Then you possibly can't be thinking Szoboszlai is better than Mount.

Nkunku is a very different player and also regressed this season.
Don’t think a lot of people rate Mount because he’s English. Chelsea fans loved him and each manager loves him. I’m confident he’ll shine here. I can see a midfield 3 of Bruno, Mount and Casemiro working. I think Bruno might be the deeper one with Casemiro and Mount will start off the high press.

It has been well over 10 years of watching United make obviously mediocre signings while clubs in the vicinity pull off amazing moves.

I still vividly remember the frustration with Aguero joining City and United seeing no value in the market.

This summer, United sign Mount for a hefty sum while Chelsea get Nkunku and Liverpool get, among others, Szoboszlai. You cannot make it up.
1. Mount is PL proven. It remains to be seen what more players from the German league will achieve. There’s not exactly a great track record coming from that league to the PL.
2. You’ve watched for 10 years and got jealous at other teams making signings. You I guess you were ambivalent when signing Casemiro then. Or Sancho.

I'm no fan of Mount, but one thing I will say is that at the very least, we are getting someone who has proven he can play for a top Premier League club.

I'll take that over another flatters to decieve Bundesliga player any day

It's amazing seeing so much defence for Mount. Where were you feckers when I was fighting off the swarm of tits who thought he was "championship level" a couple of years ago?
Well I for one never called him championship level. But I never and still do not rate(d) him highly either.
However once upon a time our record with English or even foreign PL players, especially expensive signings, was so good that you were prepared to bet your life on the player being (hugely) successful. Not in the last few years unfortunately.
But if Mount turns out to be a success I will register on Chelsea’s biggest forum (I hope there is one) and write a poem about Chelsea’s wonderful academy.

Who the feck has even really seen much of Szoboszlai or Nkunku anyway? How does any United fan find the time to watch all these foreigners play football each week while United are playing? I bet half the people on here haven't even heard of Szoboszlai, much less remember seeing him kick a ball. If we're being honest about it

It's just fashionable to big up rival signings, especially if they're foreign and have a decent highlights video.

On the flipside it's easy to shit on Mason Mount because dullard Gareth Southgate picks him for boring old England. Yet Mount has played at a higher level and achieved far more than either of those nobodies signings for rivals

I don’t rate him high myself but reading through the thread he seems to be really underrated.

he was Chelsea best player two times in a row. Key for their CL run. Fits our profile and is pretty versatile.

the only reason why his value should be lower is his contract situation.
This has been bandied about far too many times in this thread. The main reason for Chelsea’s CL run was Tuchel’s tactics and without him the team has imploded(Mount included). Our POTY has been De Gea far too many times in recent years and not many people seem to feel bad about his departure now.

IMO he is the wrong profile of midfielder we needed to splurge on this window. Another concern for me is the transfer fee and wages involved, we are have also directly boosted transfer budget of a top 4 rival. It’s completely a different case if we were to get him on the cheap due to his contract situation. I’m really worried if Amrabat is the type of midfield backup we are targeting after spending this much on Mount.

Exactly. Ferguson brought Carrick because Carrick never lost the ball. He knitted our play together and made the team work better. Fans are useless at seeing the wider team context. I think Mount is similar, he will make the team work better.
People would absolutely if we signed someone like Carrick right now. IMO that’s the kind of midfielder we need right now.

Rubbish. What has Carrick ever won at Spurs or West Ham? Nothing. We should be looking at Marcos Senna from Villarreal. He's class and would cost a fraction of the price.

Won something? He was relegated at West Ham.

More overpriced English dross and not even the profile of midfielder we need, as a Scholes/Carrick midfield is completely unbalanced. You need players who can actually make tackles the Premier League. Carrick also has no pace, isn't a leader and isn't box to box. And people think this is the guy we need to replace Keane? Embarassing. That midfield will get run over.

I'd take him for 5m as he's better than Smith and maybe Fletcher, even though I'm not sure he's a better actual DM than O'Shea is at his best. But I'll be devestated if he's our only CM signing, we need someone like Diarra as well.

Meanwhile Jol and Levy get to sell an overhyped player and bring in a talent like Zokora instead, who looked great in the World Cup. If we pay anything like 15m for Carrick they'll be laughing their way to the bank. If this is the kind of business we can expect this summer then Fergie will be sacked by the end of next season.

 Class

Diarra is a shout too.

Mount is a good player. Not very exciting but good. I agree with those who’ve been saying he’ll make the team better.

He’s pretty young at 24. He probably has six years of getting better and another couple of years at (or close to) his peak after that; so that’s all good.

I wonder how he will develop. Will he eventually become a different type of player (as Scholes did, for example)?

