Gaming Mass Effect: Andromeda (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Doesn't matter if it's half life 3, don't pre-order ever!

Until we stop promising money up front, they'll continue to take the piss with half arsed efforts like this.

I don't get preordering anyway, not like they are gunna run out is it.

Stock was an issue maybe over a decade ago so it made sense for people to put a pre-order deposit down to guarantee picking the game up on day 1.

This is of course not relevant today, so instead they dangle incentives in front of us like "day 1 dlc", bonus map/weapon packs etc. Soon enough half the content of AAA games will be locked behind a pre-order pay wall

I've just thought of another thing that annoys me; your ability to change classes. They set it up with this wishy washy story and it takes away any need to think tactically about what type of character you want to have. And again it's just another example of the fan fiction "you're great at everything" rubbish :(

Any likeable characters like Garrus or Joker or is it just another scanning planet simulator ? Is being trans-lesbian in space an exciting thing ? When's the Flat Earth DLC coming out ?

Reviewers are saying that Peebee is the best, and from some gameplay I looked, she was the equivalent of Jacob/Kaiden/Vega, with tits.

Yep this. I said earlier in the thread - this isn't an RPG anymore. They were too afraid to even make us select a class - instead they dumb it down.

I also don't like how you can only have 3 powers at any time mapped to your controller - you have to change profile or what its called to get a different 3 sets of powers. What a drawback :(

And don't get me started on not being able to control your AI team mates now...

I hear ya brother. Perhaps the GOTY edition will be worth something. Sometimes they tend to come up with surprisingly good stuff a year after the initial release.

The 40 million budget had to go somewhere other than promoting stuff irrelevant to the vast vacuum of space.

I wonder how much the lack of these options is down to a poor and limited engine more than anything, or rather the developers not using it properly? Otherwise it's such a stupid change to make.

I was watching something yesterday that mentioned how the gameplay changes and improved mechanics in ME3 meant that they had to remove weapon holstering because the 360 and PS3 had memory limitations.

Or, maybe it was just buggy as hell!

Was it this? Great series!

Is it true you can't make a white person in the character creator?
You can. The character creator is meant to be shit though

For some reason it's meant to be a lot worse than the one in DA Inquisition

I just got an email saying that the game has been dispatched, then I checked the review scores. Hype deflated. Still sounds decent though.

Waiting to see. People who played it on EA access say it's a decent game. ME1 and ME 3 weren't perfect games yet got high 90s. 2 was the only perfect game in the series that deserved the high scores. ME 1 was my favourite but the combat wasn't great.

These same reviewers were giving high acclaim to Uncharted 4 the walking simulator, which was no match for 2. Even last guardian managed to get average score of 82 with the crappy camera and awful AI. So it's ashame they putting down mass effect for not being good as it's predacessors yet when it comes from one of their favourite developers they don't apply the same consistency.

It seems these reviewers always seem to give one publisher and console manufacturer more favouritism.

@Alock1 agrees with me.

I'm still pumped i was expecting lots of people to slag this off early either way, ME3 still gets so much lingering anger. The reviews seem quite even to me.

Most of these reviewers had excellent scores for previous entries in the trilogy. Heck, Inquisition got brilliant scores, and the way it has aged suggests it ought not to have.

Did you? Or are we just quoting articles from now on?

"Walking simulator" is like saying Mass Effect 2 is just a "space tourist simulator".

I'm not just quoting articles.

Go play the game. There is a lot of pointless sections where you just walking around doing nothing for like 10 minutes.

And no, ME2 actually had combat and it was very good.

Reviewers can't have a go at Andromeda for not being as good as previous games. Yet Uncharted 4 wasn't even close to Uncharted 2 yet they praised that to the hilt. Naughty Gods right? Even the morons on neogaf are realising it. There's like one thread every day saying how Uncharted 4 was overrated, boring and full of walking/climbing.

The new Mass Effect does look awfully boring but I agree with you on Uncharted 4 - hugely overrated game. In fact, I started it months ago and just can't be bothered to go back.

But I can still buy FIFA 17 day one edition now, and more often than not it is pointless bollocks.

I'm sorry, I hadn't realised that your word was law. My point was that you're taking one negative aspect of the game and using it to bash the entire thing, I thought that I was pretty clear with that.

Where did I say my word was the law pigeon?

That one negative aspect turns it into a boring game. So you know it's kind of a big aspect.

Why you getting so defensive? Jesus Christ, I've said I don't like Uncharted 4 about 100 times on these forums and it is one of the most overrated games ever. The gameplay is average and it's mainly a cinematic experience. That's my opinion.

Funny how you criticise me for being negative. Yet you sat in this thread and been negative about a game you ain't even played yet. Alright pigeon if that's how you want it.

That is some serious console warrior crap. Did Sony kill someone close to you?

Anyway, have you played the ME trial yourself? No? Well, I have and the writing is a steaming pile of crap and the gameplay cannot carry the game because it's nothing special. But don't take my words for it, I'm sure it'll be great. The reviewers are just mean.

A Bioware game where the writing is poor?? We are living in the end times..

I genuinely think this may be the first. Even DA2 was well written with good characters.

I guess the ending to ME3 was (extremely) poorly written, but the overall quality was very good leading up to that point. If this is an indicator of the level of writing talent that is left at Bioware then I worry for the future of the studio. It was literally their biggest strength since they were founded.

All the Uncharted games were overrated. They had shit combat.

I've not seen reviews slating ME:A for not being as good as it's predecessors, but I have seen plenty saying it's boring with incredibly bad writing. Which in an RPG with a ton of dialogue is a very bad thing.

Ah bit disappointed about hearing the fairly poor reviews this seems to be getting. I really loved the original trilogy but wasn't expecting too much anyway with this, after all these years and a likely very different team behind it. I'll play it when it turns up this week and probably enjoy it well enough I imagine, just not as much as the others.

I'm not too gutted though as it's the first game I've bought for my PS4 since Destiny:TTK
