They were average when they won the CL?
They finished 4th by the skin of their teeth.

Have Mount’s wages been announced yet? If so what’s he on? Was the 250k - 300k number accurate?
If you've been supporting United for more than 20 years then the number 7 is significant. Just because the dickheads who own our club have made a mess of it recently, doesn't mean the tradition is no longer important.
No. Its 400k actually.Have Mount’s wages been announced yet? If so what’s he on? Was the 250k - 300k number accurate?
Martinez is a CB, he was only ever going to play CB. Mount is a 10/LW but you're saying he will play 8. Quite a different scenario. Let's see end of this season where he ends up/how he does - I don't doubt ETH might try it, I mean he played Shaw successfully as a CB but I don't see it working long term. It's extremely obvious that Mount will be taking Eriksen's place. Every report on this transfer has been clear that he is coming as our #8 signing and the profile of player completely aligns with how we started using our #8 in the second half of the season, which was pushing high alongside Bruno rather than deeper alongside Casemiro.
"Mount out wide" is this summer's "Martinez as a DM". It's not happening.
See above. I agree though, I don't see how it works but then I guess I trust ETH knows a lot more about football than me. Let's see end of the season. Hopefully I'm wrong and he's immense in there but I have big doubts. All the indications from the press and from the quotes from ETH indicate that he views Mount as a midfielder, albeit a versatile one. I have my doubts as to whether it will work but I'd be surprised if ETH doesn't start the season with him and Bruno as the 8s in front of Casemiro.
Otherwise, not sure where he would play - unlikely to bench Bruno or shift Bruno into Eriksen's deeper position and I doubt he'll be used as a LW either.
When has wages ever been announced officially ?Have Mount’s wages been announced yet? If so what’s he on? Was the 250k - 300k number accurate?

If we pay 60m for a midfielder and our strongest line up still has Eriksen there and Mount on the bench, god bless usIf everyone is fit I think our strongest line up still includes Eriksen over Mount - he's definitely upgradeable with someone like Caceido but I struggle to see it with Mount because he's just never really played that role and I doubt you can just slot into it despite being a very intelligent player. Case on his own (any player to be honest on their own) is super high risk. If we do see him there we are going to have to dominate the ball to the a similar level as City do because that midfield three in transition (Case/Mount/Bruno) is a disaster waiting to happen if we don't.
I can see Rashford being our 9 this season and Mount starting LW. For me we'd lack a lot of pace in the attack that way given Bruno, Mount and Antony are not that fast. Only other thing I guess we aren't discussing is Antony getting dropped for Mount given there are rumours he's got this reoccurring ankle issue so we'd have Rashford - Martial - Mount as a front three.
PR this. PR THAT! No good news ever exists it’s all PR I tell you! Believe NOTHING! (unless it’s bad news then we’re balls deep in that)
Ever heard of Bryan robson?
Before I address this, because it's already massively flawed, what is the source of stats? No Antony is fine off the ball and presses okayish. Mason Mount is genuienly excellent behind the ball.
Some stats, last season for all midfielders in the league Mount was -
- 94th percentile for tackles in midfield.
- 93rd percentile for tackles in the attacking 3rd.
- 86th percentile for dribbles stopped.
- 92nd percentile for success in tackling dribbles. (Meaning he is less likely to be dribbled past than 92% of midfielders. Trust me you don't want to see Eriksen or Fred's numbers here)
- 99th percentile for shots blocked (literally the best midfielder in the league)
Above average on passes blocked, interceptions, clearances and pressures.
Factually one of the best midfielders off the ball in the league, comparing him to Antony is easily disproven by stats in their relative positions. Don't get me started on Eriksen vs Mount for the same figures. The idea that you think our midfield will be less stable with him rather than Eriksen is patently absurd.

I mean we paid £75m for Sancho...god has not blessed our transfer dealings the last decadeIf we pay 60m for a midfielder and our strongest line up still has Eriksen there and Mount on the bench, god bless us
Robbo?ETH making it sound like Mount is prime Scholes or something.
A midfielder should never wear #7. This is a shambles!
Before I address this, because it's already massively flawed, what is the source of stats?
From what I remember, Best wore #11, #10, #8 and #7, but mainly #11.It might be a fecking number at other clubs but not for us, the number 7 to us means more than just a number, it means what the Number 10 means to Barca, it's means the most creative and electrifying player within our ranks.
Yes over the last 15yrs we've had players not fit to wear it, but that can't take away what the likes of Best, Cantona and Ronaldo(1st stint) did wearing that Number.
Imo this is a mistake that follows a long line of mistakes in regards with this number over the last decade or So, Mason Mount our Number 7, Piff give me a break,
I mean a player who isn't worth the amount of money we've just spent on him, a Player who isn't amazing at basically anything...?
I hope he proves me wrong but I strongly doubt it, best bet is in a year time he'll be demanding a shirt change Valencia style.
Garnacho for me was the obvious choice!
Robbo?
You must have been beaming with pride when Michael Owen donned the legendary shirt. If you've been supporting United for more than 20 years then the number 7 is significant. Just because the dickheads who own our club have made a mess of it recently, doesn't mean the tradition is no longer important.

That was unexpected and even though I don't care this will lead to even more drama if he turns out a flop. 55m fee, 250k wage, most symbolic back number...
So ten Hag and SAF are dickheads now?If you've been supporting United for more than 20 years then the number 7 is significant. Just because the dickheads who own our club have made a mess of it recently, doesn't mean the tradition is no longer important.
Should have told Robson that.ETH making it sound like Mount is prime Scholes or something.

Any adult who cares about shirt numbers is weird.
SAF offered Owen the #7 shirt. Glazers have feck all to do with deciding on who wears a bloody shirt number. They owned the club when he signed.
Average age in this thread is 7.
It's just sad the way we've cheapened the significance of the no.7 shirt. Another symptom of football losing it's soul, shirt numbers are now irrelevant.
