Mason Mount's Many Misfortunes (please don't make another waste of money post)

"The roof's leaking!"
Tbf he does look like one of those chain smoking painter and decorators that try and diddle old ladies out of their life savings on Rogue Traders.

Will the no. on the back of his jersey really add pressure for him? He doesn't play with it on backwards.
Of course it will. It's got history behind it, whether posters like it or not players with the #7 at United have added pressure from many fans/media/opposition.

The fact you seem to be comparing Rooney and Eto'o to Mount makes me think your username might be correct.

I can't see the source of the stats - it looks like Footystats but it's not because his numbers are much lower on there (68th percentile for blocked shot per 90) so unless we know that and can compare other players it's not particularly valuable.

Yes that is exactly what I was doing. I was saying Mount is as good as Rooney and Eto'o. That is a totally logical conclusion to draw from my post. Definitely not referencing famous players to highlight players who have been shunted out of position at all.

Not sure what to tell you mate. They are in front of your eyes, it's 442 and it's pretty obvious if you watch him regularly. I could talk about the fact you just posted heatmaps of Mount playing in the exact positions a modern 8 in an attacking side would play in last season as if to prove a point. I'll just leave it at talk to me at the end of the season.

To be fair, the no. 7 shirt lost a lot of its magic when we gave it to Owen and Valencia.

Mount will either do well or he won’t. His shirt number is a detail.

When I seen what number he got I knew this place would be up in arms about it. It's only a number for god sake. More average players have worn it than special players have. Get over it you bunch of weirdo's.

Lads what if we’re mis-reading the whole situation and he’s been brought in to play #1 and #9?

Tbf it's only half up in arms, the other half are taking the piss.

On one hand it's just a shirt number...on the other he better have 30 goals + 15 assists next season.

I like that he’s taken the number. I’m not going to piss my pants over a numeral, but it’s a confident move from his point of view.

Hopefully this works out. There are understandable doubts, but I think Ten Hag knows what he’s doing.

And who’s to say Mount won’t have a brilliant career at United and do the shirt proud?

Yeah, this is true tbf.

Hopefully he does well.

I think for lots of people it’s an underwhelming transfer and coupled with the fact a lot were quite excited about Garnacho getting the number 7 (including Garnacho himself).

It seemed like a fresh new beginning with a real character bringing some flair and youthful energy to the table.

And Mount is obviously not a player with any real flair, who many fans aren’t particularly excited about, even if they think he’s a solid signing.

So it has a bit of a letdown feeling, coinciding with strong noises that the Glazers are remaining at the club, you can understand people being a bit miffed.

But as you say, hopefully he does well and Utd can push on from 3rd and aim for a proper title push and a good run in the CL.

Very happy with the signing. I think he'll prove the doubters wrong in a big way.

I can tell why some Chelsea fans are starting to get a little bitter. Since his debut

- Most goals scored
- Most assists
- Most chances created
- Most appearences

In sides qualifying for and winning the Champions League. What a signing guys.

Yet, according to some he's underwhelming and average at most.

Why so many of them here anyway? Kick everyone out and keep @duffer

Yeah I get that, I always associated the 7 with a more exciting player as well but I genuinely think Mount will be a great signing.

I'm really pleased with this, he wants to come and he makes the team better.

Trust ETH 100%.

You seem incredibly angry about this.

'You said "was Rooney a LW, was Eto'o" there was no context whatsoever apart from that sentence. Your point however seems a bit contradictory, if Mount (who has always been a wide or attacking midfielder) is getting 'shunted' into the CMs, surely you are agreeing with me?

Please name another 'modern 8' - I will point out to you that Kroos is literally an 8 and plays in the exact role Eriksen plays, as evidence by their heatmaps.

Too many are underestimating Mount. He's a definite upgrade on Fred and will be very useful for the team in the coming season. He can be that 'glue' for the attack to gel.

The only question is whether he will be better than Eriksen. We certainly didn't spend 60 million for him to be benched, so he better be good from the start. None of that Sancho ' he needs more time' crap.

I expect him to make us play a lot better without doing that much that stands out as exceptional

The midfield of Klopp’s Liverpool was basically all players like that, so… fingers crossed

Also good set pieces, which is always worth a shit load

I dont think players think about who are the owners before moving to clubs at all.
Maybe some don't, i have to say i would be surprised at that, you want to win things as a player and that only happens with investment, but then again i guess some players are only really bothered about the fame and the trappings that comes from being a man united player.

Huge signing and statement of intent. He’s serious about football and winning. He’s not a celebrity first kind of guy. Big money yes but it’s for another leader. #7 won’t make him wilt. He’s a system player and he’ll do really well. It’ll be good to put the curse bed for a few seasons. Sanchez… shudder… too much expectation on Garnachos shoulders as an attacker next season to wear it.

I'm not angry in the slightest. I was just being sarcastic as you intentionally misunderstood the point I was making to change the subject.

Look at KDB or Kovacic's heatmaps on your own link.

Eriksen can't run and Kroos has played as a 6 for about 5 years.

Because it’s iconic and these things matter. For legacy and marketing.

Numbers really don't mean shit anymore.

It's just a number, it doesn't define a player unless they are big enough to have a brand like Beckham or Ronaldo.

We're going absolutely crazy over this and not in the good way.

Personally im happy with the signing, he didn't have the best of seasons last season but then again with everything that's going on at Chelsea I'm not surprised, his stats are excellent and he's the type of player that ETH wants as he always looks for the forward pass and presses, as long as ETH is happy with a player then thats good enough for me. Hes proven that he knows what hes looking for in a player, and if anyone says Anthony, im sure he will be an excellent player for us.

Glad to see a deal done early. Not our most pressing need but a good player regardless and Ten Hag clearly has a plan for him since he seemed to want him so badly. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does.

The number 7 is a bit surprising to be honest. Was convinced that Garnacho would be getting that, if not now, then soon.

If he's taking the 7 it means ETH sees him as a proper member of the first XI. I'm guessing it becomes Mount, Bruno and Casemiro with Eriksen, McTom etc in reserve
