Never liked him, never wanted him signed, to make it worst we handed him the number 7 shirt, which really twisted my Nickers, But be it as it may it's what ETH want so I'll have to see how he does through out the coming season to understand how he fits with us.
Good on you! Hopefully people won't lose their minds in pre-season.

If we wanted to win the game then yes, but I like to think we're focusing more on fitness level and it kind of makes sense to keep Eriksen in that context I think. Harsh to criticize Ten Hag in preseason.
Yeah this is true as well. Eriksen definitely needed the run out and hopefully his poor game was just a case of dusting off the cobwebs.

2nd this. I am waiting to see how he gets on throughout the season.

Way too early to be writing him off, but him and Fernandes in a midfield two with Casemiro behind them is far from an ideal balance of midfield profiles.

I think he’s a better player than Eriksen, but I don’t quite think I’ll ever see how he was our most sign no.8. Time will tell. Hag obviously has a big plan as he went balls deep for him

Played 110ish minutes for us and the lot of ye written him off

The fact it’s pre-season, new club, hes not played a match since April and ontop of that Chelsea was a shitshow last season so he needs to find form again - and you lot give him 110 minutes?? Go play FIFA until the season starts proper.
This. The meltdown is hilarious on here.

I think opinions are based on more than 110 minutes. It’s not like he was an unknown quantity. He can prove doubters wrong but that doesn’t mean the doubts aren’t legitimate.

I know there is sod all else to talk about but since when have we started judging pre-season performances? This could go in any player’s thread really but it’s just a fitness exercise with some ball play. They’re still a few weeks away from being sharp. On top of that we’ve been mixing the teams up and trying new things.

I think you are very much downplaying the pre-season matches and this is nowhere in line with how the manager sees them, or at least says he sees them.

Yes they are to build fitness, yes they are to try new things, but EtH takes them seriously and wants to win. There is also little to suggest the players dont, even looking at the Arsenal game a few games ago. There was a lot of passion, intensity and at times even agression from our players.

Players were judged (positively) then, can't remember anyone questioning it when it happened that way.

We’ll be looking to replace him in the first XI within a year or two. He’ll be yet another overpaid, overpriced squad player. See Maguire, Sancho, Antony.

Eriks obsession with him was always very bizzare. Would have been a good addition to the squad as a cheap punt. But as our marque, main midfield signing? Just not seeing it.

It’s one thing to have reservations, it’s another to literally write someone off already.

How exactly? Guy hasn't played since April and is now new to the team playing a preseason match ?
So help me understand how exactly this works ?

If your reasoning is I have seen him for couple of years, then he was brilliant except last year. He was Chelsea POY multiple years . So either you are prejudiced or only looking at a time frame where the whole Chelsea team was embarrassingly bad.

That took long. :D

Cafe experts concluded already we dont need him and he's a nothing player.
It's not like he's the new kid on the block. We've all seen him play many times be it for Chelsea or England. Reservations we're already made before the player signed for United and will continue to be made until he starts performing.

We got scammed for this dude. He's a neat tidy player who can press, but he's not going to go on any dazzling runs, he's not going to dominate the midfield he's not going to provide more creativity in the final third than what Bruno provides.

He's an upgraded Jessie Lingard, A player who will go missing for large parts of the game then may be pop up with a basic assist or finish. This will be Ten Hag's Harry Maguire signing and in a years time we'll be asking ourselves what the hell was he thinking splashing out 60 million on this guy.

Antony exists.

I think Mount will be alright, but I don't think he was crucial. Should've waited a year for him and got him on a free. We could've used that money much more productively.

Getting Kagawa flashbacks reading that.

I am not being critical of Mount either. I'd wait until the season starts to critique his performances.

I've seen the white text, but the difference between Mount and Kagawa is, Mount is proven. Other than last season, Mount was putting in very good performances and numbers in the Premier League. I'm confident we will see that again this upcoming season.

He’s been a premier league and international player for years. Brilliant is your opinion. Clearly a lot of people disagree.

Our main creators or passers haven’t played yet or performed yet.

Mount gets value & appreciation then because he gives you a bit of everything as a support to the main guy.

Right now he just looks like he can’t influence a game - because well, no one really has.

Wow, judge a player like that during a pre-season who was injured since March 2023 and adapting a new environment, teamates and tactics...

Another factor that will count against Mount is if we regularly see Bruno shifted out wide to accommodate him. Which is a very legitimate concern.

You either chose to ignore my question completely or didn't see it.

So I will move on.

Let's not forget that Bruno was shunted out wide for Wout fecking Weghorst at no.10 for a chunk of last season. An experiment only brought to an end when it was beyond clearly never going to work.

ETH is a bit of a weirdo with some of the things he likes in football, though. And I could absolutely see the above happening. After all, he did play Haller at LW and say that Kudus would be a good LB at Ajax.

EDIT: Having typed that I go into the Hojlund thread and read that he wants to play him at LW  You couldn't make it up.

Good because you’re being obtuse. People aren’t judging just on pre season and have different opinions on how Mount has performed over the last couple of years. You need to understand that what you believe isn’t fact.

So you're saying he didnt perform till now for Chelsea?
And I do wonder how many times you've seen him playing for Chelsea.

The fact that Chelsea fans love him and talk about him highly gives me patience to see him grow.

I think it's pre-season and the manager is just using it as a chance to test a few different ideas. People are looking into it too much if they see anything beyond that. Bruno might occasionally pop up at RW but that's not suddenly going to be his main position, especially if Antony and Sancho are available.

What does it say? Love these one liners without a shred of context.

That Bellingham never wanted to join us and likely never will (maybe if he never makes it at Madrid there’s a chance but more in a losers mindset than to a winners one).

Some people act like we are the biggest team in the world with the biggest pulling power capable of pulling all these big names players compared to a club like Madrid or Barcelona.

Just to Madrid, I remember two British world class/potential WC players that never ever wanted to join us in Bale & Bellingham.

I was stating why it is normal for people to already have reservations after watching him play in the prem for a couple of seasons now. Bar his first season we can't say he set the world alight.
A dozen probably (vs United, in the champions league and the world cup)

I dont think that's a big enough sample to judge or to have reservations. He was Chelsea's player of the year twice so if not setting the world alight whatever that means he certainly peformed for them.
Its especially madness to write him of after 3 preseason games.

This thread is going to be a car crash this season - he's literally not playing a competitive game for the club

I feel like we're not getting much for our money, but if we manage to sell Mctominay for £40m we've probably got a little bit of an upgrade.

McTominay did more in 5 minutes yesterday than Mount has done across his pre-season appearances so far.

Those coming up with the "he's a system player", "a glue player", "he makes those around him better", "teammates can't find him" excuses are using the kind of same ones people tried to use for DVB.

He's certainly a better player than DVB mind, and I'm not going to write him off just yet, but on his current showings and general energy levels he seems to have a fair way to go to be worthy of a starting spot at Utd and to improve anythng.
