So is he coming in to replace Eriksen in the starting line up? Not sure what the plan is for him to be honest.
Yes, I can see us moving to a 4-3-3 with Bruno and Mount as the two 8s ahead of Casemiro as the 6. Eriksen will be good option to unlock teams that play a low block.

Someone mentioned earlier a rumour that Chelsea took back the 200k a week offer and then offered him less or something to that effect.
I heard murmurs that you offered those wages then took them off the table. Not sure if true...

Yeah that's been the story - we hired sporting directors while Mount was away at the WC and the first thing they did apparently was modify the extension offer. Can understand why Mount is annoyed given his importance to the team and (relatively) low wage in comparison to many of the useless lumps in the team. Definitely seems like an odd player to choose to be frugal with from our new hierarchy.

I think he's almost certainly an Eriksen replacement.

I guess Eriksen was signed because he was free, so budget wise it worked and ETH knew him. It was probably a means to an end at the time but in the long run he wasn't likely to get back to an elite level at his age. I'm sure it wasn't lost on ETH how badly Eriksen faded in the second half of the season, and even the second half of games.

So I'd imagine he is targeting more energy, pressing, ability to get between the boxes in a way Eriksen struggled to do physically.

It's not inspiring but it makes a bit of sense if he can really do the job as an 8, which in my view remains to be seen. But I think that's pretty clearly the idea.

would have also thought he would have been an ideal player for Poch, would have expected Poch to be moving mountains to keep him

This deal just makes too much sense for all parties for it to not go through. We want Mount, Mount wants to come here and Chelsea needs to balance their books and he will leave on a free if they don't sell now.

I wish we could just put a bow on this so we can stop having the insane amount of headlines this generates. He s a good player, and I think will do well -but hardly anywhere close to our most important position to strengthen in. At least the Onana links are picking up steam as well, but I almost don't care about either until I know we ll get a proper striker. Not putting a proper goal scorer at the end of those Bruno passes while he s in his prime would be a footballing crime.

Poch certainly would like him to stay it seems but there are many examples of players making the decision to leave because of a real or imagined slight and once they are set on going it is tough to get them to reconsider. I think once you mentally accept that you are going to be moving on it is hard to change that mindset even if you love your current club.

I guess Chelsea hierarchy don’t rate him that high and Poch doesn’t see him as indispensable. Chelsea currently have surplus in his position. RLC, Gallagher, Carney, Santos and Casadei. Not including signings that will be coming in. Using the fee for DM may be Poch idea.

It depends on the meeting/conversation between Poch and Mount. If Poch thinks Mount's head is turned and not mentally commited to the new project, then best is to part way.

Is it wrong to say now mount average player, don't improve United and he is 50 mn vdb impersonator? . Anyways congrats mount for your new adventure. Thank you for cl.

Hope this is next after the mount deal.

To be fair, I do feel United would've walked away from the deal if this offer, regarded as the final bid, was rejected.

Terrible signing goes missing in all the big games. Huge risk going on his last 18 months.

I think he's a cracking player and only 24. His best years are ahead of him for sure. Been rinsed on the fee though, I won't argue that.

That's actually a presumption because I'm going off reports about him preferring us over Arsenal and Liverpool.
Liverpool signed Mac Alister while Arsenal are chasing Rice. I haven't seen such reports. Please share if you can find easily.
Is it?

I mean if you read up on the very first post on this page. Thanks to @roonster09 here’s some info from Ornstein:

“Liverpool were the early frontrunners but of course they’re not going to be in the Champions League next season,” the Athletic reporter was quoted as saying by Football Daily.

“Manchester United have always been there with strong interest. Arsenal too would like to bring him to their club but it’s Manchester United who have really stepped forward as far as I know.

“Nothing is done or finalised at this stage but I think that’s the direction of travel and those other clubs, including Liverpool and Arsenal, Thomas Tuchel on behalf of Bayern Munich who has a credible interest as well, have been made aware that Manchester United is Mount’s preference.
How does any of the above tell you that Mount prefers Manchester United over Liverpool and Arsenal. It says that Manchester United are the only ones who have stepped forward. Nothing else.

I was wondering why Mason Mount was so keen to join us. It seems as if every reputable report has him dead set on joining us only, and turning down the club he grew up in. I found that very odd.

So I did some digging and came across a MEN article which detailed how Mason used to idolise Ronaldo. He specifically mentioned a match against Pompey (the lad was born there?), where Ronaldo smashed that worldie free kick past David James.

Mount would have been around 9 years old at the time.

I've come to the realisation that we might be on our "last legs" when it comes to having young players/fans prefer us over teams like city or even the dippers.

The 9-10 year olds of today will likely grow up idolising aguero, de bruyne, haaland, salah etc.

The harsh fecking truth about the damage done under current ownership and the lasting effects it will have for our near future.

Given the glaring weaknesses in our squad (striker being the most obvious) I wouldn’t have put money on Mason Mount being the player we’d sign first.

Calm down
We are still despite a decade of mediocrity a top attraction for players. Sancho, Bruno, Cavani, Varane, Casemiro all joined us after all.

For 50+5M pounds I'd be happy with this deal. Then ST and GK needed as next priorities.

He's talking more about younger players, like those born in 2000s.

You have a point, but I like to impact of a Rashers should not be overlooked. I feel like the Gen Z and below kids are very much focused on social justice issues (much more so than my old Millennial ass was), and they probably look up to someone like him for that, along with his product on the pitch of course.

Give them a chance Matt ffs. They've got to try and figure out which one of their 458 first team players he is first.

Well you consider how quickly they rejected first two bids I see them not doing that as positive sign

I don't think it matters that much to a professional football player. Ronaldo has nothing to do with United now, so why should that be relevant to him?
I think it's more to do with him having almost a guaranteed starting place, more money and of course the opportunity to play for the biggest club in England. He seems like a really nice lad to have around the dressing room as well and I think he'll fit in nicely with most of our players.
