A lot of people will be surprised he’s a very good player. One of Chelsea best in the past 2-3 years by a mile.

I don't have so much problem with Mount as an individual. During their best runs in the last 3 years he was with Silva and Kante Chelsea's best player and certainly their best from the offensive point of view. People will love his ability to link the midfield with attack, his movement and workrate. His long range passing is also surprisingly good/great. At his best (if we can get that version and am pretty certain we will), he is a very, very good player... Tbf at his worst you will struggle to find him on the pitch and he isn't assertive enough for a world class midfielder, but maybe that can come with time. He is also not that brilliant when he doesn't have enough space to operate which is something he has in common with many of our players and is part of my bigger issue.

Which is Casemiro - Bruno - Mount midfield and the fact that it seems like we will give even more responsibility to Casemiro in the build up phase (who will have Varane and AWB with him many times as well). Am not sure that this is the best idea and that we are creating midfield which is best suited to dominate the opponent. In short, I think we will be much more equipped to press the opponent, but will also have less control of the game (and be more suspect to turnovers/opposition press ourselves). Am just doubtful that a trade-off will be worth it.

If we're spending 60m on mount, I think it's fair to say the stories that we have a budget of 100m plus player sales is bullshit. There's no way we're spending 60% of our budget on a midfielder when GK and striker are far more pressing, and we have no one that we can say we're guaranteed to sell

Absolutely. Fully expect to see new GK, CF, maybe even RB.

If Chelsea do reject this - do we see the club actually sticking to its guns and walking away?

I hope we do on principal, but I dunno - not sure if we're strong-willed enough?

I'd say we will walk away and come back with a new improved bid in like a month if that happens

So the club’s apparent ownership in limbo and that we can’t sign players because of it is absolutely nonsense. United have already made official bids for Mount and possibly Onana. The money is there to sign players

They’re probably close to an agreement and barring something ridiculous like Chelsea decided to want even more, I think it’ll be done.

Mount reportedly wants to come here as well so he’ll be pushing for it to be done. No Frenkie de Jong fencesitting and collecting splinters in his ass involved here. I think I read on a Chelsea forum that United were his ‘glory’ team as a kid.

I think this 3rd bid gets it done. There comes a point where you’ll eventually call our bluff and I think £60m total will be seen as fair.

Ornstein reports that the bid is 50+5, which seems fair for both parties.

If we walk away, Liverpool will probably swoop in. They want him, they just can't compete with us.

They are not competing with us because we are do not appear to sign him at any cost. They will still need to pay as much as us.

Man utd have their 27th bid for Mason Mount rejected days before his 34th birthday. They promise that this was the last one and they are going to walk away.

United sign 39 year old Mount.

Foregetting some of the shiny names on teh continent you may personally prefer (Barella and Caqueret) and the possible end fee of £55m (overpriced for me).....do people really "fully trust Ten Hag" and his judgements for Mount after just a seaso in charge here?

I mean I have been impressed with Ten Hag, Ilike him even though its still early days and the next season is pivotal, I also think Mount is a good if not very good player.......but although he is an upgrade on Eriksen who I think has been overhyped in his first season here and I think is actually nearly done his legs have gone.....

I dont see a midfield of Casemeiro, Mount and Fernandes as a big winninig one over a seasosn of premiership games, certainly not defensively. I think against the better teams our midfield has been over ran comfortably and teams have made there way up to the final third with ease....Mount looks good pressig at the front, but personally I dont see the defensive nouse or fight getting back in him working in the current dynamic, unless there is some kind of shift in the shape of our side, Im not overwhelmed by him as a signing, certainly not at £55m+, think he is a decent signing but I think there are better targets either being similar and cheaper or a little bit more and better

If they don't accept this we need to walk away even if they come back saying they want 57 mill.

60 m in total is already too much, they have problems with FFP and he's on the last year of his contract, shouldn't be over 40...

One thing I know is after Sancho, I cannot trust the fanbase.

They shouted out for him and then soon as he fails act like they have no ability as a fanbase to influence the club.

If this isn't successful, we should go in the direction of away whilst walking.

I have a feeling Chelsea will just reject it given the progress of their squad clear out. They have done great on that front. May be in the end 60m can seal the deal. Let's wait and see. There is still lots of time left in the transfer window.
They have got rid of Kante on a free so far, everyone else is still under negotiation, so they've not made a lot of prgoress.

You also have to think that the players they are mostly selling they spent a lot of money on, so they aren't making much money on them in terms of FFP, it's players like Mount that are 100% pure profit that will help them financially in that regard. It's probably in their best interest to take the offer or something very close to it at this point.

Based on what we became accustomed to towards the end of last season, Mount would clearly improve a midfield which looked so porous and old. Just his work rate and intensity alone would give us more chance of competing in the big games. He's more or less a box-to-box midfielder and he will add something both defensively and offensively.

But anything over 60 million is starting to extract the Michael ever so slightly. Hopefully he can force a move but we know how Chelsea operate since the Obi Mikel saga.

I think that's a very good and reasonable bid for the player. This is the one you have to be prepared to stick to principles and leave the negotiating table for if it's rejected. If you don't, and you make one, two then three bids and still come back for a fourth you are setting yourself up as soft touches for negotiations. Which we have been over the years, but if you have any intention to rectify that then start with something like this where the coverage has been detailed.

Mad transfer when you think about it. I thought he was a lifer at Chelsea

If he stays here where does he play, though? That’s the problem. If we buy 2 new midfielders as expected and with Nkunku coming in there really isn’t a place in the XI for Mase. And trying to convince him to sign a new contract when he’s on the bench all the time isn’t gonna happen.

Well by all accounts Poch wants him to stay so I'd imagine he would find a place for him in the team. In a 433, he could comfortably be the 3rd midfielder next to Enzo and someone else (Caicedo?). There are lots of different formations and set ups that allows for a player like Mount to flourish.

As did we Chelsea supporters. Something crazy must have happened behind the scenes that really pissed him off during contract negotiations. But by all extremely reliable and clued in Chelsea sources we offered him a very large wage of £200k per week. So it can’t be that we offered him some insultingly low wages.

Up until very recently, the captaincy debate centred exclusively around Mount and James. I really thought his contract extension was a formality.

Someone mentioned earlier a rumour that Chelsea took back the 200k a week offer and then offered him less or something to that effect.

I heard murmurs that you offered those wages then took them off the table. Not sure if true...

So is he coming in to replace Eriksen in the starting line up? Not sure what the plan is for him to be honest.

Relationship can be rebuilt. If Chelsea plays good football next season and he plays an important role in the team, he may change his mind.

Chelsea are going to counter offer again but with 55+5 and we will agree.

Pretty much yes. Seems Erik wants a 3 man midfield with Case at the bse and two attacking 8's in front of him. Bruno and Mount would be ideal due to their energy and pressing style, Eriksen does not have the legs to do that. Still would expect rotation based on the opponents style of play though.

Yeah, I did read that. Sounds like something a club hierarchy in complete transition would do.

Whatever happened I really hope we find out after he leaves. Either from him or his father who is very outspoken. The match going Chelsea supporters who have treated him like a hero and made banners for him deserve an explanation I’d say.
