his way to fulfilling his talent, he's got comparative traits in that both liked and were very good at driving the ball down the field from deep, but Kovacic is just much better. In saying that, i always highly rated Anderson for this quality, so it's not a knock. What is he? A centre midfielder? I'm of the frank opinion he's ready to be one of the 10 best midfielders in the world, even last season. He's got everything, he just needs a team and a coach that trusts him. Strammaccioni trusted him, but didn't have the team to bring the best out of kovacic, even though Kovacic was already aboslutely superb. Mazzarri could possibly provide him with a setup that suits Mateo, but Mazzarri has no trust in talented younger players, relying rather on the likes of Kuzmanovic, Taddei, technically, players that are far lesser then Kovacic, but with more seniority, experience, and quantifiable value. Mazzarri likes playing those types of players, he ignored the likes of Insigne when he was at Napoli after all. Kovacic being benched is definitely not indicative of his ability one bit.He played as defensive midfielder for Croatia few times IIRC, and he played in pretty much every position in midfield for Inter. Would like to see him here, but I don't think he is quite ready to be that special midfielder for us yet, and I am not sure if Inter would sell him.
Please be true. I have nightmares of him going to Liverpool. He would complete their team.
Top, top, top talent. Has the ability to be the best midfielder in the world. Inter have already taken our captain, and are looking at our vice-captain and Evra it seems. Just give us Kovacic and call it even.

I agree with your sentiments about him having the talent to be the best midfielder around, but i'm not sure we need him, with Coutinho playing deeper nowadays, and the return of Suso if all things go to plan i see as a similar player to Kovacic in the long run.
He would be best going to United, and i myself have nightmares of seeing him blossom into a world class player at your club if you do sign him.
I think he has the capacity to play deeper than Coutinho/Suso. Central midfield is the one area where your next signing will determine just how far you go as a team. Gerrard needs replacing soon, and if you get that wrong, it will hold back the progress of the rest. Kovacic can come in and be the 8 in your team and the new heartbeat for years to come.
The most worrying thing is that he seems the exact sort of player Rodgers would go for.
It was neither. No one on the cafe has ever said left footer's shouldn't take penalties.Yes... I think it was just as a left footer scored a penalty
and he said somthing about showing what rubish a stupid theory about left footers not taking penalties was.
was it the chief (kemo) or devilish who came up with that theory - im sure it was one of them

do you think Suso is good enough defensively? offensively he's got all this talent, and his dribbling is superb, but i don't think he's a complete midfielder ready to shoulder responsibility and apply workrate to both ends of the field. He doesn't have alot of strength or size either, kovacic is a sturdy 5'11 with speed and balance, and a proven appetite for defensive work.Suso will end up as a number 8.
The replacement of Gerrard is not that big of a deal, we have Henderson Allen who are at good ages, Coutinho Suso Rossiter Texieira will all come through in the next few years as well, i guess its hard to see it though from the outside looking in, but all those i mentioned have the capacity to replace Gerrard in certain ways, you'll never get a like for like replacement, i love Kovacic but of course i would rather see us a promote a player from our own reserve team for sentimental reasons.
Suso will need to up his defensive game dramatically to be a midfielder for us. At last viewing, it was close to non-existent.
He's one to invest in, but certainly not to the extent that I'd be passing up a central midfielder who can compete for a first XI spot, and likely even improve it,for him.
Not really actually.
I mean did you imagine Coutinho turning out to a decent option at CM having only ever really played on the left and in the hole his whole career. In fact Suso has more experience playing as a CM as Coutinho, he played there for the Spain u19's, and played there as well as on the right in the u20's world cup. He doesn't need to be a Roy Keane incarcerate to be in our midfield or indeed replace Gerrard, he does need to start pressing more efficiently but as we've seen this season things like that can be learnt. For what its worth he probably has more bite to him than Coutinho, the latter handled himself pretty well against Arsenal and in a derby playing as a CM.
Kovacic is hardly incredible defensively himself, it is his powerful dribbling close control and his vision he is known for not his contributions on the defensive end. He averages 1.3 tackles per game, Suso averages 1.5 playing in a wider position. To Kovacic's credit though, he does have an incredible physical stature coupled with his technical ability where you could see him becoming dominant on the defensive end as well when he matures but in terms of positioning his tackling and his overall reading of the game and understanding of the CM position he isn't any more mature than Suso or Coutinho like them he is still a work in progress.
Its also worth remembering someone like Coutinho went from on loan to Espanyol, to straight into our first team, not beyond Suso to do the same, he has as much natural talent. We have a lot of talents in our team and reserves, some very good ones in that CM position, as well as having the likes of Allen and Henderson who are still very, i rate Kovacic but i don't think given the talent we have if we do decide not to bid for him its something that we will end up regretting as i back a couple of the young players to have to go on to be top class as well even if they become lesser players, if anything i would be in favour of us doing a Chelsea and signing him just to ensure he doesn't go to one of our rivals.
no markovic? that was pretty funny to me. markovic is talented and i watched him a couple weeks ago on some recommendations, but he's just your typically talented attacking player, good dribbler, agile, very quick, but really? nothing exceptional. we see these types of players every year emerge as the new hotshot exciting talent. i think markovic is not a typical cliche, he's talented but...Very talented kid.
But hes no Lazar Markovic.
That kid will be a future star.
Mark my words.
you're missing the context, kovacic is only averaging 45 minutes per game this season. last season as a starter he was averaging closer to 2.4 tackles a game, 3 tackles a game in the europa league.
he's not a midfield stackhouse like strootman would be, but he's more then competent as a defensive player at the pivot role, or as a duo midfielder, He's not a liability for his lack of tackling ability, he's a decent enough tackler.
also the suso comparison to coutinho's time at espanyol... well coutinho was just electric in spain, he made his talent obvious to everyone. even despite how glaringly obvious it was how much talent he had, and showed, he was moved to you guys for a bargain because a simply even more talented player in kovacic who played the some position (at the time, remember, he was a amf out of dinamo), was acquired in the winter.
suso has not been that outstanding at almeria, so i don't know how him being on loan means anything, he's proven very little in spain, and has not developed himself very much. He's very very talented, but he's shown he's not as talented to the same degree as coutinho, or an even more impressive player in kovacic.

i say coutinho was electric at espanyol because i watched him play pretty often, and that's what he was. he showed what a crazy dribbler he could be, and despite his stats, he was very effective as a player.Remember i compared him to Wilshere before, i know he can play as a pivot, i was just saying his defensive side of the game is hardly as proficient as other parts of his game. For what its worth i think he will be better than the two i'm comparing him to, but not by so much that we would regret not going for him if he was to come on the market. Kovacic is a more talented player than Coutinho, but he hasn't ever played as good as Coutinho in that number 10 role, you may be right about the reason for him being moved on, but it just goes to show that Moratti is an idiot at times, in an ideal world you would play the two of them with a robust defensive mid beside/behind them.
Susos loan time hasn't been too different from Coutinhos, who told you he was electric? He had a decent spell nothing groundbreaking, in fact in terms of output, Suso has bettered him, Coutinho was on loan to a better side and there isn't too much disparity between the twos performances.
He is as talented as Coutinho for me, i've seen a great deal of both of them as a Liverpool fan, they both have some standout qualities, where they better each other, and other qualities like their dribbling which is pretty close. Suso is a better long passer why many see him ending up as a deep lying playmaker in the mould of Pirlo, Coutinho probably has a better final pass in terms of technical ability they're very close.
