No way. David Batty was a bit of a psycho. He would break Mount in 2.
Batty was a very underrated player. Two league titles.
He is not a midfielder. You can tell him to run and to press, but you cannot teach him to create from deep, control the tempo and show for the ball. You have it or not. Mount hasnt got it.

I think the big issue is that all these 'clever' players who make intelligent runs and work in the space like Veron, Kagawa, Mata, Van de Beek etc have never really found their feet at this club.
We simply don't know how to use them and its in the DNA of this club. We should really realise that by now and stop buying such players, especially for big money.

Difference is, all of those players, other than Mata, had no Premier League experience before joining United - Mount has, For that reason, ten Hag should know to play him closer to the oppositions goal, as he clearly has an eye for goal.
No he really doesn't though. Apart from one good season, the rest of the time he's scored less than 10 goals a season.
It's nowhere near Bruno's numbers, so how can you justify dropping Bruno at 10?
Because Bruno is much better than Mount in the deeper position, and the only way to find the balance is by making that tweak.
For example. Sabitzer is also a player that didn't boast a better goalscoring record than Bruno as a 10, yet when ten Hag moved Bruno deeper and pushed Sabitzer as a 10, we saw an instant change in our play for the better. This is why I'm slightly confused as to why ten Hag is experimenting with what effectively is the same kind of situation. Hopefully his stubbornness doesn't hurt us!

Bruno may be better than Mount in the deeper positions, but Mount is definitely not better than Bruno closer to goal, so you lose Bruno's end product if you play him too deep.
In essence, Mount simply isn't better than Bruno at anything so to blunt Bruno just to accommodate Mount makes no sense to me.
Might as well try it though, since we already spent that 50 million...

Mason Mount needs time, however I’m staggered when I look at what and why we’ve recruited and how the club have indulged ETH so much, he’s now nearly spent £400m and we still look like we need. 4 or 5 first team players.
Mount with 12 months on his contract was never worth £55-60m, we should have walked away and bought clearly the better player James Maddison ( A united Fan) and saved £15m. Antony was ETH biggest mistake, not only is he distinctly average but we had Sancho, Amad and Pellistri, the club could and should have bought B Mbeumo or M Olise for probably £40/50m last year and saved £35m, the club overpaid for Hojlund by £20m and all that together is £70m which could have bought a top class CDM/CM like Amrabat and younger version like R Gravenbirch and still gave us £15m to go buy another CFW like Gift Orban or Marcos Leonardo

This is what I currently feel.
I feel it's too easy to jump on him because he's a new signing and the team as a whole are not performing.
I am, however, starting to think that we have bought in a player that doesn't necessarily fix anything at the club. At the same time, I do think he will be useful and will be (eventually) a good player for the club.
I'm not a fan of him but I thought he was solid in the first half, especially the opening period of the game. By 2nd half though, he was a complete nonfactor. It's inexcusable for a midfielder to be this uninvolved in a game, his number of passes is shocking.
It was more to do with his engine but you're right, I did Batty wrong there.

I would be willing to bet the list of things to be positive about right now and much, much shorter than the list of things to be concerned about.
I remember replies like this in the early Maguire days. . . Half a season in it’ll be because Casemiro’s legs have gone or Bruno is too adventurous, then next year when he’s meh it’ll be something else.
I actually don’t dislike Mount, if he came through our set up I’d love to have a player like him fill out the squad but he will never be a starter in a great United side. That’s no shame but 2 games in or not it’s clear to see he isn’t particularly special, that plus the many years we’ve seen him with Chelsea & England of course.
Every one said it. Mount is a player who goes hiding in games. He is a like a cherry on top of a cake. We are in desperate need of a cake.
He is not a midfielder. I’m shocked that it was so low, I knew he goes missing in games but 14 passes for a player in midfield position is horrible.
If he is the only midfielder we signed this summer, then it’s curtains for EtH by December. And the next manager might not need Mount at all.