Mount doesn’t excite me but I am very excited to see how the team lines up with him.

you're fuking mental....Carrick was an absolutely brilliant player. He was a close of an english player as you could find that compared to Busquets and we all know how vital Busquets has been for spain and barca.

It was a big joke, wasn’t it? How people are talking about Mount is how people talked about Carrick when we signed him. No? Unless I’m going mad.

He's improved a lot since February. Everyone was saying he was rubbish on the first few pages and goes missing in games. Thankfully that looks like it's changed now.

Poor bloke clearly won't get the support of some in the fanbase due to a poor season

Carrick was replacing Keane who United fans adore(d) like almost no other so it was always going to be hard for Carrick to silence his critics until he had proven himself in a United shirt (which to his credit he did rather quickly).
Mount isn’t replacing anyone or rather replacing Eriksen/McFred, plus he is a CL winner and there are still so many doubts.
With Carrick the question was if he could make the step up and eventually come close to replacing Keane.
With Mount there are different doubts. It seems we already know his ability and ceiling, we have seen him under Southgate and Tuchel in the biggest tournaments and in CL.

‘Can’t believe we’re funding their move for Zokora’

He's not a bad squad player, I was convinced he was joining Klopp this summer for around £35m as he's the sort of high energy midfielder Klopp likes and that's thier sort of price range for this profile of midfielder.

If we had gotten him for around £40m and a good wage, I think this deal would've been more palpable. If it turns out Mount is our biggest transfer of the summer, with say a £35m keeper and £40m for a striker like Hojlund, the concern is that we haven't really upgraded the first XI majorly. Sure we get a ball playing keeper, but they likely won't be as good a shot stopper as De Gea. Hojlund isn't as good as Martial is (when he's actually fit). Mount could surprise me, but in the 10+ Chelsea and England games I've watched him in the only time he ever did something was the assist to Havertz in the CL final.

I must admit I do join some of the others being envious of Liverpool. McAlister for £35m is a great price. Szoboszlai I haven't watched regularly and the German league is weaker, but I have seen him score some crackers and he captains both club and country at 22. If they get Lavia too.. well that's the very good, young midfielders. Unlike us, they also have the benefit of 3 productive forwards in Salah, Jota, and Diaz (productive more in terms of dribbling), whereas only Rashford seems to do anything for us and this will continue to hinder us this season.

I can't help but feel a big £80m striker should've been out first priority, and then add someone like McAlister for £35m and a keeper with the rest of the funds. Or £80m striker and fill the squad with good depth options like Sabitzer at £15m, a £20m keeper, hell even a player like Pulisic is moving for around £20m and provides good depth for 3 attacking positions (whom i rate though many here probably don't, but when he gets a chance he's usually good).

All in all £55m on Mount who doesn't really offer anything specialised other than hard work seems a big gamble as our biggest transfer spend (he won't get as many goals as a lot of his goals are from positions Bruno occupies). We shall see.

Best post of the day. I see it's already 'wooshed' over some people's head.

2 years ago the Chelsea fans were going overboard comparing him to Kdb and Bruno, which isn't doing him favors...

Too short, will struggle to handle it in this league... :D
181cm, Licha listed as 175cm

Medical happened today, but no pics here? wtf!!!

Feel like the caf traffic dropped off a cliff in the off season. Lack of a good transfer saga probably? The only thing we have going on is the club sale and that thread is a clusterfeck.

Bruno and Eriksen were also supposed to add that but our team doesn’t know how to compete in the air.

yeah I agree with this, it is not that we lack the players who can deliver balls into the box, the players in the box do not compete enough or do not score, only Casemiro does, and it is evident from the goals he scored, Eriksen, Bruno, Shaw & now Mount can all deliver good balls from set-pieces and the team must make use of that as an attacking weapon

Having CBs with poor aerial/heading ability does not help either.

Yup Casemiero is the one and it makes such a difference. Even when fit Martial doesn’t offer my in the air, Rashford barring a few goals last season activity avoids aerial duels and Antony is tiny. Which is why our CF signing also needs to have this quality.

Pfft. Carrick couldn't even get a look in for England. Utter shite. We missed a trick by not signing Fabrixio Donnatelloninho from Boca Warrior Juniors and letting him join our rivals instead. When will be ever learn? feck this club

Fergie should just get the sack and we should get Capello in while we still can !

He is gonna be 30 years old in 6 years time. Spending 60m on a soon to be 30 year old hardworking but limited system player with 1 year left in his contract is just dumb business.

My exact thoughts. I’m not sure if it’s them wowing over a rival signing, or simply wowing over a unknown, foreign name that I would guess most have never watched before
