Mason Mount's Many Misfortunes

crazy start to a season

we've spent like €180m this summer and are arguably weaker than last season

The sad thing is your opinion isn't that popular. If if were, we wouldn't have wasted £50m+ on him.

You contradicted your viewpoint in two sentence’s . That’s impressive.

By virtue of ‘wasting’ £50m+ on Mount, doesn’t that confirm he is either shite or not needed? Or both?

I’ll go with both.

Fellaini was a better signing than this one - as he at least offered ‘something’, while this useless waste of space offers nothing at all.

So we basically head into the Forest game now with the same team as last season, albeit with a keeper upgrade.

I get that the injuries are bad luck but surely a sign that we haven’t upgraded enough.
For a club like ours with big ambitions and no challenge for a decade 3 signings was always too low. We needed 5 first team signings imo to give the team a proper lift. So with two injuries out of three of course it seems like nothing has changed because it really hasn’t until those two come back and integrate.

I think a lot is made out of our spending but look at the players we’ve gotten off the books too.
Ronaldo
DDG
Pogba
Mata
Cavani
Lingard
And many more I’m sure I’m missing

Manchester Midfielder? I thought he was a goat.

Scape goat.

The onus is on our players to justify their transfer and position in the team. This doesn’t just apply to Mount - it extends through the entire team.

This thread, however, is about Mount. Mount has failed spectacularly to justify the above.

I’d afford him some leeway with my judgment if he came from another country/league, or he performed well at Chelsea or the national team prior to his arrival. Fact of the matter is, he’s been shite for some time, and we blew the good part of £50m on an underperforming player who doesn’t fit the profile of player we need, and worse still, in the final year of his contract. This is money we do not have.

You misunderstood my comment, brother. I was agreeing with you.

They’ve been dying to.
Yep, it was so blatant. I actually didn't think he was among our worst performers vs Spurs, particularly in the first half where his turnovers were key and he was recycling the ball well.
But he sure was painted like it.

Four four two did a video on what we at least seem to be trying to do. I'm not sure any of the players coming in for Mount will be able to replicate his role, Fred was probably the best fit.

So... another injury before we've even got started. That's two of the new signings unavailable. What the hell is going on?

It's a disaster of an injury, the timings awful. It'll make the anger when we still don't bring in another midfielder even worse.

It's absolutely ridiculous that one injury and we're down to a bare bones midfield. Club is mental if we don't bring in another midfielder.

I realise if Mainoo was fit he'd be an option, but he would be very much a youth option

Perhaps he was even carrying the injury all along because he's looked some way off even his normal level. Shouldn't come back until he has fully recovered. The best is yet to come.

In the meantime, surely we have to go and get a CM now right? Amrabat is practically on his knees begging. Sell Henderson, bin the stupid back-up keeper chase and let's go and get Amrabat.

Signing of the summer, right after his ex-colleague Havertz.

ANY player coming in for Mount can do what he's been doing. Doing feck all isn't a difficult thing to achieve.

I’m impressed with just how toxic the attitude is towards Mount, even by this places standards, to be this ridiculously against him already is pretty shameful.

I am sure they will find someone to transfer it onto. Hope they make sure he is fully fit when they bring him back.

I think it's great that you're applying your knowledge of hyperbole.

I take it you're happy with us losing to Spurs and being played off the pitch at home to Wolves.

Eh? And it is Mount's fault who was one of the rare players that ran his ass off? Are your posts a parody at this point?

It does feel like we put a little too many eggs in this basket. So now we're not just scrutinizing his performances but his fit and the tactics he was bought for. The latter just took the transfer into another stratosphere of risky. This feels like another one of those things a real hierarchy should have helped the manager prevent instead of just going along. To be clear Mount isn't the problem but he maybe shouldn't have been Plan a after what our midfield showed last season.

What a rough start to the season this has been. Players look off the pace, new signings carrying injuries, unable to lose the deadwood despite bids coming in, the ongoing pr disaster due to you know who, ownership issue dragging on.

Hopefully all the sweeter when we turn it around.

It's disappointment at the relatively poor start to the new season being displayed as anger towards a scapegoat.

When our shiny new marquee #7 signing manages the grand total of 14 passes and zero tackles from a central midfield position over 85 minutes, (whilst supposedly eager to impress), it's inevitable fans will find dismay.

The unfortunate and sad thing is - this is par for the course for the past few seasons with Mount. He's been dire for a good few years, yet, here we are throwing the bank at him, (when he has a single year left on his contract), and he is absolutely NOT the profile of player we need; nor does he have the footballing ability. Oh, and we've no money to spend. It would be acceptable if he was bought to sit on the bench as a squad player - but he wasn't bought for that.

Was he bought for commercialism? In the hope that he somehow becomes somewhat half decent and fans buy into him? I mean, he isn't ugly. . . I'm reaching here, because I cannot for the life of me see what anyone could see in this player and how he would be a good addition to our starting XI. He's shite.

Weghorts ran his ass off every time he played for us. Running around means absolutely nothing when you can't do anything with the ball. Mount made like 14 passes, had 26 touches and made no tackles when played in the central midfield position. What is even the point of running around madly? Can't Fred have done exactly the same thing?
