Gaming Mass Effect: Andromeda (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Nah. This will sell very well. And the sequel won't take 5 years. Most likely 2/3 years.

Dragon Age 2 got average reviews and there was a sequel.
It might not. Look at all the good games out right now. If they released it another time then people would probably buy it despite the reviews, but now, I'm not so sure. I'm a huge ME fan but I've no intention of getting it until I play through Horizon and Persona 5.

Question: I only ever played ME1 and LOVED IT. KOTOR 1 and 2 are probably my favourite games on Xbox, so now I have a decision to make:

Replay ME1 and play 2 and 3, or buy Andromeda.

Is it worth it to play on Xbox One or will the games feel dated?
2 is amazing, 3 is good but it has a shit ending.

I think that in every sense it is better to play the trilogy.

This will sell more than both of those games. Both those games are exclusives don't forget.

I am pretty sure this will probably be the best selling game of this year so far.

Xbox users will definitely buy it. They ain't got Nier, Nioh, Horizon, Yakuza or Persona 5 to play.

Xbox users, you mean all 5 of them? :p

PC users will more than likely be their biggest buyer.

Don't think it'll outsell Horizon, it sold 2.7m in its first week, a similar amount to UC4 which ended up selling 9m, no Mass Effect has ever sold that much.

Hot.

Doubt it. Mass Effect has never sold that much. The entire trilogy has sold around 10m which is as much as The Witcher 3, and around half as many copies as Skyrim or Call of Duty: Infinitely Shit.

Now, they will get new sells from people who were too young to play the old games, and now want some sci-fi modern game, but at the same time, a lot of old fans of BW won't get it.

Horizon sold in the first week as much as this game will sell entirely IMO.

I really hopes it bins in sales and forces BioWare to go back to its roots. Hopefully with Karpyshyn as the main man in the new game.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 were exclusives to Xbox. ME2 made 2m in sales during its first week.

3 had double the sales of both of those games. That's not including PC sales.

So I don't agree it won't sell. If the reviews were published last week then that could have impacted the sales. I don't think it will have a big impact with it coming out in America today. And a lot of online orders being shipped out yesterday in the UK. Plus most the user feedback has been fine. Reddit, rllmuk and those morons on neogaf seem to be talking about it positively.

It never sold that much because the first two games were basically Xbox exclusives. The third game did pretty well. And they never released PC figures.

That's not what I said though. I said it was unlikely to become the biggest game of the year and might not sell as well as it could have due to the negativity and other games out right now.

It'll probably do well enough for them to make a profit, but probably not as well as they'd have projected.

I'm a bit more confident on this now. Some positive impressions from peeps playing it on GAF (a gaming forum) so I'm more optimistic now.

It was never going to be the biggest game of the year regardless if it had 99 on metacritic or 43. That is going to be Red Dead Redemption if it comes out this year.

I originally said it will sell very well and you said it wouldn't. Yes I know you didn't say it won't sell. I mean one person is going to buy a copy.

You putting too much emphasis on reviews. If it was down to reviews then Nier would be the best selling game this month. 76 on metacritic isn't the disaster people are claiming it to be. But I played too much of the franchise that I ain't going to bother with reviews for this.

I do find it hilarious bioware getting stick for bugs and shit. Yet Bethesda get the biggest free passes in gaming history when it comes to reviews. They still somehow get the great reviews despite releasing buggy messes. None of these journalists dare call them out on it because maybe next time they won't get their pip boy edition or whatever they come up with next time.

I remember reading about the fallout 4 bugs from reviews. Besides they are very different games. Bethesda make massive open world games. Should that mean bugs are acceptable? hell no - but it is easier to excuse compared to a game like Mass Effect which has far far less open world stuff.

Mass Effect is a pretty ambitious game, I'm not really sure it's fair to say that Fallout is a great deal more so due to it's open world nature alone - there's a lot more than that. Plus, the nature of the bugs in Fallout and the likes could have a more intrusive effect than the ones I've seen in Mass Effect so far.

I meant biggest of the year so far, not overall.

I definitely think reviews will have an effect, not a huge one, but they will, a lot of people are canelling pre-orders and holding off for a while. It will probably sell well eventually when patches are released etc. but I don't think it'll sell as well at launch.

Yeah, don't disagree with that.

This is apparently 100+ hours long, it's bigger than anything Bethesda have made.

Fallout 4 getting an 88 on Metacritic has me scratching my head, I was really let down by the lack of player choice and the side missions got boring very quickly (the settlement system was a joke). Anyway; the more I see of Andromeda the less confident I get and that's why I'm so negative right now. I suppose it depends on what you're willing to spend time doing, because the game looks like it has a lot of content if you're willing to do the grinding - which I'm not anymore. With Mass Effect 2 I had no problem wasting a few hours gathering resources because I had the spare gaming hours in the week to do it, but if I have to do hours of fetch quests to fully complete a planet in Andromeda then I just won't put the time into it and spend the hours playing something that doesn't feel like a chore. I guess I'll find out if I like it on Thursday since I think I'm getting it as a birthday gift (after dropping constant hints about it for the last few months).

This is not 'bigger' than Skyrim my friend. It might take a while to complete - but that's purely because of shitty side quests like in DA:I

There is a big difference in making a game that takes place over 1 massive world / map to a game that has 7/8 'small' planets that don't interlink.

I wouldn't bother with any of them. As good as ME2 and 3 are, the ending to ME3 is so bad that it renders the story of the rest of the series pointless. Nothing you do matters. Andromeda looks pish too.

.

And Skyrim 'side quests' were better?

Fallout 4 was a poor game, especially after playing The Witcher 3. Bethesda really do get a free ride a lot of the time.

Seriously? Skyrim had it's fair share of shitty side quests and pointless wandering around.

Ok? We're all entitled to our opinions. That wasn't my main point anyway:

My main point was that whilst bugs should never be excused - There is a big difference in making a game that takes place over 1 massive world / map to a game that has 7/8 planets that don't interlink

Massivness isn't a compensation for content. And I found Fallout 4, despite the vastness, pretty boring. No, absolutely no idea why it got the reviews it got.

eh? Going massively off track now in the Mass Effect thread. We were discussing mass effect bugs and whether it's acceptable. Someone said how bethesda get away with it. My point is whilst it's not excusable - it's more understandable due to the nature of the world (compared to mass effect)

I do think that if this wasn't called Mass Effect the score would be 80+
Same goes for the older games. None were special enough to warrant the sort of critical acclaim they received. Very good games but not all time great games at all.

Each to their own. Personally MAss Effect 2 is one of my all time favourites. Incredible game.

ALso anyone who has ordered Andromeda through amazon - check your emails! Mine has just been dispatched.

My point was, that despite it's size, the world feels pretty....basic. Interchangeable. So, I'm not sure it's more excusable in the case of Fallout.

Witcher 3 sold 10 mil!?

On topic. Why do i want this even though the few hours ive seen looks mediocre? :nervous:

I just got this, and I'm looking forward to it despite the average reviews. I'm in the mood for a big game. I have not put 50 plus hours into a game since the Witcher 3.

Replay ME1, play 2. Skip 3.

Seems to be a big disappointment. It's sad to see what has become of Bioware. They used to be amongst the very best developers out there with Kotor, DA:O, The original Mass Effect games.
