Christ just trust ETH, if anything this Mount pursuit should make us realise he wants a ‘box‘ midfield like Brighton and Citeh late in the season. He knows what he’s doing. Mount and Fernandes looks very potent to me as the two advanced midfielders with one of the fullbacks supporting Casemiro at the base. Mount provides added work rate and dynamism. I’m shocked we’re not being linked with Timber again this Summer, he’d be perfect as the inverted fullback to support Casemiro. I know that’s not his position but it would suit his profile perfectly. ETH invented FDJ’s role at Ajax and only Van Gaal has taken advantage of that. Could imagine he’d create a new precedent for that position.

He might not be ancient but he hasn’t got the legs to shield the defence on his own. IMO Rice would have been the perfect partner for him. If not him, then Caicedo.
Yeah but ETH’s plan is clearly to have one defensive midfielder and two players who can push forward so Caicedo and Rice would not fit that concept. Mount is far more offensive minded.

Yeah, the goals are everything at that level. Lineker would sometimes be anonymous and almost entirely ineffective for 89 minutes of a game and still score the goal that no-one else would / could…

Kane does miles more than Lineker ever did but I’m not sure he gets as many crucial goals in tight games. Maybe I’m being harsh.
I think I agree with you. Unless it's a pen or the someone shoots at his bum and it goes in, I don't think he is really a difference maker in the biggest matches for England.

Not sure about blindly trusting the manager. I don't think his transfers so far have been that amazing. The deals for Antony and Weghorst, for example, were hardly impressive. I don't mind Mount but if we blow a big slice of the budget on him that seems a very bad idea. Maybe wait a year.

Ajax was a mess this season & Timber was quite bad in the middle of it. That have cooled down the hype.

It seems like that's the plan, yes. I just don't think it's going to work. And still, we need someone to cover DM when Case gets suspended or needs a rest.

I know he had a bad season, but he won Chelsea player of the year twice (and once in a Champions League winning year) and has 36 caps for England by the age of 24. Surely we as fans are missing something here which we should introspect before shouting abuses at United staff for going after him?
I think he's a pretty good "battler", he would add strength in taking regaining possession (something we aren't great at, while giving the ball away softly), but that's about all. As I've said elsewhere, I'd rather have put this £40m+ in the "harry kane pot"

Food £200
Data £100
Rent £800
Mason Mount £60m
Utility £150
someone who is good at the economy please help me budget this. my attack is dying

I would have liked a playmaker but maybe he will fit into ETHs system. Could be the Mcallister next to our Caicedo (Casemiero).

Surely there is some sort of plan to cover Case when he’s out. Surely!?

I still think that, there are better options out there for this kind of money, it seems that ETH really really likes him if we push so hard for his signature.

One of the other option is to get Felix on year Ioan and buy Caicedo which will be a lot better than Mount alone.

Deal will be done at £60m.

Chelsea won't refuse the second bid. The problem is that with the Mount money they will get Caicedo, it's win win situation for them.
If they end up paying close to 120 for Caiceido, then good riddance - we wouldn't have payed that any chance to buy him.

Is it? Losing one of their established players who’s proven for them winning big honours for another big money punt on a Brighton player. It’s not a win win situation for them.

Or buy someone else and sign Mount on a free in 6 months? Casemiro has struggled in many games as he has his own weaknesses. He needs better support deeper in midfield

We still doing this?
Doing what? AWB is mediocre on the ball and has 0 ability to play inverted. He is a poor passer of the ball particularly in close spaces, he often makes passes that put other players in bad situations. We play from the back next season, he either does not play, or he is pushed forward with other players in the mix. Either way he is a very bad player to have if you want control play from the back.

Feels like a signing that just about sums up why we are in such a shambles. Massively overpaying for a player who is a minor upgrade at best with one year on his contract and giving the other club most likely to be challenging us for top four the money to buy an upgrade.

£80M on Maguire
£50M on Wan Bissaka
£60M on Mount

Seriously this is an abysmal use of transfer money.

I think Mount is an OK player who improves what we have and will add much needed energy.
Everyone we linked to has a massive price tag, and when you see players lake G Ramos, Hojlund, Caciedo being quoted at £80M+; average keepers at £40M+ and getting excited at release clauses for a CB for £45M+ the transfer market has gone insane. Will only get worse.

the issue I have with the Mount signing is he doesn’t exactly solve our current midfield problem. We will still continue to struggle against teams who press but we will also struggle to control the tempo of games and thus have more nervy games like we have for what feels like an eternity.

If Mount was a free signing it would be fine but for that price tag its just what I’ve come to expect from the club, but with already limited funds it would be better use getting Rabiot on a free and put the money towards a striker or GK.

Christ knows what is/isn't value these days but if you'd asked me what Mount would actually go for this summer I'd have guessed around 50-55m ish.

50m would be good business for all IMO. They'd be dumb to reject. But who knows. Hope it gets sorted quickly as he'll improve us a lot and importantly, be a 24 year old midfielder at a very high level compared to our mass of 30 year olds.

I think him and Mac Allister are very similar in terms of their best positions, play style and ability. That fee was fair (35m rising to 55m) and I think it's fair in this case too, perhaps a higher base fee to mitigate that 'English' tax.

Nobody would give them what they're asking for so yes they should take the 50. If they dont we should leave it.

100%. Same stance with Kane. Set a price, make an offer, come back next summer if you can't agree this summer and take him for free if you still need him.

Be insanity if went any higher, Chelsea can smell them clowns Murtough and Arnold coming. Chelsea have 4000 first team players, no Europe, a player on last year refusing to sign and didn't play. This is a joke.

Chelsea are the clowns now us. We are willing to walk away. They can’t afford that.

Good point. No Europe makes for an even more crammed squad. They have to offload.
