Mason Mount

Man if I was to go by the number of times I've actually watched Sancho play (and that's mostly England and the games for United) I'd say he's absolutely bang average too, but I know better than that.

Sounds like a biased statement.

Mount was in the Euro squad and so to say played regularly. Lingard didn’t. Mount plays regular on a team pretty equal to United. Lingard doesn’t. Mount is 22. Lingard is 28.
I wouldnt base anything on what these coaches think. What i do know is mount has never payed as well as Lingard did for West Ham. Mind you, i was comparing the before Lingard even went to West Ham.

I actually think he could be a great 8. Sort of the heir to Kante with added quality. In the positions Chelsea and England use him in he's always going to be underwhelming.

You think that people here don’t watch him play for Chelsea too?

Not sure about the Kante comparison but I'd definitely prefer him deeper for England if he plays. He's an all round good player but shouldn't be keeping any of Sterling, Foden, Grealish, Rashford, Sancho or Greenwood on the bench in an attacking position.

I also don't really get it either... And I'm firmly in the good, not great camp.

However I also recognise that Chelsea fans love him and his managers really love him... So it's highly likely that I'm wrong in this situation.

I do know that the prediction I made a year or so ago that he'll be playing at West Ham a few years from now is looking rather silly

Wouldn't classify Kante as an 8 (he's too limited on the offensive end). Mount on the other hand hasn't displayed the ability to stamp his influence on a midfield the way Kante can in his favorite position.

I've rated Mount from day one but I still think he has room to evolve. Right now he seems like a jack of all trades player

Dont see it at all with him and never have. He is decent, and that is about it.

That's the only possible explanation for the "he's shit" comments. You can't have seen us over the past couple of seasons and actually think that.

Not really. People here watch almost every ManUtd game and still divided on Pogba, Rashford, Martial, McTominay, Fred.

Some of those had up and down seasons at least. Mount was literally Chelsea's player of the season in a year we became European Champions.

It's akin to saying "Bruno is shit", not "Fred is shit".

Tuchel created very good system to accommodate mount and havertz in free roles to maximise their potential and energy.

They were not played in rigid position but pop up in midfield both wings and also can occupy space behind striker.

Their combination play with both wing backs create most chances also created space for striker.

Will be interesting to see how tuchel utilise Werner and lukaku means one of the havertz/mount make way for Werner. Still ziyech waiting for his opportunity for one of roles behind striker.

As of now lukaku, mount and havertz starters for big games with Werner ziyech pulisic fighting for their spot.

Oh there are divided opinions on Bruno too.

Some people don’t rate any player unless they play in the third tier of Romanian football and they can pretend they’re experts on them from their two-bed semi in Aldershot because they read an article about Football Manager ‘wonderkids’ and hope nobody asks them just how they manage to access so many third tier Romanian football matches to form such an opinion when the games aren’t even televised.

Kante is an 8, his lack of quality offensively doesnt change the position he plays.

Obviously he hasnt, he barely plays in midfield.

I don’t rate him simply because I don’t think he’s creative enough to have the role he has for England and Chelsea. He is the McFred of Chelsea

I think the issue is he’s talked up by pundits, media and sections of fans like he is a David Silva, Iniesta or something. He looks a very good player but I don’t feel like he has that next level in him. He’s consistent in his performances which is a good thing but I can’t say I’ve seen a game where I’ve thought wow he’s something else.

I can kind of understand the criticism, I'm a bit ashamed to admit it now, but during Lampard's first season I was firmly in the camp that didn't understand why Lamps insisted on playing Mount like his life depended on it, because I found Mount quite underwhelming. He has improved leaps and bounds last season though (not only since Tuchel came in, but from the start of the season). He's a very clever player who's great at finding space between the lines, good at turning in half spaces and protecting the ball and dribbling/finding a yard of space in tight spaces. On top of that his link up play is pretty good and obviously his work rate and pressing are elite.

I agree that he needs to work on being more efficient, as his finishing isn't always spot on and when in a position to shoot, he often only has eyes for the goal, while ignoring a better positioned team mate. If he irons out these flaws, there's a world class player in there, but even as it is he's a very good player. There's a reason why he is the only one in our attack besides Lukaku (who still has to show he deserves his spot) who always plays, whereas Havertz, Werner, Ziyech and Pulisic have to fight for the 3rd spot. Tuchel benched him in his first game as a manager, but since then Mount has been ever present.

I don't know how he plays for England as I barely watch England play, but at Chelsea he has definetely earned his spot.

He'll have one moment of quality once in a while and it will talked up as the greatest thing ever and then casually ghost the next 5 games.

He's a fantastic player for Chelsea. Underwhelming for England. I can somewhat understand the 'he's overrated' comments. He kind of was for while, but if some think he still is, that's cool. I disagree but I can at least understand where that perspective is coming from. Saying 'he's shit' is nothing more than someone bring a troll though.

If "he's a championship player" or "he's shit" are being spouted then those people have no idea what they're talking about either.

The average supporter can't discern an efficient footballer from an average footballer.

Everyone recognises flashy play and every team needs the risk players, but when its first and second touches, transitions, simple passing, pressing, positioning and making the right choices when the risky ball isn't on the average viewer doesn't pay attention and Mount is very strong at these things and every team needs players who hold the side together as well as your Bruno-eque players who can risk the ball and be all about end product.

Tuchel doesn’t really play risk players from the start though. He selects Mount and Havertz because they understand the team structure, movement and their off the ball responsibilities. Individuals like Pulisic and Ziyech are bench options in the main. You could accuse Tuchel of playing very modern data driven and sterile style of football but it’s obviously very effective. Mount is perhaps the embodiment of this style as a player.

Mount has had an incredible career so far and will likely have a very top level career. If he improves his end product he’ll get more respect from the average fan but many will prefer a guy like Pulisic who has a high skill level, scores spectacular goals but doesn’t understand his role as part of a functioning efficient team.

He did play a big part in fairness, great goal against Porto in the quarters and an assist for the winning goal in the final. He made the UEFA CL squad of the season.

He played big part, it's not like we are talking about Ronaldo or Messi. Tuchel was awesome and one of the biggest reason for their CL win. They replaced players without missing a beat.

Yep and wont win a cup with Bruno let alone cl.

Well done.

Out of all the stupid takes in this thread including not rating Mount, this one stands out. Congrats.

The problem with the post I quoted is, next we will see Zinchenko > Shaw as one player won PL and other didn't.

Since this is a Chelsea thread, and we are using CL wins to prove who is a better player than let's just say Blomqvist > Zola and move on.

I don't think many people would chose Mount over Bruno but Tuchel might because of how he wants his team to play. That's only a guess of course but if you really want to control a game then Bruno isn't the kind of player you'd go for. Ziyech is actually very similar to Bruno in how he plays although not as good.

Personally I think both Pulisic and Ziyech would fit in our team quite well.

KdB is also risky player but they control every game. We won't control as we have Ole who prefers direct style. Coaches control the games, I mean their style of play.

Pulisic and Ziyech would be nowhere near our first XI right now.
